This is a very over rated driver, I owned 2 of them the 7.5*, and the 8.5* after the novelty was gone of changing the weights. I sold those and went back to the R510 TP. IMHO the best driver that Taylormade ever made. Save your money and invest in lessons, not gymicks. if the R7TP was in the $300.00 range then it might be worth it, but the R5 TP just feel more solid.

Model Reviewed: Taylor Made R7 TP Mitsubishi Rayon

I previously used the Titleist 983K and was very happy with it. Distance was great and the accuracy was also good. After hitting the original R7 I wasnt very impressed, when the TP version came out I was eager to demo it. From the first swing I could feel the difference. The Mitsubishi Rayon shaft offered penetrating ball flight, and it was very straight. The clubhead sat so much better than the original and everything I didn't like about the normal R7 was better in the TP. The new weight combinations are good, but not a neccesity, once you find your preferred trajectory and weight, you will never change it. In terms of distance, it goes about the same length as my 983K, but the high penetrating ball flight and the great feeling of the club face is what sets it apart. Overall, just a professional club, If you have a consistant swing and know what you are doing, you will live this club.

Customer Service

After ordering it, delivery was about 5 business days. Not too bad.

I switched from the 510 TP and am happy with the change. The new R-7 Quad TP has a much harder feel than the old 510 TP. I thought it would be cool to have all of the weight options but after the intial testing at the Range the weights haven't moved. Hi-Neutral. So much for the novelty of the weights. Maybe I can get $100 bucks for them on ebay. I think the club is definitely a bit gimmicky but it is always kinda neat to have the latest and greatest. Honestly this club isn't measureably better than last years TP. It feels much harder but feel is a personal preference. One thing that bothers me about TM is the fact that withing 3 months of buying something you can pretty much guarantee that it will be out-dated.

WOW, Holy golf gods....I am now htting at least 20yds further and much more accurate than before. I drove a 302 yrd par 4 for an eagle and play off Hcp28, so it is definitely a game improver. Taylormade have developed a great product which can help to straighten out that slght swing flaw you might have. It has mine. Great stuff!!

Great club! Long and straight. Very forgiving on any sort of miss hits. I have increased my distance by an average of 15 yards. I did how ever change from 8.5 degree Titleist 983K to this one at a 10.5 degree. I couldn't be happier with the high ball flight. I have not tried the other weights yet and don't feel I need to...yet.

Customer Service

Bought off of ebay. DON'T PAY RETAIL!!! Go to ebay and you can pick one up relatively cheap. I bought mine for $550 new.

This drivers is the best driver on tour, you cant beat it. It works, it charms and its sweet. I love it i play of 9 and I know what im talking about i am only 12 years old. It actually works it wont just give you a draw, fade, straight or low high and medium you have to put the right steady swing on it. Thanks for reading

I previously played the R510 TP 9.5 757 Stiff. I was skeptical, but I the R7 TP 8.5 in Speeder X Flex. I needed a stiffer shaft for control. I was concerned I might lose distance, but the opposite has been true. I have gained at least 10 yards by this new driver setup. I have increased my driving distance to averaging 295 with this club. It is awesome!! I see a noticeable difference in distance and control. This driver makes me feel like I am cheating it is sooo long and straight. Highly recommeded. You have to have a consistent swing to notice the advantage of this club. The bad reviews I believe are due to people thinking this is a magic club to cure their imperfect swing.

I've been using a TaylorMade R510 Tour Issue TP Prototype with the Speeder 757 R flex (my swing speed is 95 mph; fast tempo)that has a slight fade bias and decided to try the r7 TP with the same shaft setup. After experimenting with the weights, I settled on a draw bias with medium trajectory. I can now consistently draw the ball and gain an extra 5-10 yards. Even with the draw bias, I can open my stance and still produce a fade when needed. The club face is not as solid as the R510 Tour, but I am happier with the ball flight. The sound is also slightly higher pitched which doesn't bother me, but may have a positive/negative effect on other golfers. I've tried a lot of drivers over the past three years and this is the best by a slight margin over the R510 Tour Issue. The cost is pretty high, so I cannot give a 5 star for Value.

Previously played the 580XD and 983K, both with Fujikura shafts. 110-115 driver swingspeed. Bought the 9.5 TP on July 1st. Tremendous club with the Fujikura Speeder 757 Stiff shaft. The R7 TP face is much hotter than either the 580XD or the 983K. Also, it seems slightly hotter than the TM R510TP driver. For many golfers, particularly slicers, the R7 TP will not be as forgiving as the 580/540XD drivers. However, for those with a faster swing that can handle a square faced driver, the R7 TP is very straight and very boring. I'm now averaging about 275-280 and getting a max of 355 with this driver when swinging full out and making dead center contact. That is a 12 yard increase in average distance and a 23 yard increase in max distance. Fairways in regulation has improved to about 80%. The 757 stiff shaft seems to demand a swing with a smooth transition at the top and a gradual acceleration to a fairly high swingspeed. The weights really work and the accompanying ability to precisely modify the swingweight is a real bonus. Placed back in the stance and gripped down the club hits a low, mean and boring stinger shot that runs and runs under a headwind.
