Cleveland HiBORE Drivers

Cleveland HiBORE Drivers

DESCRIPTION

Through the history of persimmon woods, drivers have always been round. As time progressed and technology advanced, they've grown bigger and are now made of a variety of metals, but for the most part, they've maintained the round shape. Up until now, form has dictated function... The HiBORE™ Driver has changed all that. For the first time, function is dictating form. HiBORE is truly the new shape of distance. The HiBORE is the ultimate high-launch / low-spin driver. Because of its unique crown geometry, the location of the Center of Gravity (CG)* is lower and deeper than ever before. Consequently, it produces drives that go farther and straighter from a larger portion of the clubface than any other driver in existence.

Model Reviewed: 2006 HiBore 10.5 UST V2 Stiff Shaft

First of all, my swing speed is 100 MPH and my normal ball flight is either straight or a slight fade. I recently purchased a Cleveland HiBore 9.5 degree driver with the Aldila NV 65s stiff shaft. At the same time, I purchased the same driver with a Fujikura 26.3 Tour Platform shaft. I hit the Aldila shafted driver slightly better than the Fujikura shafted driver. However, neither made a marked difference in my driving as far as distance and dispersion. I normally drive the ball 250-270 yeards. I then purchased a HiBore 10.5 degree driver with the UST V2 stiff shaft and voila! What a difference! I was even talking to myself at the driving range saying, "I can't believe this club". "Does this club know that I'm 62 years old"? Thinking I had just gotten a really good bucket of balls, I brought the previously mentioned HiBore's to the range just to make sure. Same story. I hit the 10.5 degree with the V2 shaft, noticeable longer with tighter dispersion. So, I purchased a 9.5 degree with the UST V2 stiff shaft and it's flight was noticeably lower and I did not get the distance that I did with the 10.5 degree. Convinced I had found the driver I had been looking for, I then bought a backup 10.5 degree driver with the V2 shaft and sold the others. It would have certainly been cheaper to be custom fitted but I really don't have access where I live to a custom fitter with a launch angle machine. Bottom line for me is this. I really love my new driver, even the inverted head is pleasing to my eye. I don't care for 460cc drivers with massive heads. The inverted head design makes the 435cc head look smaller than it is. Now my drives are in the area of 280-300 yards. I actually surprise myself at times with the distance I'm getting. My son, 32 years old, hit the 9.5 degree HiBore with the Aldila NV 65s stiff shaft and loved it. So it's really the loft of the head and the make and flex of shaft that you should be searching for. You can find a custom fitter or do it by trial and error like I did. Bottom line for me? I love my Cleveland HiBore 10.5 degree driver with the UST V2 stiff shaft.

I purchase this club for a cool $200. It was well worth every penny. This driver is a steal with the newer version coming out this year. It is long and straight. The upgraded shaft is nice as well. After switching from my cobra 460 sz I have seen a marked increase in distance and forgiveness (it is very possible to work the ball as well).
Overall this is a great club and it has prompted me to explore cleveland irons as well warranting a possible switch from my x-18 pro-series.

After reading several reviews, I decided to purchase one. I have the original HiBore Driver and hit it very streight. I am 66 years old and do not hit the ball very long 200-220. My new HiBoreXL has the Fujikura shaft regular Mid to Low tip. With the new HiBore there are a couple of thing you must watch out for, 1. Have a nice tempo through impact, if you try and force it the ball goes absolutly nowere nad it feels like you hit a frozen hockey puck.If you put a nice easy tempo swing on it it goes 10 to 20 yards further than my original. 2. The face has a tendancy to open up on impact, wither it's me or the club I am uncertin, but it happened several times and I had to address the ball with the face just a little closed. I love this driver, it forces you to keep a nice slow tempo and I am hitting it in spots I haven't seen in 20 years. I am still getting accustomed to it. It's well worth the price if you want a little more distance, just be patient.

I went through many reviews before buying this driver.... very usefull.... this driver is actually looooooooooooong, and straight as hell.. it just does not slice or fades for me unlike my Taylormade r580 or my mizuno mx-500... very good feel at the address and just more confidence in every shot... even the duffs and miss-hits go 180+ yards and straight. The shaft, the clubhead, the grip infact everything about it is good... i would recommend it to anyone who is struggling for long drives... go ahead, make everyone jealous....

