TaylorMade R5 Dual D Drivers

TaylorMade R5 Dual D Drivers

DESCRIPTION

The r5 dual features widely spaced, dual TaylorMade Launch control (TLC) cartridges that are pre-configured and permanent. This positions the weight ideally so you don't have to. With Launch Control promoting an extremely high MOI (moment of inertia) and proper clubhead rotation, the r5 dual Type N delivers remarkable forgivness and a straight ball flight while the r5 dual Type D provides a draw. Meanwhile, the exceptionally large 450cc titanium clubhead not only looks substantial at address, but it also gives you solid contact, consistently straighter shots and of course, confidence. And with TaylorMade's revolutionary inverted Cone Technology, the expanded COR of the r5 results in higher ball velocity on off center hits for longer, more consistent drives.

First off I'll say this probably isn't the driver for you if you already hit a draw.

I ALWAYS hit anything from a 5 yard draw - 40 yard snap hook.

I took this driver out for a round before buying it from a guy at my club. I was SOMEHOW hitting these nice little 250 yard cuts down the center every time.

At the end of the round I bought it for --$100--! ALMOST BRAND NEW.

After playing it for about 2.5 months I might be looking for a new driver pretty soon. I just draw/hook it to much.

It is an EXTREAMLY FORGIVEING driver though.

the 10.5 seems to go a little higher than others I have tried to.

I have the stock stiff shaft in it.

This driver fell into my hands accidentally when a low bid on ebay won. After trying draw bias drivers before, with no joy at all,i took this one to the range to hit a few balls. To say i was surprised is an understatement, having struggled with a fade (slice) all my golfing life(35 years)this club consistently hits the ball from 6 to 15 yards left of my Cleveland Launcher ti.albeit a little shorter (5 to 10 yards). On course i am hitting nearly every fairway,i even get compliments from my playing partners on how accurate i am off the tee.If you're looking for a driver to help your game, don't despair,i had given up and was resigned to living with a slice until i tried this club.In all an awesome product, congratulations Taylormade.

Model Reviewed: Callaway BB 04 w/ Grafalloy Shaft

I think the correct shaft is the engine of your driver. I had a Callaway BB 2004 driver with stock R-flex shaft which I could hit 50-60% in the fairway. I had it reshafted with a Grafalloy Prolaunch Blue R-flex shaft. The first thing that I noticed was that even though both are R-flex, but the Grafalloy ProLaunch blue appeared to be a touch stiffer. Now I can drive 80-90% in the fairways, Not only that, the ball dispersion is much much better. I believe the low torque 3.0 shaft of Grafalloy ProLaunch Blue has a lot to do with it. Since I am confident that I could put the ball in the fairways most of the time, I now swing harder than before resulting in 15-20 yds longer. So, I give a lot of credit to the Grafalloy ProLaunch Blue shaft... My recommendation is that if you have problem slicing your balls, please consider upgrade your shaft. Now my BB 3-wood, 18-degree and 21-degree hybrids all have the Grafalloy ProLaunch Blue shafts and my golf game is much more enjoyable

Customer Service

Don't know about other brands but Callaway is A+++++++++, I will continue buying Callaway products because of its excellent customer service

Model Reviewed: R5 Draw 9.5*

I recently picked up an R5 draw version driver with prolaunch blue stiff shaft. I don't know if it is the driver or the shaft or both combined that are making the difference but I have added at least 15 yards consistantly to my drives with this driver. I've tried just about every new driver/shaft combo that comes along and I've really not found any one that is consistantly longer than the others by much until now. I haven't tried the same driver with other shafts so I'm hesitant to give all the credit to the driver as it may be that I've just found the sheft that matches my swing perfectly, but whatever it is I'm excited to have added that much distance with just changing clubs.

This is the only driver I have ever been able to hit. I have tried Callaway and Ping, and just can't hit them. I used too tee off with a three wood, but now I hit driver on holes I probably shouldn't, but I hit the R5 Draw bias better than the other clubs in my bag. Don't get me wrong, I have tried to replace this club since I bought it last year, but I cant find one I can hit as good. I recently tried the R7 460 and the Callaway X460. I want a callaway so bad, but it is not the club for me. Now I am thinking I'll reshaft the R5 from the stock reg. flex TM MAS 55 to some new hot shaft, but what if that experience does not work? Just out more money.

