MacGregor Mactec NVG Drivers

MacGregor Mactec NVG Drivers

DESCRIPTION

Dual Beta titanium clubhead construction which shifts 7 grams of weight from the crown to the sole. That means lower CG, less spin and more distance. TVC Beta titanium face insert gives high rebound characteristics across the entire face for maximum forgiveness, high launch angle and optimized distance and accuracy. Tungsten weighting system features strategic heel and toe weighting for stability and back weighting to promote draw bias. The exclusive Quadra-Action graphite shaft promotes faster clubhead speed without swinging harder resulting in greater distance and core accuracy.

I've been searching for a driver that would give me some extra distance and help with my slice. My search is now over. This club feels great in my hands and each crack of the club hitting the ball is the sweetest sound in golf. My slice is nearly almost gone and I've gained about 20 yards. The club itself is a work of art to look at and I can't believe how the ball rockets off the face. I wish I had looked at MacGregor sooner.

To my dismay, MacGregor has changed the styling of their 2008 driver to something a bit more tame and boring. I'm glad I was able to pick this beauty up before they made the switch.

I'm surprised MacGregor is not a top seller with the technology and quality that goes into their clubs.

AWESOME!!! There is no need to explain how far and how straight this driver can go with a swing speed of only 85mph. I swing very slow and controlled but still manage to consistently drive a straight 250-270 on my drives. I sometimes whip out a slight fade but it still travels 240 yards on my bad days. The shaft does all the work and so does the 360 cupface.
If you needed a driver that will treat you well...This is it. I used to buy all the Big Name Brands and I keep fooling myself. Now I go with what works this is my fifth driver and I am Keeping it!

Golf Galaxy took care of me here and they were awesome! Golfsmith had the driver at a great deal but the ones they had left were scratched or in the wrong loft/stiffness. So Golf Galaxy Did a price match and added a little off and also had a great selection. I had three drivers to pick from (yeah I'm that guy who even compares the exact same products to still get the best one)

Model Reviewed: Nvg2 10.5

NVG2 10.5 one with stock fujikura quadraflex stiff and one with Macgregor Speeder reg flex...both are 60 gm shafts with similar torque...both play firm.

This club was a very pleasent surprise. I have tried many different sticks including, Cobra speed pro S, Ping G2 10*, G5 9.5* and G10...the NVG2 10.5 was longer and straighter than all by a substancial margin. Club head sets up about a degree closed with face progression (opposite of offset) so the two seem cancel each other out...looks a little strange at first at address...but it's the results that count and the NVG2 10.5 is an over acheiver and confidence bbuilder. Longer and straighter than any driver I have hit and the shaft feels nice too. At demo days, I was hitting mine a good 20 yars farther than the Ping G10 of the same loft with a Prolaunch red stiff shaft. The Ping G10 (standard, not draw version) had a tendency to hook for me...but even the longest balls hit pure were far short of the NVG2 10.5...this club has a very hot face...but it's the club's uncanny ability to turn over and hit straight that I love most

had the NVG2 Tour with 55g NVS S flex... nice stick, but just something missing in control. Too light of a shaft, I guess... Traded for a non tour 10.5 with an S flex V2. I noticed that many of the long drivers at the remax had the V2 shaft, and they can use anything they want... It is a great shaft. That did the trick. Hard not to hit it straight. Ball flight is low for a 10.5*, but that maybe is my swing. Great sound, and VERY long. But the best thing by far is the control, the ease of keeping it in the fairway. Picked up in 8.5/10 on Ebay for $40 plus S/H. A steal. This driver is in the bag, and I have tried most everything. Much better IMO than the TM burner, the G5, the Cleveland Comp, the 9805T and R. Beats all of the r7 and r5 stuff too. Try to get past the tech look on the sole, and the low price tag... it is a straight hitting beast.

Picked this up used at Roger Dunn for thirty bucks. I have been using the Cleveland Launcher Comp which I have been happy with. The NVG though about 20 yards shorter is much more accurate. I occasionally hit hooks with my Cleveland, but no hooks in 5 rounds so far with NVG. Both clubs have reg shafts and 10.5 degrees loft. I hit 12 of 14 fairways yesterday en route to a 78, first time breaking 80 in about 3 years! I hit this club dead straight or with a slight fade for about 240-250 yards. Average is abouut 260-270 with the other club. No idea why, just seems the shaft is a touch firmer than the stock Fujikura. Any ideas?

When I hit it, I can't feel it and it goes long and where I want it. When I mis hit it, I feel it but it still goes where I want it just not as long. My mates can't tell a solid it from a mis hit.

What a club. I finally upgraded to a titanium head after years of playing steel, and although this took about 2 rounds to work out the kinks...I would reccommend this club to anyone. VERY forgiving, and although I still tend to slcie the ball, this is more a product of poor swing mechanics than the club. There is not a club out there that will "guarantee" straight shots if you don't strike the ball well. I have always been a long ball hitter, and once I figured out the right tempo, I am hitting the ball 30-35 yards farther than I ever had before. Great investment (I found mine that was hardly used on Ebay for $60.)

Recently purchased 9 Degree Macgregor NVG2 Tour driver with X-stiff speeder Quadra action shaft and all I can say is WOW. Went to the range to test it out and I could not believe how straight this thing is. I have never had much of a problem with Distance (avg 279-301), but always staying straight was a diffrent story until now. At the range I was intentionally trying to slice and hook by increasing my swing tempo, not staying on line and other little things. This driver would not let me massivly slice the ball outside of the range. All I can say is WOW, I have gained even more confidence off the tee even when I am running late and do not have time to get to the range 1st. Thats the straight and Narrow. P.S. Bought of ebay for only $132.00 instead of $449.00

I had been using the Taylormade Burner 460 which was hitting it a too high for my taste and Global Golf had a used one in "excellent condition" for 125 bucks and I had read good things about it..so I thought, "What the heck!". Well the driver I got was brand new as far as I could tell and didn't have a scratch on it....bonus! All the adds you see for this club mostly show the underside of the club..which looks high tech..too much so for some people, but when you look at it from your swing stance...it looks very traditional. The deep blue head does a great just of making the 460cc head look smaller. The club face is deep..maybe not Cleveland Launcher deep but fairly so. This came with a Fujikura Quadra Action regular flex shaft and was just what the doctor ordered...the Taylormade and Nike drivers I had in the past had "whippy" feeling shafts in the regular flex version and this felt stiffer. The grip is rough...you will not be having this one fly out of your hand!
This puppy is LOOOONNNG! Easily the longest driver I have ever tried. The cup face on this is not a gimmick; when I first took it to the range I was all over the club face and miss hits still got great distance. At least 15 yards longer than my Tayormade Burner 460! The ball flight is penetrating starts of low and climbs steadily...unless you use 4" tees..there will be no moon balls here! Also, in the past I was forced to tee is kind of low because the TM Burner has a shallowish face...but now I can adjust tee hieght to suit course conditions without fear of whiffing under the ball. The sound is super solid..no tin can, aluminum bat, shattering light bulb sound here...I haven't heard a driver sound this good since the days of steel!
Although this is the "Draw" model...it's not magic...until I got my ball position adjusted to suit this driver I hit several bananas...would they have been in play...maybe but it won't cure a chronic slice. Once I moved my ball position up I was knocking 'em right down the middle!!

Listen, You have to check out clubs yourself, but this is the problem, I hit ten golf balls at the range. straight and long as I've ever hit the ball. Then on the eleventh the paint started chipping off the top, then on the twelfth the plastic flew off of the bottom and there are now pieces in the clubhead......not impressed.
