Cleveland HiBORE Drivers

Cleveland HiBORE Drivers

DESCRIPTION

Through the history of persimmon woods, drivers have always been round. As time progressed and technology advanced, they've grown bigger and are now made of a variety of metals, but for the most part, they've maintained the round shape. Up until now, form has dictated function... The HiBORE™ Driver has changed all that. For the first time, function is dictating form. HiBORE is truly the new shape of distance. The HiBORE is the ultimate high-launch / low-spin driver. Because of its unique crown geometry, the location of the Center of Gravity (CG)* is lower and deeper than ever before. Consequently, it produces drives that go farther and straighter from a larger portion of the clubface than any other driver in existence.

Looks a great club. Excellent sound at impact. I have no problem working the ball as its smaller than normal 460 cc drivers. I'm reviewing it with a stiff Stock shaft. Driving has never been a worry for me (i play off 11 hcp), & our fairways don't get much run (kikuya) so a 230 average drive on our course is a 260 metre drive everywhere else with firm fairways. I always get 10 or more fairways per round minimum, that hasn't decreased with the Hibore.
Unfortunately in terms of distance i'd have to say it isn't the longest of clubs out there. My old Wilson DD5 was longer, & straighter & marginally more stable Due to the increased shaft width & Wilson Technologies. That did surprise me.
Into my third week of competitive rounds with it, i'm not absolutely thrilled with it except for its abilities to let me work the ball both ways ( the wilson didn't have the advantage in this area).
I'd consider a re-shaft soon if my opinion is still the same in a months time or so. My Mizuno F50 3 wood with Aldila NVS shaft is 10-15 metres or so shorter , but is marginally harder to hit.

My first impression of the club was that it looked great at address. I got the regular fitted shaft. First of all I was hitting the ball 250 yards plus down the fairway. But after a few rounds a snap hook kept on coming out of from now where. It's just not the right club for me. Great looking club but it did not work for me.

All I have to say is that this club is very long and forgiving.
Its also accurate.I have tried all the new big clubs and I have to say that the hibore xl is the best. The callaway ft-5 is a close second along with the superquad. If you want to just bomb it, this is the club. If you are that likes to work the ball more then the hibore xl tour is a little better for working the ball although I have no problem turning it left or right with the regular model.I,m not going to say this club is going to give you 20 more yards.which no club does. but it will give you more fairways hit which is what you need to shoot lower scores.got the club brand new for 220 on ebay.best 220 I have ever spent. I reccomend you take whatever driver you are interested in and take to the range or a launch monitor and .compare it to your current driver. If it goes further or straighter on a consistent basis than change it. If not keep the one that works

Background: male,21 years old. 6'3" 190 swing speed=120+mph Handicap=2 Left handed Average drive +/- 290yds. Current stick:Ping G5
So here's my story....
I've been obsessed with this wonderful and always challenging game of golf for 9 years.
I earned an all-conference award in h.s. I still enjoy playing golf both for fun and to compete every so often. That being said.. I'm constantly looking for an advantage whereever I can find it, as are you most likely if you are reading this.I only play what works, having no favorites,I'm interested soley in results.
So I went to a local demo day this past weekend to try all the new 2007 stuff. Mizuno,Titleist,Callaway,Ping,Nike, and Cleveland were all represented.. So I tried the new R7 Quad.,The new Burner,Callaway Ft-I, and the Ping Rapture. The Taylormade Guy didn't even have a X-flex shaft anywhere,so much for being #1 on tour..yea yea b.s. Maybe you could've said that 5 years ago, but i'll tell you, there are more Lefties playing than most realize, and We takin' over baby! Ok, Ok, just kidding. So i'm hitting them, and the R7 Quad is the longest and most forgiving.. The ping Rapture had me thinking "i've hit better" The Ft-I was more "yeah, nice concept, but So what?" Phil still hits only 50%of his fairways. All the while I totally ignore the Cleveland guy. I play 588 wedges but never really thought of them as a major player in the driver cat. So he comes over and literally throws this cool, shiny, metallic weird lookin thing at me and says>"here try this baby out" Then he says,"You were ignoring me and I wondered why" I said I've never hit a cleveland driver. He was the only Rep. who had a Left handed X-stiff shaft flex.. Pretty cool I thought. First ball:>>>>300+ plus carry. I turn around, and he (Scott was his name)is just laughing at me!! So i hit about 75 more balls, and I've never hit the ball so far in my life.I'd say 5-10 yds longer than my G5,but way better launch angle.Perfect comes to mind, actually. Shot making? Who cares? When a dirty old Range rock golf ball flies that far and straight, why mess with a good thing? My best friend just bought the XL Rh 10.5..He literally sucks at golf and life, but he gets very generous results for having such an ugly swing. I've hit the new Titleist's as well.. People, you can think you're cool, hit your draws&fades all day. Let's just say i'm not afraid during men's league when joe wannabe is sportin his Titleist low R&D overpriced garbage. This Cleveland driver kinda reminds me of that Hammer driver.Has anyone else seen that Jack Hamm infomercial with the talking shaft?LOL God that was funny. Jack Hamm didn't have the $$$ like Cleveland does, so I guess he lucks out. After hitting this driver, I can understand why the USGA is worried. Did I mention this driver comes with a sweet Fujikura shaft? Oh, and here comes the clincher......$ 299.99 out the door! As a poor college student,it hurts, but not as bad Compared to +399.99 for everything else on the market.its looks weird, but it delivers what i expect out of driver I'm a believer. Try it, you may be surprised.

