Just got done playing a round with the new Big Bertha II Driver...Love this club...nice boring shot! My old club was the hawkeye pro series 9.5..hit that club nice also...higher ball flight though! tried the new ping Si3 driver..drove it straight but lost distance compared to the Big Bertha II Pro series

Model Reviewed: GBB II 9.5, 60 shaft

I was put out by the price ($640 list- geez - gimme a break) but played with a couple of golfers using it and knowing their games was impressed. I liked my TM 360 but offset combined with my tendency on bad swings to release too quickly and pull/hook was a problem. I demoed and found club was easier to groove than any driver I've hit. Pro 1 degr. open face helps my particular tendencies. Feel of clubhead perfect and helps my tempo, which on this club is really key. Shaft may not be best ever made, but seems better than some reviewers are saying, as long as tempo decent. Reasonably decent swings keeps balls in fairway, as do some awkward ones. Disperion far better than my 360, which now is in closet (and I previously thought I liked club). Distance is great, also better than 360. Ball flight is awesome. My 360 often backed up! This thing penetrates, keeps rising and then rolls depending on fairway conditions. Ball flight makes my heart flutter. Easy to raise or lower trajectory. My center contact is way better, possibly owing to weight/feel of head, resulting tempo improvement and confidence. During demo I hit about 30 balls dead center which is not my normal pattern with a driver. I'm just learning to work the ball with it, too soon to tell on that, but encouraged by other reviewer's comments. I really dislike Callaway's pricing and want to go with alternatives, but now I have 2 ball putter and their driver in my bag and am really happy with both. Oh well.

AWESOME!!! What a great club and the trajectory is absolutely mid to low. No more balloning for Callway. I have the Graffaloy X 3.5 shaft. I have only hit it at the range but what a club!!! Can't wait to hit the Golden Horseshoe next week!!! A must try for any scratch to 7 handicapper!!!

I have always stayed away from Callaway products because I have never hit a club that did not balloon like crazy on me. However, The gentlemen at the pro shop talked me into trying the Pro Series, 8.5 with the strong 60 series shaft. Honestly, I was very impressed immediately. The ball flight was much flatter than my 975J-VS, and the club gave me an additional 10-12 yards easily. I went through the fitting, which I would highly recommend. I decided to purchase a 7.5 with the YS-7 X stiff shaft, not because my swing speed is extremely high (112-115), but because this shaft was recommended in order to keep the ball flight down a bit. Control is easy with this club, the face is 1* open, which makes it great for someone who draws the ball consistently. Normally, I have trouble hitting a cut, but with this driver, it is simple, just swing hard and hold on a little. The ball flight is perfect, and for the first time EVER, my tee shots run after landing. Kudos to Callaway for finally making a club that produces a penetrating flight with consistent control. Like many others, I would encourage staying away from the Callaway shafts. They have several companies making their shafts, so consistency within the label may be an issue. Go through the fitting process and have Callaway make some recommendations, the $35 upgrade for a good shaft is well worth it.

Customer Service

1 week to receive the club from California is pretty darn solid.

I have been using the Taylor 320ti 8.5deg in an s-90 shaft for about 2 year now. The distance off the tee has been very reasonable 270-280 m. However I noticed the that was never any run on the balls whenever it landed, which was quite odd considering we play Sand Belt Links type course down here with very hard fairways and wind being a major influence. I switched to the 8.5 after ballooning the 320ti 9.5 too much. After reading a couple of reviews here and thought I might try the new GBB2. All I can say it I bought it after the first demo session It is definately straighter and the flight it stronger than the Taylor and has a great head feel ie. shaft feels stiffer and a liitle heavier. The way i like it! I have to yet hit a weak high cut with it and because of the head feel I don't over swing it even when I am tried. The distance? Well I am landing the balls about 7-10 yards further but the balls is then running another 10-15 m more. What can I say Its A Great DRIVER!

Customer Service

Callaway has also been great and I never had a problem with them even when I caved two faces of the Warbird and a big bertha a few year ago. They replace the club fairly promptly.

