MacGregor Mactec NVG Drivers

DESCRIPTION

Dual Beta titanium clubhead construction which shifts 7 grams of weight from the crown to the sole. That means lower CG, less spin and more distance. TVC Beta titanium face insert gives high rebound characteristics across the entire face for maximum forgiveness, high launch angle and optimized distance and accuracy. Tungsten weighting system features strategic heel and toe weighting for stability and back weighting to promote draw bias. The exclusive Quadra-Action graphite shaft promotes faster clubhead speed without swinging harder resulting in greater distance and core accuracy.

Model Reviewed: Macgregor MacTec Nvg driver

im a left handed 12 handicap 16 year old, who tends to hit the ball between 280 and 300 yards. i found this driver for 169 at a local golf shop, so i figured why not? it came in regular flex, bad idea. turns out on a high speed camera my strength makes the head bend DOWN, and turn the toe out, resulting in a 200 yard long..50 foot high, and 60 yards to the left (lefties slice). i sent it to macgregors wonderful customer service, and got a stiff for just the price to ship it. i'd say it's a taylormade's regular flex...it only cured about 20 yards of the slice, but hit higher. its forgiving, but sounds like an aluminum bat. i'm going back to my taylormade r5 until i can afford to buy a high quality shaft and get it custom fit to me.

Customer Service

excellent, they sent me a headcover at no charge, and only charged me a shipping charge to deliver me a new driver, in stiff flex (it was i believe 7.25)

Model Reviewed: Mactec NVG 10.5*

I was very hesitant to get this golf club because of the quadra shaft. However, I haven't used a club which has wanted to go straight more. I generally tend to play a small fade with a straight ball or a little draw here and there. This club put less side spin on the ball in any direction than any club I've ever used. I hit one of my longest drives with it, as well. Distance is very good. However, if you do not hit the sweet spot you will notice the loss in distance. That is the only thing I really didn't like about the club. Supposedly Mactec's new NVG2 will alleviate that problem. This is a great club and I'd really recommend it. You can get these clubs much cheaper now, too.

Model Reviewed: Mactec nvg 10.5 stiff

I don't write many reviews, but this driver prompts me to do so. I am someone who often struggles with consistent results off the tee.The mactec is the best I've tried or owned and I've hit most of them.I also own the Cleveland Launcher, but the Mac has worked better for me.I never thought I would say that because the Launcher is a great club.
I would normally use a regular flex, but from what I've read the Mac shafts run a bit soft,so I chose the stiff and it seems just right. Most every driver I've hit,I've fought a minor slice and occasional snap hook. With the mactec the hook has disappeared and instead, I tend to hit a staight ball or mild/strong fade. The left side has been taken out of play and so I'm hitting more fairways than ever, by a good margin.
I can go at the ball preety hard and get away with it,but best results come when I keep my swing smooth. The shaft is designed to add swing speed so let it do the work. The ball just flies off the face with a nice, boring ball flight than gets good roll. This club does not produce much spin,so getting enough loft is important unless you are a high ball hitter. It is loud,as everyone says. It feels like no other driver I've tried. It feels like hitting a rock. Distance is excellent as well. Combine the distance with the fact it's very forgiving makes this driver exceptional to me. I never thought I could hit a driver this reliably. They are a bargain on ebay since the new nvg2 is coming out. Technology does make a difference. Thanks Macgregor.

I HAVE BEEN PLAYING THE TAYLORMADE R7 FOR THE PAST 2 YEARS AND IT IS A GREAT DRIVER,BUT I FELT LIKE THE DISTANCE WAS NOT AS GOOD AS IT SHOULD BE. SO DO TO THE FACT I LOVE MACGREGOR EQUIPMENT I FOUND A MACTEC DRIVER AND BOUGHT IT. I HAVE HAD THIS DRIVER FOR THE LAST 6 MONTHS AND FIND IT SUITS MY GAME ALOT BETTER. I HAVE THE 8.5* MACTEC AND IT HAS A 1* OPEN FACE AND FOR ME IT SO EASY TO CONTROL. THIS DRIVER HAS GIVEN ME BACK MY 10-15 EXTRA YARDS AS WELL. I LIKE THE TAYLORMADE R7, BUT THE MACTEC HAS GIVEN ME THAT EXTRA KICK I WAS MISSING FROM THE TEE. I THINK I WILL BE AT SCRATCH BY THE END OF THE 06 SEASON. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR SOME GREAT GOLF EQUIPMENT TRY MACGREGOR AND YOU CAN GET SOME GREAT DEALS ON EBAY.