Model Reviewed: Hi-Bore XL

This model really should have its own section, because it is a whole different animal than the original Hi-bore, which I thought sucks. I have the 10.5 with the 55 gram R flex Fit-on Fuji. I am 50, and the shaft is just a tad to R flex for me, but it just forces me to slow it down a little, which is a good thing... This thing is as long as any driver I have hit, and I have hit most everything. Face seems a bit closed, so the Tour might be better for me, but... I have hit some huge bombs with this. It behaves much like the Comp 460, which was a beast, but a little hard (for me) to control. Much better sound than the original HB, and while the shape takes some getting used to, I like it. Got mine for $249 slightly used, not a great deal but fair. A 85-90% swing is very easy to keep it in play, and still VERY long. Took my Cobra SZ400 out of the bag, and that was a great driver. And it is fun on the open holes with wide fairways to really let it rip, and if you catch it right... Boo-YAH! The Fit on shaft is great for a factory standard. Great stick!

Model Reviewed: Cleveland HiBore XL Tour

I purchased the Hi Bore XL Tour after readhing may posts.

PROFILE: I shoot in the upper 80's to low 90's. I play about 8 rounds a year. 6 ft tall and medium build. Don't know what my swing speed is.

SWING TENDENCY: It appears that my natural (or unnatural) swing is to draw. My mistakes off the tee is generall pull-draw.

DECISION: Based on my swing tendency, I decide to purchase the Tour version because of the 3-degree open face with the stock stiff shaft.

REVIEW: I've been to the driving range 3 times now and overall, I am very pleased with the driver. I was too worried that gong from a 2+ degree closed to 3 degree open would be too much. The first time I hit the range, my ball flight was "push-fade" (started right - I am RH - and then started to fade). I was a bit worried.

However, the 2nd and the 3rd time, I adjusted to the club and focused on making a good swing - stay down, keep the right elbow from flying open, etc. After that, the ball started to go a lot straighter. 3 time at the range, I started to feel very comfortable with teh driver.

COMMENT: A few obersvations I noticed was that 1) it appeared to me that the balls DID NOT stray too far of center, in general. The shot dispersion was a lot tighter
2) You do have to get used to the open face. I got used to it, I noted that my drives were staighter than normal.
3) The impact sound is different. It's definitely a high pitch sound than my Launcher 400.
4) The last time at the driving range, it was very, very windy. The drives seemed to stay truer and straight - thus I am assuming the ball has less spin.

OVERALL: In all, I truly like this driver. despite my playing ability, I like the Tour version as the club face seemed to be a bit more neutral. Not a big offset fan.

If you are interested in a driver that appears to have a much tighter shot dipersion and seems to go farther, then this driver may be for you.

I purchased the new HiBore XL 10.5 degree after reading many reviews from peoplesaying how long this driver is. DON"T BELIEVE THE HYPE! This club is a waste of money. The Launcher 400 is twice the club and you can probably purchase now for $50.00. I lost 10 yards from where I was hitting my Callaway 454. Going back tot hat driver and will not believe anything else about MOI and all that BS.

Model Reviewed: Cleveland Hibore XL 10.5

My previous driver was a Launcher 460. I hit that thing long, average carry of 285, but I knew that with today's technology I could be hitting better. I went to my local golf shop and stepped up on the launch monitor with this thing and couldn't believe the numbers I was getting. My swing speed has always been around 110-115 mph but my ball flight just wasn't right. With this club the monitor was showing an average carry of 298 yards. The higher loft on the club decreased my spin rate while the high kick point in the shaft kept my trajectory low. Fantastic combination. The club face is explosive. My pro v1x catapults through the air off this thing. Not to mention the ball goes dead straight.

The head shape is very easy to get used to. The gunmetal color does a good job of hiding the inverted crown. Cleveland came to their senses this time around and put a sight mark above the sweet spot to help the visual setup. The club feels solid throughout the swing. I know where the club head is at all times, making squaring the club face at impact very easy.

If you are looking for a club to give you amazing distance that hits it straight as an arrow, this is the club for you. However, if you want the ability to work the ball off the drive look elsewhere. I was able to hit slight draws and fades, but definitely did not have the workability of other drivers out there.

The whole point of this driver is to launch the ball scary long and dead straight, and it that without a doubt.

Before you buy, get fitted. It will save you strokes and frustration while giving you the confidence to crush every shot.

Model Reviewed: Cleveland HiBore XL

3 Years ago I went with the Cleveland 460 Launcher Comp with the NV stiff shaft. It's been a great driver for me. Tried the original HiBore when it came out. Hated it, and stayed with my 460 Comp. Tried the HiBore XL. Love it. The Talking to the Cleveland guys I learned that the Stiff Red shaft on my club is the Fujikura Fit-on. It's a great match for the head for my swing 100-102 mph. I am flying the ball 270 on a consistent basis, and almost always in the fairway. The new geometry is a big improvement. Even bad swings for me carry 250. When I hit it on the screws the ball is rolling out the 280-290. On average, my approach shots are now an amazing 1-2 clubs closer than the Launcher Comp. I am getting older, and will be 49 this year, but the HiBore XL is helping me play the best golf of my life, and I've been playing for 40 years.
