Loved the ball on the full shots. Liked the 56 better on wedges and chips, but this is still a very nice ball. Good feel and sufficient spin, much better than most balls I have played. If you are looking for a lot of spin to stop the ball faster, go with the HX Tour 56.

I have used a Pro V1 and Pro V1x, a HX Tour 56, and a Nike One platinum. Out of all those, the Tour 56 suited me the best. The other balls either spun too much or too little. This ball leaned towards the "spinning to little" category.

I received a sleeve of the HX Tour at a tournament and took 1 ball with me in my pocket. In the middle of my round I decided to use it, and was I surprised. Strait and long with my driver and with the irons is stuck on the green. I had 3 strait birdies and proceeded to get greedy and clear a 300 yd lake. I lost the ball and wish I had brought more with me. Great ball.

In the past 2 weeks I had the chance to play two highly touted balls from two of the most publicized names in golf, Titleist and Callaway. The two balls I tested were the ProV1 and the HX Tour. It is my understanding that these two balls are direct competitors and can be judged against each other with respect to my game.

My thoughts on the HX Tour are this:

Driver and Fairway woods:
Excellent, comes off the club face fast and flies well. Not overly high or low for my swing. Driving distance was a bit farther and usual ball (Wilson Px3).

Long to Mid Irons:
Most shots had the characteristics that I am used to and the ball often landed where I wanted it too.

Short Game (<100yds):
This is where the feel of the ball started to concern me. As lively as it is off the club face, I was less comfortable with these shots. Accuracy and roll after landing were good, but feel for distance wasn't very good.

Putting:
This is where this ball really broke itself in my mind. It was like putting with a ping pong ball. It often jumped off the face of my putter (Bettinardi Milled Aluminum) too fast for good speed control. The ball often rolled much farther than expected. I am a solid 2 putts per hole player and with this ball I was three putting too much because of lack of speed control.

Durability:
After 9 holes, I didn't notice any issues with the cover of the ball. It appears to hold up well.

Overall, I believe this is a good ball. If you enjoy the way it handles on the green then the rest of its characteristics should be good. I for one prefer a bit more control on the putting surface than this ball gave me.

i play either nike one platinum, callaway hx tour and the 56 model, titleist prov1 and the x model and srixon z-urs.in terms of the cover IMHO the cover on the prov1's are much more durable even though i prefer the callaways.the first hole on my course is a short par 4 only 300 yards so its usually a 3 wood off the tee and a small pitch shot but on a brand new callaway a 30yard pitch wit my oil can titleist rips the cover straight away so i am left wit a torn ball for the rest of the round.although in terms of performance hx tour far ahead of pro v1....who knows phil might create a newer improved cover for his callaways :)

I have high swing speed and have always put a lot of spin on the ball with irons. As a result, I tend to tear up balls pretty quickly just by hitting them. I've played ProV1x balls for a couple of years, but I found that the skin of the balls would be peeling off after only 4-5 holes of play. I began playing with the HX Tour after receiving a dozen as part of a tournament. I've found that they go as long if not longer than the ProV1x's, particulary into the wind. They spin almost as much around the green, and they are far more durable in terms of skin wear and peeling. I can play several rounds with one ball, which was almost impossible for me with the ProV1s.

For anyone with high swing speeads (110+mph w/Driver) who is tearing the skin off ProV1s, I recommend these as a great replacement ball with the same performance.

A GREAT ball!!
Just had a match between a Pro V1 and Callway HX Tour to see which ball wanted it most! I rate both balls a 5 and thought it would be interesting to see which would perform best under pressure. The Titleist was +2 for the front 9, and the Callaway was +4 for the back 9.
Titleist - 5 fairways, 5 greens
Callaway - 4 fairways, 4 greens

A great all-around ball. It is as long as any ball yet still spins around the greens. I also found, for me, that the ball had the optimum spin rate with wedges and short irons, which is that it lands and stops dead (or rolls forward or spins back a foot or two). Whereas with the Brigdestone B330s, Hx Tour 56, and Pro V1, i found that I was spinning the ball 10-15 feet back with a wedge and 5-10 feet back with a short iron. It is also a couple of dollars cheeper that the PRO V.

These balls are very similar in performance to the ProV1x balls, I have tried both. However, the HX Tour balls seems to fly straighter off the driver for me. This is about the best ball you can buy. Straight and VERY long off the driver, excellent short game spin and putts great. What more could you ask for? Try the HX Tour 56 as well, it spins around the greens like there's no tomorrow!
