Model Reviewed: Ping G5 Driver

I bought Ping G5 driver with 10.5 loft and ping tfc shaft (for $250) at a local ping retailer. This is the first 460cc driver that I own. The clubface is close so it is good for slicers. Feels heavy at the first time but you will get used to it. My only problem that the shaft is longer than average driver, about 46". So I cut it half inch to match my height (5"7). Overall, it's an OK driver with high launch slighty fade ball flight.

Model Reviewed: Ping G5 Drivers and Irons

I have always been a loyal user of Ping Eye2 and Callaway Drivers, and normally shoot in 90. When I decided to upgrade my set, I tried many clubs (TaylorMade R7, Callaway Fusion) before finally decided to get a complete set of Ping G5 with regular flex. The result: the first time in my life I consistenly play BELOW 80!!! My 6 Iron that normally only give me 140yards now go way up to 180yards (I am a not-so-tall ASIAN male), and my driver just got super far. In the last play, I drove consistently 270, 310 and finally 325yards!!! (Official measured by committee). This is really one of the BEST decision I have ever made in golf.
Note: I've got comments from my caddies and my friend (who is using I3) that G5 Irons are a bit heavy to their standard, but to me it's just perfect!

Customer Service

The owner of PING Distributor in Manila, Philippines is very supportive. But I have a very bad experience with the workers in PING GOLF CITY ORTIGAS.
Very unprofessional, and this is an experience upon BUYING. Not even aftersales.

I have used the G5 for a full season and am still very satisfied with the performance. Long and forgiving. I tried the new Titleist, some Taylormade models and one of the Mizunos and the G5 was clearly the best. I was getting carry yardage of about 250 with the other clubs and a little over 260 with the G5. Ball speed was around 155 with the others compared to 162 with the Ping so I knew it was not just a matter of having the right shaft. I went with the 12 degree to get my lauch up combined with the Aldila NV stiff shaft. The G5 is probably best suited to those who need to increase their carry yardage and lauch angle. Prior to the G5 I was carrying it about 230 with about 40 yards of roll, now its more like 260 yards of carry with 20 yards of roll.

played the g5 and the g2 and about every other driver you can name. This is the best for me. I put a lot or spin on the driver that cost me yards. This driver takes some of the spin off. I get extra yardage around 15 to 25 I think because of the roll. I hit wedge into a hole I used to hit 7 iron into. Have about 50 rounds on it now and its great.

Model Reviewed: ping g5 driver 9' aldila nv 65 s

Not going to talk distances with this guy just yet, more about getting fitted and the difference it makes. Read the reviews and thought it seemed a good driver, went to the ping website, put in my details and it recomended the g5 9' stiff shaft, either the prolaunch or the aldila. With this info went to my local golf store yesterday and shot some balls on the monitor. Its a great, sweet club, but, heres the rub...I hit at around 100mph...shot a dozen balls with the aldila shaft, followed by a dozen with the prolaunch shaft, both stiff...the aldila averaged over 20yds extra carry than the prolaunch, so obviously went with the aldila as it suited my swing etc. Chatting to the pro there, he said that most golfers think its the club thats important( I certainly did), but the reality is, with the wrong shaft, there can be a huge difference, bear this in mind when you buy--get fitted properly......as for distances, went to the range this morning, found it to be a lovelly club, the balls were dropping at around the 240 - 260yd points(no roll as long, range grass) on sweet swings and 200 - 220yds on miss hits. Havent been on the course yet, but am hoping to be presently surprised. I also have the 3 wood in stiff with the prolaunch shaft(didnt try others) which has been v succesful for me. all in all, a good solid club, sound at impact is more of a thwack than the usual crash bang whallop of other big clubs.

Model Reviewed: G5 Driver Regular flex

The last six years I have been playing the Taylor Made Ti Bubble 2 Driver or the original Callaway Big Bertha (which was my late dad's favorite club). I recently bought a pre-owned set of Ping i3O irons (Blue Dot) and wanted to upgrade my driver.

I was shooting in the mid 90's and usually fading or slicing my drives. I bought the G5 offset and this club is the real deal.

Even my mis-hits are catching the fairway. I'm gettting 20 more yards off the tee (I'm getting about 250 when I hit it pure) and this club is the easiest driver I have ever hit. My last three rounds have been in the 80's and my best was an 83...this from a guy who was usually scoring 95+.

The G5 takes a little bit of getting used to, and the sound is not what you expect...somewhat of a dull rap. However, the ball springs off the face and if you tend to push/fade or slice, this club is VERY forgiving.

Make sure you hit it at your local pro shop, then spend about 30-40 minutes with it at the range. Once you get used to the feel you'll never take this out of your bag. My local pro shop wanted $300 plus tax and negotiated a little...but I found this club brand spanking new on ebay and walked away with a legit (serial number is Ping certified) club for $180...

If you struggle off the tee this club will help. But, as we all know...keep practicing and the rest will take care of itself.

I give this club a 5 star rating!

Customer Service

The Ping web site is excellent. Take the on-line measurement test on the site then verify it at your pro shop. Also, any questions regarding Ping clubs are answered by Ping HQ within 24 hours. Excellent support...I should have bought Ping's 10 years ago!

Model Reviewed: PING RAPTURE 460cc Aldila NVS Regular

My first try with the Ping Rapture was during our club championships. I was warming up when a friend of mind who just bought one came to me and asked if I want to try it out. So I did. The first thing I noticed is the easiness of the swing and the muted crack from hitting the ball. The sound resembles that of a persimmon in the olden days, its more of a "thwack" than the metallic sound of today's drivers. The head looks closed at address which is preferred by most players these days. The driver is easy to set up and control is good thanks to the Aldila NVS Regular that seem to match my swing speed.
CONS: Although the Rapture is a great driver and easy to control, it does not go any farther than my Mizuno MP-001 driver. I played a 9 holes with it today with the same friend and hitting two balls - one with my Mizuno and one with the Rapture. I am a pretty consistent hitter so my balls have the tendency to be in the same general area. My experience at the driving range was validated today. My Mizuno is just about even in distance with the Rapture, and the control is about the same. The verdict? - there is not enough reason for me to switch. And I have to keep my $499.00!

Just bought a G5 driver 2 weeks ago, I cannot belive how straight and how far I can hit it, I have a set of Wilson woods, I could not hit the driver for love or money, it was always left in my garage, used my 3 wood instead, had a loan of a G5 over one weekend, could not believe how well I hit it from the first drive, hit 14 fairways out of 15, and long as well, it has made a massive differfence to my game......most of my friends who play golf with me are now wanting to purchase the same club, maybe I should ask for discount of the golf pro at my golf club ........the club is that good

This is the best driver I've owned, by far. Long and straight - it feels like I'm cheating with this club. I also own the most recent offerings from Callaway and Cleveland, but the G5 puts them to shame in every possible way. Not only is it more accurate, it also doesn't make the obnoxious "aluminum baseball bat" sound the others do - just a nice crisp "thwack." I highly recommend this club to those who want to hit the ball far and find it.

I played this club for 6 months, gave it the old college try. It is not a bad club, it is actually a very good club, but not the best. The reviewer that said it hits the ball high is on target. Even at 9.5 the ball flight is too high. But the dispersion is fairly good. If you slice this will help but if you put a real bad swing on it, it will go right. Those reviwers who said it was shorter than others drivers are also right. It does go long, but you have to hit it on the screws; my more typical drives were in the average range. Again, not a bad driver, but there are better out there.