WOW!!! I'm only a golfer in the 90s. My problem is distance, and my old driver was so unreliable I stuck to the 3 wood.

After playing with a mate who had an R5, I ask to borrow it. First 5 shots where long and straight. (250+)

I bought one straight away and it has taken 5+ shots off my rounds. More importantly, this thing is SO forgiving. Anything goes straight, and anything in the sweet spot just goes that bit further and higher.

The best part, using a PW on Par 4s on my second shot. Now I need to start saving for some Taylormade R7 CGB MAX Irons.

Customer Service

I bought off eBay, when a club is this good, why do you need customer service.

Not playing a great deal and still struggling with a power fade (read slice), and on the recommendation of another power fader I got a R5D. First, let me say the club feels great and inspires confidence at address. I first played it with the stock Taylormade MAS shaft, Regular flex, 45 inches. However, after violently hooking too many balls, I changed to a shaft that has worked for me in previous drivers, a Grafolloy Blue Regular flex, 45 inches. As a number of other reviewers have stated, you cannot overswing this club. It performs best with a smooth swing, regardless of shaft. However, I found shot dispersion to be unpredictable; but always to the center or left and therein lies the problem. Although a career slicer, I hooked 3 to 4 drives a round; usually at inopportune times. I also had a tendency to hit shots on the heel as I consciously tried to slow my tempo. My "natural" swing was lost in the attempt to match the kind of swing you should put on this club. I do not play enough to have a "grooved" or "in tempo" swing and maybe come at the ball too aggressively through the hitting area. If you have these tendencies look elsewhere as the draw bias will kick in in spades and you will likely hook shots.

Customer Service

Not used; an E-Bay purchase.

Model Reviewed: TM R5 Dual Draw, 10.5, NV65

I've been working very hard on my swing and fundamentals all summer, and have had the pleasure of seeing my scores drop from the 100s to the low 90s, and have broken 90 on a few occasions. I always figured that you should be able to hit any club if your fundamental swing was okay, then you would do okay. Even so, I've graduated from a TM320 9.5 which I hit for years off the tee, to the R5 dual. I've always had a fade/slice with all my woods, and this is my first new driver. It's 10.5 draw with the aldilia shaft and all I can say is WOW. I hit my first two drives with it straight down the fairway and quite long--right out of the box--I didn't try it before I bought it. After my round I took it to the range to give it a real try. I was blown away. It is by far the easiest wood I've ever hit, and quite frankly I'm as comfortable with it as I am hitting a 7 iron. It's that smooth. I hit probably 30 balls in a row that all carried the 250 sign and straight, straight, straight. When I did mis-hit they would still have good distance and flight patterns, and my bad slice was seriously turned into a nice fade, without losing the distance. I absolutely CANNOT say enough good things about this club. TM was thinking of me when they made it. Paid $200 for it delivered.

Model Reviewed: Taylor Made R5 Dual

I too bought the R5 in hopes of taming the occasional fade. I thought that with the right weighting I would be able to draw the ball. I wasn't looking for miracles but I was surprised with the results I got. I was using a Wilson Fatboy driver and hitting generally straight and about 260 yards. This was a pretty reliable club but getting older. I bought the R5 Dual with a draw bias and started playing right away. I waited three months before this review just to give myself time to adapt to the new driver. This driver has accentuated my fade... (near slice now) and has robbed me of about 10-15 yards. I don't understand it. It seems to be doing the exact opposite of what was promised. I went back to the store and asked if they had any advice for me. He was not surprised. I guess he has had several complaints like this. I would not be surprised if the advertising was responible for unreasonable expectations. He said that it probably has to do with the shaft and I should either keep practising or re-shaft it. Anyone else have any ideas?

Customer Service

When I phoned to ask for alternative solutions they reccomended a golf lesson. Thanks!
