Ping Ti SI Drivers

Ping Ti SI Drivers

DESCRIPTION

From Ping: At 323cc the TiSI is the largest, totally custom-fit titanium driver available today. More importantly (for most golfers), it's also one of the longest-hitting drivers on the market.

By far, the longest, best big stick I've ever hit and I've hit em all. I have a 7-degree RSS with a 47-inch 350 Aldila stiff shaft. I'm a short hitter with most drivers -- maybe 210 yards at best -- but I gained 30 yards with the PING and keep it in the fairway for the most part. Hit one 250 the other day and I've rarely done that. All praise to the Son of Solheim.

I'm going to sit here and tell you how great or how bad the driver is. I figure it's mostly about my swing.

I got the driver after hitting a friend's about 290 after hitting my warbird arounf 250. Blew my mind so I got one.

First day was great. Then all downhill. I had a fade before but with this driver you could only call it a shank. A solidly hit ball would sometimes go just as right as it did far. But instead of cussing the driver, I decided to change everything.

I fixed my swing learning how to really release (the release is the magic juice... not any club). A 30$ lesson, the golf channel and about 2500 range balls later everything clicked.

I went from a 18 handicap all the way down to 7 in 5 months. I drive 280 to 300 everytime. The longest this week was 340.

Gotta go work on the wedges now.

Model Reviewed: TI SI 11.5*

It's all about proper fitting. I bought my first TI SI at a retail store and was improperly fitted. I couldn't hit the 10* RUD with the UST ProForce 65-S shaft. Even though my swing speed is around 100 mph I hit the ball low and the high kickpoint of the UST wouldn't work for me. I went to a demo day and was refitted with the 11.5 RUD Aldilia 350-S shaft and it works beautilfully. I've been told that shaft has to high torque but it's mid-low kickpoint is great for a low ball hitter like me. I lost some money in the deal but the outcome has been worth it. Custom fitting is great providing the person doing the fitting knows what they're doing. Do not get fitted with a simulator, hit it on the range at a demo day staffed by PING.

Overall if not the best driver on the market, pretty damn close. I have the 8.5 RUD model with a Proforce 75 shaft. This club is very forgiving and pleasantly long. Best driver I've ever put my hands on. With the stiff Proforce shaft, I absoutely beat the club. It seems on mishits you hit it almost as far as solid hits. If you do hit it solid, it feels great and is like music to the ears. The club is a great club for anyone. But, get the right type of shaft and other junk (lie angle, loft, etc.) If you can't hit this driver well, you're a hack.

I have the 10* RDS model and it had the stock 350 shaft, which was to whippy and caused Texas League pop-ups. With the True Temper Bi-Matrx (not Matrix)regular flex shaft installed, the trajectory is excellent. I have a smooth slow swing and I'm averaging about 260 yards. If I try to overswing this monster, it does not work. Slow take away and smooth follow through work great. I'm enjoying hitting short irons and wedges into greens lately and my scores have improved. I shot my career best 87 today thanks to great driving, good wedges, and pretty good putting. Demo this driver if you can with this shaft and you will love it, unless you swing like a baboon on steroids.

I've had this club for almost a year, and I am not even contemplating replacing it. It is very long, and super forgiving.
People with a slice need to fix it themselves, and blaming it on this driver will not help. If you come down the line, this club will produce a nice little fade. I recomend this club completely.

This is a repeat review. I had to submit because I took the 975J out for 18 holes and thought that I was going to buy the Titleist until I compared it with the Ping driver. TiSi is MUCH more forgiving first of all. If you don't shoot in the low 80's and don't hit the sweet spot on your driver at least 80% of the time, don't even think about the Titleist. Sure you see them on tour but those guys can hit any driver on the screws and they are given the clubs with specs they want, not so for you and I. Of course the best feeling in golf is nothingness at impact, but all those other times their is a solid crisp feeling at impact with the TiSi, the 975J it felt muted or dull even when I hit it 300yds., did it twice in my round, I have also done that with the Ping to be fair. So for the money, disregard Titleist advertising and get a driver that feels, performs, and can be set up better for you.

Bought the 10* Std lie, straight ball flight and have been playing it for about a year now. Ping offers custom fitting for this and all its clubs. If I had to do it over again I would have paid more at a retail store to be fitted. The head is huge (323 cc), I call it the Big Mac on a stick. To get the best results from the deep face you need extra long tees to tee the ball up higher. Good strikes sound like a dull "donk" as opposed to the higher pitched "ping" you maybe accustomed to if you play clubs like Callaway Hawkeyes. The big head is somewhat misleading because the club is suprisingly light in your hands. With the size of the head it's almost impossible to miss the sweet spot. Smooth, even tempo'ed swings are rewarded with soaring ball flight. Distance is excellent, and even on mishits distance is acceptable. I have problems fighting a slice with this club, but I think it's because my 3 and 5 woods are Hawkeye's which have a draw bias, and the TiSI has the straight ball flight hosel meaning my 3 wood swing is not going to work with my driver and vice versa (hence my regret not getting fitted). The black paint chips easily (fix with black nail polish!). I highly recommend demo'ing this club at your local Ping fitter.
