Cobra SS380
Like the previous reviewer I had read about the 380 in Golf Magazine and was anxious to try something new as my TM300 was disappointing me and my Callaway VFT was ok but a few of my buddies were sporting the 400+ clubheads and blowing it by me. I had to wait about 2 months to get the club as I'm lefthanded and during that time I was recovering from a herniated disc. So this past weekend wa sthe first test of the 380 and all went well. On a number of occasions I was well past -20 to 30 yards- players who used to outdrive me. The club is accurate and has good feel. Although I like the feedback and feel of my Mizuno Blue Rage more, the 380 is longer. Similar Products Used: Callaway VFT, Taylor Made 580 and 300, Mizuno Blue Rage 310. |

COBRA SS 380CC
Driver is the perfect balance between large forgiving head at 380cc - but not so large as to be cumbersome. Traded out my COBRA 427 for this model - could actually at times feel mild wind resistance when swinging the 427 on windy days. Bought the 380 with the stock stiff Graphite Design shaft - the shaft feels very solid with my 97 - 100 mph swing - not too stiff - solid distance - the best part solid consistency. Usually tend to lean towards the 10* models in drivers - but after reading about this model in CLUBTEST 2003 in Golf Magazine went with the 9*. Reviews there had indicated the club tended to hit a bit higher than one would expect and the lower lofts should be considered. They were dead on - the 9* gave a great boring trajectory - but still plenty of height to get the hang time for distance. Bought at Golfsmith with a 15% discount coupon that they are honoring until June 30 - and picked this up for $255 + tax. Straight to the course - literally the first time I hit it was on the first tee on a Sunday morning. Hit 11 of 14 fairways - distances ranged from about 245 - 285 (off an elevated tee box). The 3 missed fairways - two just in the rough - and only one in the trees where I got to quick and tried to kill it after having about 5 great tee shots in a row. Swing smooth and this thing delivers. Much better control and distance for me than the Callaway 10* Firm GBBII I had demoed the week before - maybe the closed face of the Cobra vs the more square face of the GBB. Not to mention over $100 less!!! Another point to consider - this is constructed with the same plasma welding technique as the new Titleist 983's - no surprise since Titleist and Cobra are in the same corporate family - so the quality of this product from head to premium shaft (Graphite Design) are a big bang for the buck int he world of $400+ drivers. Customer Service no need yet Similar Products Used: Wilson Deep Red - very consistent but a bit disappointing on distance, Cobra 427 -just too large for me to get used to, Callaway GBBII - results for me did not justify price tag |