Comparing this to my previous driver is not night and day but, this is definitely a better club. My former club was an Orlimar HipTi 8.5 degree. The shaft was just not as consistant as the GBB II. This club is too easy to get airborne, never have I had this low of a loft on a driver and had very little problems getting very good height and carry on the ball. Hitting as said before, this club just wants to go straight but with the 1 degree open face you can work a fade or snap over and create a hook. The distance off the tee has to be a min 15 yds longer without any change to the swing. Definitely I would recommend this to anyone struggling with the driver.

This is the one you have heard all the talk about. The advertising, telling you its not just another new driver but a New Callaway Big Bertha. Once you hit this driver you will believe all the hype about the number of pro's switching to it and the outrageous claims of increased distance and accuracy. I am sure you've heard people claiming to have tried them all, well let me tell you, I have tried them all and owned most of them. It is easier to list the ones I haven't, so I have no allegiance to any one club maker. Prior to the Big Bertha II my greatest success came with the DogLeg Right Hog XTL a non conforming powerhouse that played as well as any of the big name brands and just felt more solid. I averaged 260, mostly down the middle, with this club and thought, if I couldn't get longer with this one, I would never step up to that next level. I'm glad I didn't give up, and I'm glad Callaway didn't either Because they got it right. The Big Bertha II has increased my average to the 280 yard range, while regularly breaking the 300 mark. Club sets up beautifully and is the most solid feeling of the new batch of mega sized drivers. The real story is forgiveness, not just longer drives but more drives in the fairway. Try it, you'll love it.

Customer Service

I have never had reason to contact Callaway, but I know from my playing partners that they are as good about helping solve a problem or replacing a club as anyone.

best driver i have had to date.very easy to hit very forgiving and very long. i traidid my taylor made xro3 in for this and couldnt be happier with my choice.it is just as long as the xro3 if not a little longer at times but i am hitting a lot more fairways now. excellent product. i went for the stock reg shaft because i just set up normal and i hit a nice high draw most times .the reg shaft fits my swing perfect.

System 60 shaft, Firm flex. Since I am not a consistent driver I can only tell you what it does when I strike the ball correctly. It goes! The sweet spot appears to be higher on club face, so tee it high. Ball flight is medium to high, but it never balloons. It climbs and turns over just fine. When you hit the sweet spot you'll feel the ball contract. Actually it feels like the club face momentarily collapsing then springing (due to its high COR). It is very forgiving. My mis-hits, likely attributable to my swing, are duck hooks and block rights. Played with two guys who both shot high 70s, solid ball strikers, on a par 5 we all took out drivers. They both hit loooong drives. I hit mine, I knew I struck it well, walked to our balls I was surprised mine was 10 yards farther than their longest. I've gotten used to the sound, a "whapaack"! Only complaint, weight distribution makes the clubhead difficult to feel/sense during the swing.

Model Reviewed: GBB II Pro Series 8.5

This is Callaway's best Driver to date, the Pro Series 8.5 is a 380 cc head which Callway hides very well, so you don't get that feeling of a huge head. The profile from the top is the same as my Taylormade R510, which is 330 cc's. There is a good feel for the weight of the head in this Driver. I've found it to be very forgiving and longer (10 to 15 yrds) than both my Titleist 975J-VS and TaylorMade R510, both 8.5 lofts also. The ball trajectory is lower in the Pro Series and produces a good strong meduim ball height. The space specs for the Pro are 1 degree "open" for all lofts, as oppossed to the standard GBB II which is "square" for the 9 and 10 and 1 degree closed for the 11 and 12. The ability to draw or fade the ball is easily accomplished with this Driver. It does not have the "muted" feel of some of the larger head Drivers I've tested. The feel between you and the GBB II is very active. I cannot recommend the stock shaft, I intalled a UST ACCRA 75 (x-flex) and the combo works very well. I had tested both the Callaway VFT offerings (Pro & Standard)and C4 and did not care for either one. The GBB II is at least in my testing, far superior to either of those two offerings. There is also no hallow "tink" sound at impact with the GBB II, it sounds and feels very solid. This is also an atractive Driver with a deep blue head color. I'm not a Titleist, Taylormade or Callaway man, I play what works, and to date, up against all the current driver offerings the GBB II Pro Series is the clear winner for me!