Model Reviewed: Macgregor Mac Tec NGV-435

I recently put the Mac Tec drive in my bag after months of looking I love it. Bottom line it is giving me add distance (10-20 yards)and so far seems as forgiving as my previous driver, which was a 9.5 TM 580 XD with a UST Proforce stiff shaft. One thing I did learn about this club however was not to assume the specs on the club I had transfered over to the Mac Tec. By using the launch monitor (multiple times) I found that the launch angle on the 9.5 Mac Tec (9-10) was much lower then the then the 9.5 TM 580-XD (13-14). Also the spin rate with the 9.5 Mac Tec was very low (1800-2000) vs the 580-XD (3500-3800). I realized with the Mac Tec I need more loft and went with the 10.5 which gave me a launch angle of 12-13 and a spin rate of 2300-2700. Also the standard stiff shaft in the Mac Tec was still too whippy for my swing and I when up one to the stiff + shaft. I was a little suprised by this since my swing speed isn't overly fast 95-100 mph. I hope this helps and don't be suprised if you need to add a more loft and/or go to a little stiffer shaft to maximize your results, but once dialed in the results are impressive.

Model Reviewed: MacGregor MacTec 9.5* Stiff

Cosmetics are fine with dark blue crown. Club head is not too large. The 9.5 sits square while the 10.5 sits fairly closed as much as 2* it looks to me. I don't know what actual specs are. Many the reviewers are right on when they say it sounds and feels like an aluminum bat. I hit the 9.5 stiff straight but fairly low. I did not feel that the stiff was overly soft. It just didn't have that kick like I've felt in other shafts. The face of the club did not feel very springy either. Overall, I felt it was just another Ho-Hum effort. It might be great for some and not so great for others. It just wasn't right for me.

LONG, forgiving and straight. Incredibly light, all titanium head. Sounds just like an aluminum baseball bat when you don't hit the sweetspot, but when you do get ready, the whole course is gonna know you CRANKED one! I've hit my longest drives yet with this driver, definately longer than the Taylormade R5, although not quite as forgiving. I liked the R5, but my problem with it was ball flight (too high for me) so the wind would stop my drives short. I love this driver, and the fact that I got it for 50 dollars off, and a free Bobby Grace putter. Definately worth it. By the way the Bobby Grace putter (which I thought I was gonna sell) is now in my bag instead of the odyssey two ball putter.

Customer Service

Excellent.

Model Reviewed: Mactec NVG 11.5

This is an interesting driver. I had been playing a TM R580XD 10.5 and I really like that club. Bought this club on a whim because I was curious about the technology and wanted to see if the 11.5 loft helped my drives. I have played 4 rounds with the Mactec NVG and have these observations: The clubhead has a beautiful blue finish, very pleasing to the eye. The sound it makes is unusual..kind of hollow, like an aluminum baseball bat. Regular flex shaft runs soft, which will work if you have a moderate swing speed and smooth tempo. It's a 55 gram shaft so it's pretty light compared to others. Accuracy was good as long as I just let the club do the work. The club face is 1.5 degrees closed for a draw bias. The highlight for me was the Mactec's forgiveness. It has a large sweetspot and the fixed weighting DOES make a difference with off center hits. Distance wise - Many of my drives were 10-15 yards longer than my norm. For high cappers like myself, this club has potential to lower your scores. These retail for $349 but can be found on ebay for less.

I've been on the market for a new driver for several months and tested nearly all of the latest generation of drivers. The MacTec NVG had by far the best combination of distance and forgiveness of any I tried. It is now in my bag. For most drivers, my swing speed is right on the border between stiff and regular, but for this club the stiff shaft was perfect.

Model Reviewed: Mactec Driver; 9.5 Stiff

First of all let me say that most of what has been said before is true. The shaft is definately softer, so after demoing the Stiff flex was better for me than my normal Regular. My swing speed is 88mph. Secondly, the club is longer, but not through any great power surge, but by being so very very straight. Even my off centre strikes went straight and for the most part split the fairway. A beautiful looking club that certainly inspred confidence; I also like the fatc that it is not the biggest size (460 cc) but a more manageable 435cc. Today in my first round I hit 12 fairways outta 14.. a record for me; but as my normal slice'fade wasnt in evidence, the ball travelled 10/15 yards further than normal. A top product that could be what I have been searching for. Perhaps a little pricey at £249, but if it works then its worth it's weight on gold! Finally, I read a review that criticized the build quality..I can only assume that he had a 'rogue' club because mine is without doubt a fine piece of technological genius made to the finest quality.
