Well I am back again. As you can see above I decided to to purchase the 60* after all. First of all, I received an email back from MD golf and it appears that I originally got it wrong, and it is actually 10 degrees bounce. Secondly I decided it would be more beneficial to have a set of wedges that had a consistent feel and performance (same material, grooves, milled face, shaft & swing weights) rather than worrying about the amount of bounce.

As before, it has a Dynamic Gold R300 shaft and Lamkin Classic half cord grip. I have now changed all three to Golf Pride Victory Anniversary Full Cords, which has made me more comfortable in using them. I always found the Lamkins to feel a little greasy, even when washed.

I spent an hour and a half on the practice ground getting a feel for the 60* and noting distances for various lengths of swing. I am very impressed with its accuracy and control. I found a full shot to go 60 yards and that they all landed at consistent lengths (for each different length of swing) and dispersion was excellent. The 60* also makes the ball check very quickly (even on half swings) and I don’t think I will have any problems if I want to attack the flag.

Again the grooves did really grab and shave the balls that I was using. I did mention this in a further email to MD golf and it was mentioned that this should reduce as the grooves start to wear. Fair enough.

After another 3 weeks of use (since last review) I am glad to have these in the bag. They have given me more confidence and I now know that if I do miss the green (quite often) I have now got a good chance to get up and down. Obviously I will have to keep refining my distances as the weather changes but for £150 for all three I think they are extremely good.

I haven’t yet had the others adjusted as I feel its still a little early to start messing with them. I am not yet sure what their performance is like on dry summer fairways (its raining again in the UK!) and for the moment, laying up to 95, 85 or 60 yards for a full shot still gives me a lot of options from within 100 yards.

I still think value wise they are worthy of 5*. I have decided to keep my overall rating to a 4*, but this again is only due to the extra wear that they impart on the ball. Its just going to be a case of finding the right one, but when you can only buy balls by the dozen, it may take a while.

As a last point I did compare my MD 52 against a Cleveland Bronze 52 and found I couldn’t seem to get a feel for the Cleveland. I guess it also comes down to using and getting used to your equipment.

Customer Service

I have since emailed them a couple of more times and have found them to be quite prompt in reply so maybe I jumped the gun a little. ;-)

I purchased both the 52 (9 bounce) and 56 (14 bounce) from onlinegolf.co.uk and have been very happy with the performance. I have always had a soft spot for beryllium clubs and decided to take a chance as they cost £50 each.

Both wedges are have slightly longer faces normal and are consistent with the size of my Ben Hogan BH-5s. The faces have I believe square grooves and they are milled, ala Titleist Spin milled, but even more so (I actually found it hard to see the milled face on the Titleist). They have Dynamic Gold R300 shafts and Lamkin Classic half cord grips.

I find that on a full wedge shot I carry the 52* 95 yards and the 56* about 85 yards. The spin they generate is very good, checking balls with ease on pitches and getting some check on chipping, even with the 2 piece Maxfli Redmax. I do however find the grooves to shave/scuff the cover of all of the balls I have recently used, but at least with the Redmax this only happens with the wedges. I don’t know if most wedges do this? I have also noticed that the grooves in the Titleist do not look anywhere near as deep?

I am currently thinking of having the 52 bent to 51 (8 bounce) to try and get to 100 yards and thus an even yardage between the 56 (85) and my BH-5 Pw (115). I am also considering having the bounce of the 56 reduced to about 10 as most UK bunkers only have a thin layer of sand. I was also thinking of purchasing the 60* but this has 12 bounce which IMO is too much and I would be better off buying a make/model that would meet my criteria out of the factory.

My only dislike is the Lamkin grips and will be re-gripping them in the very near future.

Customer Service

Only contacted by phone to find out the amount of bounce on each wedge. Like most UK companies, dont expect a quick response to an email.
