For a beginner slowly improving his scores this driver really does work, its massive sweetspot allows the very worst of shots to work well. Its enormous distance takes golf to a hole new level. It is very robust and the grafalloy shaft with its high launch angle is amazing. I went for the 10.5 stiff prolaunch 65 and it just works wonders, I'm hoping that soon i'll be able to drive small par 4's, maybe!

My advice is to get a good club fitter to spend some time with you and this fitter should not necessarily be the person you will buy from. I worked in a national golf chain and did club fittings for hundreds of customers. I've hit every club made and when I traded in my G2 8.5 stiff NV for a 9 stiff NV G5. The ball flight was a little higher even though only a half a degree more in loft which I expected but overall the length of my drives is still there. I'm experimenting with the ProVx to lower the ball flight a tad. I still haven't decided if the G5 is longer but it is definitely more solid. No question it's the best bargain out there and I do rope it on occassion. I play a variety of club brands: Hogan irons, Cleveland wedges and I can hit anything but the Ping G5 driver feels best to me.

I haven't had a Ping product where I've needed customer service.

Super long and forgiving.I was hitting my old hippo about 270 average and now it more like 285-290. I went with the 7.5 aldia nv stiff. Don't be stupid buy this club you will love it.

Very solid club with this shaft. I'm senior golfer hitting a driver about 215 yards in the air. This combo is a little to firm for my clubhead speed. You won't bloon your drives with this setup.

Went from being an average driver to generally the longest and straightest in any group. Takes shots off my game - about 6 - because I rarely have to hit lower than a 9 iron to the green on par 4's - mostly just a wedge.
Lent it to my mate on the range and he did the same thing. If I could putt I'd be shooting mid 70's.
Wouldn't have believed it if someone else told me.

Great club. Had a taylormade r7 460. I am driving the ball at least 30 yards past it. It feels very solid even on off center hits. All my friends have one and told me to get the regular graffloy blue instead of stiff. I have a very fast swing speed and always played a stiff flex. I tried the regular and it works great with a great ball flight. Try both if you buy this club. I would reccomend it.

Model Reviewed: Ping G5 Driver 9* Aldila NV STIFF

I have had this club for six weeks. This stick replaced my Great Big Bertha (1995).What I can say is the G5 schools that old Callaway. I've added 30 yards of carry with this new club, plus more roll. No grooves on the sweet spot of the G5. You still have to put a good swing on it, but so much more forgiving. I suggest getting fitted for the right shaft. I launch this at 12-13* with the Aldila and trajectory is perfect. The Graffaloy will give you a little higher trajectory. I,m getting 275 yards carry on my solid shots, and its 30 degrees outside. This club brings my tee shots to another level. Awesome!

Driving is and has always been my strong suit. I can hit it a mile and at my height and age im always turning heads ( 15 years, 5ft 3in). With this driver i average a 270 drive and i even drove a par 4! but the best thing about this driver is that its so forgiving. When you really try to kill the ball every once in a while you will miss hit the ball and hit it in the strangest places in the face. Even with that in the mix you will still it the ball straight and long. Also if your a slicer there is a offset version of the driver. look at the facts, this driver came out almost a year ago and the price hasnt dropped at all. if you have trouble finding the fairway then give this driver a look.

Very easy driver to hit up in the air. Extremely forgiving as well. Miss-hits fly very well.

Directionally, this driver will sometimes leak to the right resulting in a push. I think the longer than standard shaft may have something to so with this.

Distance-wise, the G5 is good, but not great. The ball seems to have too much spin on it and will quickly drop out of the sky once said ball has reached its apex of flight.

Also, I found the crescent moon on top of the crown somewhat gimmicky.
