after hitting with this driver i had to write a review. this club is just plain awsome it is the best smallhead driver i have ever hit with. the sound it produces is just crazy. the performance is very good, most of my solid hits end up 260+ while off shots end up around 220 but still remain perfectly in the center. the control is insane, a fade or draw is relativly easy to do, and centering it in the fairway is just way to easy. one minor thing i had to get used to was the weight of the head. it is a little on the heavy side but i think that aids in its extreme forgiveness. (make sure to search ebay, i found this club sealed in plastic w/ headcover included, for a mere $20)

Model Reviewed: Steelhead III - 10 degree - Graphite

I'm 40 years old - 6 foot, 180 lbs. Take lessons once a week, play twice a week. I bought both the Titanium 454 with Blue Graffaloy shaft (ebay - $180.00) and the Steelhead III (ebay - $50.00). Played 3 rounds with each, took lessons with each, driving range with each. The 454 is a bit too heavy for me and can't quite get around on the ball without having to exaggerate overturning the hands at impact. The III was just plain SICK! I have never driven 250 yards on a consistent basis, but this much lighter model allowed me to pummel the ball. I am now outdriving all the regulars I play with and they are 70's shooters (I'm in the high 80's). I love this club to death. If you're skinny like me, you'll love this club.

Model Reviewed: Steelhead III 9 Degree Uniflex Steel

I have to agree with Gunner. This is a very solid driver. I have used the Titleist 983K and 975J drivers for the past 2 years. Length was no problem for me, but finding the fairway was. I have always liked the smaller, more traditional looking club heads. (I used to use Callaway Warbird woods and loved them) So, I decided to give the Steelhead III driver a shot. With the 220cc head, it looks like a 3 wood and is very confidence-inspiring. I have always had a tendency to hook graphite shafted drivers, so this time I went with the Uniflex steel. Bingo! I am now hitting an average of 10/14 fairways with the steelhead III. I have only lost maybe 5 yards. Definately worth the trade! The sound this driver makes at impact is second to none. You won't hear it from these 460cc drivers. It draws attention from several tee boxes away! I am going to get the matching 3 & 5 woods as well. I love the feel of the Uniflex shaft. I went with the 9 degree, because it has the most loft with a square face. If you go above 9 degree, the face is 1 degree open, remember that. If you are tired of hitting your monster headed driver into the woods all day, leave your ego at home and get one of these babies. At under $100 brand new on eBay, you can't go wrong!!

Customer Service

Never used, but from what I hear, Callaway is second to none.

An incredible driver for the seasoned golfer. Sends the ball a country mile and has a deafening 'ping' at impact. Sharp looks and great looking headcover. Once you get the hang of this club, you'll find it hard to beat. With a smaller persimmons-styled head, I would recommend this to the better player.

Excellent. Answered my emails within a day or two.

Ok heres the deal, I have tried alot of drivers from taylor made to king cobra... after 1 round in which i hit 12 out of 14 fairways dead center, i can say this is by far the best and most forgiving driver i have ever hit... shots have a great sound at impact and while its true it does not quite go as far as some of the big boy drivers, look for about 230 to 250 on a smooth swing... I had 3 other people who know my swing comment on how they thought this was the best club i ever purchased... This club gives extreme confidence at setup, and if you are a slicer ( like me, i play way left to cut it in ) it is alll but eliminated.. like i said i have played 1 round but it really is a great club i would highly advise to get..

I bought this club from Callaway preowned a month ago and could not be happier with it performance. I bought the steel shafted version with 10 degrees of loft.I was using a King Cobra 440 SZ most of last year with good success, but as my overall game improved, the driving for some reason went away. Since I changed to the Steelhead III in March I have lost some distance overall, but I am now always in the fairway. I would estimate I am hitting it around 210, to 230 yards versus 240 to 260 with the King Cobra. But since my goal this year is for improved scoring, control is what I am looking for and the Steelhead has delivered. There is no better sound in my opinion than this club, and I am going to buy another as a back up this week.

Customer Service

Callaway preowned has the best customer service around. I have bought all of my clubs from the (except for the King Cobra) and will not buy from anywhere else.

This is one very reliable club, worth every one of my 19,484 pennies. Okay, so it doesn't have a 400+cc head and it's not made of space age materials. I went from a cheap Wilson driver, which I broke the shaft of twice (Wilson replaced them...I also broke the 3 wood, twice). I felt a steel shaft was in order. The balance of this club is incredible, very easy to control. If it's too hard to hit, then fix your swing, slow it down or something. Sure, I went from hitting 300 yards down to 280, but the accuracy is there, not to mention the control. If you're use to a light-as-a-feather driver, then it will take some time to get use to this. I'm thinking about getting an Ignite, but this will always be my go to driver. The end.

Seeing as I just retired this club I thought I would tell my tale on this driver. I picked it up on Ebay for a steal @ 100 bucks brand new. I like the head size and the firm flex shaft. It felt good when I took it to the range. Took me some time but I got used to it. Compared to my Mizuno Blue Rage this one was more consistant. The Steel Head was much easier to keep straight and sounded nice when I hit the sweet spot. I hit this club for half a season and enjoyed decent success with it but wanted to upgrade my driver. I just picked up its big brother the 2004 Big Bertha Titanium. Looking forward to this season.

good driver for the price (paid 120 bucks for it brand new at Dick's) but the small head makes it tough to hit. when i hit it square in the sweet spot it goes far, straight and the sound it makes is awesome but the problem is it's so hard to hit the sweet spot because it's so small. if your swing's consistent enough to hit a small headed driver in or near the sweet spot every time then i would suggest this club but if you're like me and hit some balls on the heel, some on the outside, and some on the sweet spot then i would suggest something else beacause you will hit some serious hooks and slices when you miss hit this club.
