Model Reviewed: Ping I3 Driver

I recently purchased a Ping I3 Driver of a certain online auction site for £40. Whilst the head was in fantastic condition with one chip to the rear and no face marks the shaft and grip to my dismay were unuseable when it arrived. Fortunately i live within a mile of the Ping factory and i had it reshafted with the PING TFC 100D Stiff and 703 grip. Upon the first round of golf i noticed an immeadiate change the ball flight was much straighter ot has enabled me to accurately drive just past the 300+ yard mark on a few occasions. But not only that a controlable draw is now available in my shot arsenal.

Customer Service

The customer service was fantastic as i had the club in and reshafted ready for use in two days.

Model Reviewed: Ping i3 Stainless 9 degree

Been using driving irons off the tee the last year since I started playing again and once I felt comfortable I decided to buy a driver. After going to some shops and swinging and reading on drivers for mid-high handicappers I decided on the i3 stainless. Bought it new on Ebay for $50 and it was great deal at that price. I pushed it right the first two rounds I played with it but now that I'm swinging it better it hits down the middle in the short stuff. All it takes is a nice relaxed swing and it will go where you tell it. Distance is good, I'm 33 and I hit it just as far as the guys in my foursome (45, 52, 55) who use titanium clubs. One of them even uses an Adams GT 360cc and this Ping i3 holds it's own. I like the 198cc head size, the super size ones feel awkward to me and you can actually hit this driver off the turf with the right lie. That certainly helps on those 600 yd. par 5's. The controllability of this club and usefulness on the turf allowed me to ditch a 3 wood and add a wedge to my bag which I love having. At anything under a $100 this is a steal and even if you use the big drivers this makes a safe alternative on tight courses. I decided on the 9 degree loft because the one part of my game I've never had problems with is getting the ball in the air, this driver has a nice penetrating flight path with no ballooning which I see my partners do sometimes with those 10.5 and 11 degree clubs.

Customer Service

Good, I registered the S/N with Ping on their website in case I ever need service.

Got this Ping i3 as part of a set of Ping i3 fairway woods. Couldn' hit this club much at first. Improved my swing somewhat and went to a stiff JZ shaft. Big improvement overall. I have this driver with 9* of loft and probably should be using 11* instead. I also think the RSS set up is probably not the best for me. I should have a RUS set up instead. So get fitted for this if you can and I think you'll be very happy with the results. I like this driver and will be looking to improve my drives with time. I usually hit this around 250 and now rarely not hit the fairway. Very controllable club and forgiving overall. I would definitely recommend this club.

This is a very short hitting driver. I lost 15 yards off the tee and gained just a little accuracy. I got the 12 degree loft model with a steel shaft and regret it. The club seems too heavy for its short length. A graphite shaft would probably help. It's a 3 wood impersonating a driver.

This club is the best!!! --I am most impressed by mis-hits. I tend to get quick and snap hook the ball but this club compensates for those mis-hits like none other!! It has also added 20 yards to my drive. Make sure you swing smooth and slow to put it on the sweet spot. It will take all your lunch money to buy it but it is worth it.

Model Reviewed: Ping i3, 9*,stiff flex shaft

Being a 15 year old at the time, i didn't have a lot of money to buy a more expensive club, so i decided on the Ping i3. I never looked into how big it was at the time (thinking it would be around 300cc) and got a big surprise to find out that it was only 198cc. Never the less i loved the feel, sound and playability of this club. I can honestly say that this club helped me go from a low eighties player to a mid-high seventies golfer in a few months due to the accuracy. The bad thing is that you wont be getting huge distance with the club because it is like an oversized 3 wood and made of steel. But i've always been a fairly long driver for my age hitting many balls on the driving range and the course well over 300 yards and so on. I really think that if you don't get the accurracy off the tee that you think you should, then maybe you should think about the i3 because it really helped me keep it in the fairway in those presure situations in tourneys and important rounds.

Model Reviewed: Ping i3 Driver (11*, RSD hosel)

I've been frustrated at my inability to swing smooth with my "grapfruit" driver (TM360) and yet I've hit my Ping i3 3-wood so smooth, so I decided to pickup the i3 Driver. Great price on eBay and the club fits my swing (only 44" shaft which suits me well). It took a day at the range to get used to it but now I'm maybe only 10-15 yds shorter on "best" hits but MUCH more accurate... I'd take 250 yds in the fairway rather than 265 in the woods! Not bad considering this club is 2" shorter so its much easier to control. Broke my P.R. of 7 over, then the following week 6 over at my favorite course using this driver. Don't get me wrong I still mis*it it when I rush, but if I swing smooth and pretend its a 3 wood this baby works great! My driver swingspeed is 93 MPH and the Ping 350 graphite regular flex with the RSD hosel (Right handed/Standard lie angle/Draw enhanced) allows me to actually play a slight draw.

Customer Service

I've had to use Ping to reshaft a fairway wood. One drawback is with their special hosels you have to send the whole club back to the factory (instead of your neighborhood club shop). Took me 2 wks turnaround time and slightly inflated costs for service ($95 bucks to switch graphite to rifle shaft plus a new grip on my 7-wood)
