Reviewed by: Fred Exley, Shoot in the 80s, from New York, New York, USA Summary: Until recently, this course was in the top one hundred in the country. It is absolutely immaculate this year, with tees, fairways, and greens all in top condition. The members don't care to advertise, but if they did, this course is certainly capable of hosting a senior PGA event, Nike or buy.com event, or with a little tricking-up of two or three holes, a U.S. Open.
It's a classic U.S. Open-style layout, without the brutal rough. From the tips, it plays long enough for the best, and watch out for the greens; on sunny afternoons, they regularly go over eleven on the stimpmeter. If you're used to putting average public tracks, plan to shoot about eight strokes above normal. The course is very scenic and has a great finishing hole; eighteen is an extremely-long, uphill par-four with a generous fairway and a huge green, that usually has a built-in gallery of diners on the clubhouse terrace, to applaud long putts holed.