I purchased this club a few days ago and have taken it to the range a couple times and so far it is amazing. It is the closest thing to hitting golf ball with a hammer that i have ever felt in a driver. It is a huge jump forward from the origional hibore and the different shaft options are awesome. I am a fairly long hitter with a swing speed of about 120mph and a ball speed of about 175mph and this driver delivers everything i was looking for in a driver.

Unusual at address, closed face promotes a draw. Very easy to hit; I think this would be a slicer's dream. Sound is muted and feedback is below par. Distance is about 10-15 yards less than my Nickent driver.

I thought it would be better than my Launcher 400 but after playing a round of golf, I went back to trade it in for a Ping G5. The face of the club just feels like a rock every time you hit the ball. It feels like you hit the toe every time even at its sweet spot. However, the ball did have a nice launch of the club.

Sorry, but this driver did not feel good to me. I have been using a Cleveland Launcher 460 for about a year and it is the best driver I've ever had thus far.

Thinking that since it was the next model Cleveland, I thought it would be a natural progression for me to move to the Hi-Bore. Well, it wasn't. I just couldn't stand the feel of the club as it hit the ball. It felt like a rock.

Sold it on ebay after only hitting about 10 balls with it.

I am a big fan of the Cleveland Products - let me say that up front. BUT it is only because they perform. The Hibore XL (10.5 loft Stiff Shft with Mid kickpoint) was my selection. Great Club. Tee it a little lower than other big headed drivers or it has a tendancy to balloon up. But when you smooth one WoW its like hitting it with a hammer - Used a 460 Launcher the last 2 years and Loved it - But this Cleveland sounds TOTALLY different. Club is forgiving on off center hits because entire face seems like a sweet spot. I haven't tried it off the deck yet but think it might work because the COG is lower than other big heads..
Solid club, Good purchase - Cleveland rep said they could have rolled it out at $100 more but wanted more people to use it.... Given it's different look I can see their logic.. But I have an idea -grab this club close your eyes and listen and feel.... Then proceed to the check out and buy it.... Very good Value when compared to other High MOI drivers

Customer Service

While all my experience prior to this was very positive - They factory kind of messed my order up - As I said Left handed and the rep at the demo days said if the factory didn't have the components to build my club on hand when the order was phoned in the store should call him and he would build it himself on the trailer at the Orlando Golf show and ship it to me.... Well the factory lied and I had to wait 3 weeks for the club. Golfsmith felt bad and even tho it not their fault they regripped my irons for the inconvenience. Golfsmith has my business and I will give Cleveland one more chance.

Model Reviewed: 2006 HiBore 10.5 UST V2 Stiff Shaft

First of all, my swing speed is 100 MPH and my normal ball flight is either straight or a slight fade. I recently purchased a Cleveland HiBore 9.5 degree driver with the Aldila NV 65s stiff shaft. At the same time, I purchased the same driver with a Fujikura 26.3 Tour Platform shaft. I hit the Aldila shafted driver slightly better than the Fujikura shafted driver. However, neither made a marked difference in my driving as far as distance and dispersion. I normally drive the ball 250-270 yeards. I then purchased a HiBore 10.5 degree driver with the UST V2 stiff shaft and voila! What a difference! I was even talking to myself at the driving range saying, "I can't believe this club". "Does this club know that I'm 62 years old"? Thinking I had just gotten a really good bucket of balls, I brought the previously mentioned HiBore's to the range just to make sure. Same story. I hit the 10.5 degree with the V2 shaft, noticeable longer with tighter dispersion. So, I purchased a 9.5 degree with the UST V2 stiff shaft and it's flight was noticeably lower and I did not get the distance that I did with the 10.5 degree. Convinced I had found the driver I had been looking for, I then bought a backup 10.5 degree driver with the V2 shaft and sold the others. It would have certainly been cheaper to be custom fitted but I really don't have access where I live to a custom fitter with a launch angle machine. Bottom line for me is this. I really love my new driver, even the inverted head is pleasing to my eye. I don't care for 460cc drivers with massive heads. The inverted head design makes the 435cc head look smaller than it is. Now my drives are in the area of 280-300 yards. I actually surprise myself at times with the distance I'm getting. My son, 32 years old, hit the 9.5 degree HiBore with the Aldila NV 65s stiff shaft and loved it. So it's really the loft of the head and the make and flex of shaft that you should be searching for. You can find a custom fitter or do it by trial and error like I did. Bottom line for me? I love my Cleveland HiBore 10.5 degree driver with the UST V2 stiff shaft.
