Another winner from Callaway. I like the greenside feel a little better than the HX Tour; especially out of sand. I think the distance off the tee is about the same. The company claims the cover is thinner, but I have not noticed any issues with scuffing. Same price as the HX Tour, so you are not out any more (or less) cash. They're a lot of great golf balls on the market, and this one is right up there.

Great golf ball- soft feeling similar to the ProV1 with not quite the same pull back and not as hard as the ProV1x-- cannot believe the distance of this ball. Used these balls for 4 rounds and they held up pretty well, used same ball for 18 holes today. A bit pricey, but the ball I will be playing the rest of the summer....

I’ve played with this ball for two weeks now, and I’ll have to say I’m very pleasantly surprised. I bought one sleeve, then another, and then finally a couple dozen. The ball has excellent trajectory it’s almost as long as the ProV1 but not quite as soft. In other words, exactly want. While I have no technical evidence to support the assertion, to me this ball feels and plays like the perfect hybrid of the two ProV models. It spins more and is softer than the ProV1x, but it's firmer than the ProV1. I, too, have found no unusual problems with scuffing.

Customer Service

At the time of this review, the HX 56 was not yet featured in Callaway's online ball selector. However, if you are using one of those to select your ball you probably shouldn't be playing a premium ball anyway!

GREAT BALL. Looong off the tee and soft around the green. Can spin this ball as much as a Pro V1. I did not have any problem with scuffing like the previous review.

This review is based purely on my experiences with this ball so I am sure that they will deviate from most others. I grew up playing the Tour Balata golf ball from Titleist. I graduated from HS and stopped playing. Five years and 2 surgeries later I picked up the game again. Went to Dick's only to find that my beloved golf ball was no longer produced. I have played all the new golf balls and this is what I have fallen in love with. It spins just a tad less than the balata, so no more spinning balls off the greens attacking front pin positions. The length of this ball is amazing, but more amazing is that amount of feel that is NOT sacrficed. I am so picky about the firmness of my golf ball and I love them soft. This ball performs to all my expectations. I have read about how people don't like that the cover scuffs up. This has never bothered me because I am used to changing balls after 3 or 4 holes. I have used the same ball now for 18 holes and it still flies and rolls true. If you do not like scuffing balls play a 2 piece ball. I do not care about the distance side of golf balls I care about the feel and short game. I do not think that these balls travel as far as the pro v 1's but then again I feel that the pro v 1's are super hard and I can NOT spin them near as well as I can the HX Tour 56. You can spin them back or just make them sit. It is like the ball is reading my mind. While I will continue to search until they bring the Balata back this ball will be at home in my golf bag.

Customer Service

Callaway.com is an EXCELLENT place to recieve information on their entire line of golf balls. There is even a program that asks you questions and will tell you what ball you should play. I love it!

I bought a box of these balls 2 weeks ago and have played 4 rounds with them. I found them to be just a tiny bit softer than the HX Tour and to spin just a bit more. They do FEEL softer off your clubs. They also seem to carry about the same distance as the HX Tour. I found them to be more like the ProV1x and the Bridgestone B330 than they are like the regular ProV1. (Not a bad ball in the bunch.) The few deeper dimples are very noticeable, but I found no difference other than making the ball harder to clean! My overall opinion is that this is a good ball and will work well for a lot of golvers and very well for golfers with high swing speeds. At this product level it all comes down to personal preference and this ball is worth a try.

I really wanted to like this ball. I love the HX tour black and wanted to check out the latest offerings. Essentially, it is Callaways ProV1 equivalent. In many ways I liked the performance better than the ProV1. It didn't spin out of control, performed well in the wind and had good feel. The ball is still hard like the HX tour, but the skin is very very delicate. You can take your fingernail and bunch up the skin very easily which shows you how soft the outer layer is. cant do that with most balls. But the ball as a whole is as hard as the HX tour. I don't think it is any "softer" than the HX tour like the ProV1 is. Which brings me to the bad part. Although I liked the performance, the balls cut up and get chewed after about 3 holes. I used 3 balls for a full round and they all looked like they came out of a meat grinder. If I wasnt so cheap, I would have used more balls. I also am not a heavy spinner of the ball - which tells you how long the ball will last. at 40 bucks a box, I think you could do better. The Hx tour is a better ball for me. Just the right amount of spin, long off the tee and will last MUCH longer the Tour 56. Unless you're sponsored by Callaway or get your balls cheap, I would go with something else like the HX tour, ProV1x or BlackMax, all of which have similar properties.

Tried this ball for 36 holes over the weekend, and while I am not a fan of any ball Callaway has ever made, I was very pleasantly surprised at this ball. The HX tour always felt a little hard to me, and I did not like the performance around the green. I am a die hard ProV1x fan, and I am used to the performance that ball gives me, although I have always wanted a little more check on the less than full shots. The 56 gives me just that, and holds its line very well in the wind. It feels better off the putter by far, and the reaction off the clubface around the greens is superb. I spin the ball way too much, but did not have this problem with the 56. It spun when it was told, but not uncontrollably. I hit a couple pitching wedges from about 130-135 that came back about 8 feet or so. I don't feel this ball is any shorter than the HX tour either. Personally, I feel like the 56, and the new B330s by Bridgestone might be in the running for a replacement to my ProV1x, since the new x came out. I really think Callaway made a performance ball you don't have to be a monster to get the best out of with this one.
