Great ball. Had been playing the Precept UTri Tour which in all honesty is a great ball at a great price $26.99/dozen. However, like all golfers, I had to try something else. Bought a sleeve of Hogans and really liked them. Very good distance on tee balls (about 5-7 yds longer than UTri) and ridiculous spin on iron shots. Sometimes too much spin--I wasn't used to spinning a GW back 20 feet. I have read the earlier reviews on the durability issue, but it wasn't an issue. I think they made the correction with the new "non scuff cover" they are now selling. Value is the only issue. They are as expensive as Pro V's. I did just get lucky and got two brand new dozen off Ebay for only $55--now I can handle that. All in all a very good high performance ball that is not only long off the tee but very soft on approach shots.

I found one of these that was already pretty dinged up and started playing it in the middle of a round when nothing was going right. Then I noticed that my short iron shots were sticking and sucking back 10-15 feet, and I NEVER get that kind of spin from Titleists. Distance was fine as well. My next new dozen will be a box of these.

If you've made it this far in the reviews, you should notice two things: 1. The cover is a bit soft and you probably won't get a whole season's worth of play. 2. Good players (80's or lower) really seem to like these, and average to poor players don't. I LOVE them. Distance is fine, I don't know if I hit them farther or if I just simply swung all the way through that time. What I do know is I can shoot for the green from my 4 iron on up and it'll stop. I shaved 8 or 9 strokes per round with this ball.

this ball felt so good off the driver and woods, but lacked feeling on the irons. the durability is very poor, and i got ripped by the shop, but that was my own fault.

After trying just about every ball available,I've finally staying with this one. It is the longest for me and i can spin it the best,it has the softest cover of any so it doesn't make through the round, especially tears with short irons; the strada tour ace is very similar to the hogan.

Model Reviewed: apex tour (non-scruff version)

I have played w/ both versions of this golf ball. Recently I played the non scruff version in my last tournament. I had several problems w/ this ball. 1. mainly the durability problem; it seems i had to switch balls very often as the ball would still scuff. 2. The spin was not as great as say the prov1; simply the ball would not do what i expected it to do w/ a prov1. The positives are that these balls have a good trajectory. Its noticbly piercing and often times my ball doesnt balloon as much. That said my distance was slightly longer about 5-10 yards.

This is the softest ball I have played yet. It is the best ball around the greens. I also shot my best score when using it. HIGHLY RECOMENDED

I may have bought at old batch as I hear thay have fixed the problem but the first ball was shredded with the first wedge shot on the first hole. By about the 4th I really had to change and after chewing up a couple more switched back to a Pro V. Great ball in terms of performance if you can get an endless supply FOC.

Wrote to Ben Hogan U.S. who responded with U.K. Spalding Office. Wrote to them and heard.......absolutely nothing..... obviously they do not care much about their customers.

My top three balls prior to playing a few rounds with the BH apex tour were Pro-V1, Strata tour ultimate, and Wislon staff tour. I certainly have new found love for this new hogan ball which in my opinion is flat out awesome. I played the Pro-V1x for 5 days in a row and the ball is just not for me(I really think this ball should be for the pros only, not to say we amateurs can't play the ball but it is optimized for that quality of game), so I did not include that one in my impressions. Pro-V1 is still my number one, but as far as the rest, the Hogan ball is pretty much "even par" with pro-V1. In fact, I was going to buy a dozen of BH balls and the clerk gave me 2 sleeves for nothing to "try out"(nice guy he is), and that I did. I am taking back a dozen Pro-V1x's today for trade in for a dozen of the Apex tours. The apex tour is straight off the driver, very long on irons, and spins like crazy on the greens which seem to be magnets once the ball lands. These combinations exceed even the tour ultimate's credits. They are a bit pricey as are all high end balls, but if you are going to spend $40 for a dozen of balls it better be pro-V1 or the Apex tour or you are wasting precious cash. In fact, I would rather recommend buying some closeout Tour ultimate's for $20 a dozen which is probably the best deal out there. 5 stars for the Apex Tour however.

Very Impressed! There have been a lot of mixed reviews on this ball so I will give you my take after 3 rounds using this ball. First of all I have been a Srixon Hi-Brid Tour user for about the last year. Nice ball and no complaints. On to the Hogan. I wanted to try a 4 piece construction ball and when I was up at my local shop to purchase the Srixon's I saw a stack of practice Hogans for 25 bucks. I asked the dealer if there is any difference etc etc and he said absolutely not, stating that ususally the name marking is off center or somekind of small cosmetic blemish and thats it. Since I deal with the guy a lot I trusted him and tried a sleeve. By the way, with gentleman who had the post about a driving contest, thankyou for pointing out how insecure and ridiculous it is to suggest that a ball must suck if a 90's shooter has some issues and can't get this ball to go 200 yards farther. If you can't play golf in the first place I guess it must be the ball. The ball must suck! Well, no, you suck. First of all, I don't know what everyone is talking about the cover but these balls held up just fine through 3 rounds. I am not a big hitter by any means but within 100 yards I am deadly and that is why I shoot in the 70's. I drive about 255-260 so for me to sacrifice a great quality ball like this Hogan, for 10 extra yards of distance, is silly. This ball distance wise is the same as all the high end balls out there. BALLS CAN ONLY GO SO FAR WITH USGA RESTRICTIONS! Simply put this is a great all around ball and is very very nice with all facets of 100 yards and in. Consistent, feel, hop & stop etc etc. I am not a big believer in spinning the ball back so I need a ball to hit and stop where I hit them and this balls performs very nice indeed. The other very nice thing is that this ball performs that way with any kind of green you run up against. As far as distance, I found no difference what-so-ever between this ball and the Srixon Hi-Brid Tour that I have been playing or the Pro V's, Maxfli's etc. The ball performs excellent in the wind and it performs excellent with distance consistency with the irons. In a final word I am sold and will continue to play these very beautiful balls.
