TaylorMade R5 Dual D Drivers

TaylorMade R5 Dual D Drivers

DESCRIPTION

The r5 dual features widely spaced, dual TaylorMade Launch control (TLC) cartridges that are pre-configured and permanent. This positions the weight ideally so you don't have to. With Launch Control promoting an extremely high MOI (moment of inertia) and proper clubhead rotation, the r5 dual Type N delivers remarkable forgivness and a straight ball flight while the r5 dual Type D provides a draw. Meanwhile, the exceptionally large 450cc titanium clubhead not only looks substantial at address, but it also gives you solid contact, consistently straighter shots and of course, confidence. And with TaylorMade's revolutionary inverted Cone Technology, the expanded COR of the r5 results in higher ball velocity on off center hits for longer, more consistent drives.

Model Reviewed: Taylor Made R5 Dual D, 10.5*, Regular shaft

I think people should actually use a product before they comment on it and disparage the maker.

I bought my R5 Dual Draw last week. It's my first driver, as I only started golfing last year. After hitting it well at the range, I took it on the course yesterday and my very first drive was 220yds straight down the fairway. As I gained confidence with it, I managed to put on a couple of 250yd drives (and I don't really care if you believe me or not). Even when I hit off the toe or heel, the ball still flew straight and true.

The Draw model is great if, like me, you tend to leave your clubface slightly open at impact. Otherwise, you might be better off with the Neutral model. There's also a Tour Preferred model with adjustable weights (like the R7) for those who swing faster than 100mph, but that's definitely not me.

That being said, if you aren't happy with your clubs, don't just buy new ones--spend the money on a lesson and learn what you can do better.

Hey Tomb I read your review and it's pants. The R5 is a great driver. While I have never drawn a ball it does have a massive head and is quite forgiving.

It does help to stop the slice with the club head being closed but it won't eleminate a bad swing with an open face. I find if you hit through the ball with a nice tempo it goes a country mile. If you try to crush it as with all drives you tend to open the face and slice it.

I used to have a cobra SZ440 9deg and 10.5 which are both great clubs. The 10.5 had too much loft and sent the ball too high but it was easier to hit than the 9*

I can hit the R5 10-15 yards further on the same holes and with more consistancy as well.

The R5 feels and looks great at set up.

I belive you should pick the driver you feel the most confident with! Then work on your short game to hit them GIR to lower your score.

Model Reviewed: Taylor Made R5 Dual D 10.5 Reg.

This review is honest due to me being a unbiased 3rd party in a foursome. The lone golfer who joined in with a new Taylor Made R5 Dual D 10.5 Reg hit 170 - 180 yard slices in the fairway or rough, and claimed it to be great. He hit it like a big high pitching wedge. The guy would likely post 260 yards with slight fade like 90% of the liars here. What a piece of total junk. Taylormade should be ashamed to produce clubs like the R5. I bet the new 460 is a real clunker too and I wouldn't even take a tester out.

My summary of Taylormade: Most new drivers are for those that don't close it hard at impact. For those who close hard, to defend against the duck hook, have to hit a weak slice and somtimes get a straight ball. This is not how driving a golf ball is supposed to happen. The stock shafts are a joke and once again, for those who accept sub-standard junk. These are not to the stiffness and torque of the UST v2 or graffaloy 35s.

The TM model that will be safer for those who close hard at impact and actually can swing well, must be the R7 425 "Tour Preferred" with a slight open face and hard shaft.

You can see that TM is going backwards as they try to help golfers too much:
580XD 10.5 (Junk); TM R5 N 9.5 + 10.5(Junk); TM 320 Tour (good); TM 300 (good); TM540 10.5 (bet the 9.5 was great - the 10.5 was too high but good straight flight)

Customer Service

good - they aren't the issue, it's the "new" designers who should be let go.

Utter garbage. I generally hit my driver pretty straight, and have to work to get a draw out of it, so i thought i would try the R5 which i thought would help me do that. Worked great at the store simulator. Took it to the course and got the totally opposite result. I was hitting high fades the whole round. I could not stop it no matter how i tried without resorting to trying to pull hook the thing. I was totally disappointed. Fact is it actually quite confusing. I was hitting the club pretty much around the sweet spot, and my tee marks on the sole of the club were telling me i was squaring up the face, but still, high fades. brought it back to the store, and luckily got my refund. This taught me never to make an impulse buy based on product hype.

Got my R5-D about a month ago and was very disappointed. Yeah, it turned my slice into a big fade and helped me keep the ball in play more but I was still only getting 175-190 yds on my drives. I wanted more distance, so I finally went to my local pro and got a lesson. Within a half hour and a couple of adjustments to my grip and swing he had me hitting the ball 240-250 straight down the middle or with a nice little draw. The R5-D is a fantastic club and is very forgiving but it will not cure a bad swing. If you are slicing, you have a bad swing. My advice is to spend $50-$100 and get a lesson or two and then get fitted to get the right shaft and loft angle for your swing. This way you will appreciate what the R5-D has to offer and not be disappointed like I was, at first.

Model Reviewed: Taylor Made R5-Draw w/Aldila NV 65 Stiff 9.5 LH Driver

I just bought the Taylor Made R5 Draw, 450cc, 9.5 degree Left Hand, with the Aldila NV 65 Stiff shaft for $198. I hit this club 10 yards further and straighter than my R580 9.5. I get 10 yards more extra roll as well with the draw. Even off center hits go straight and stay in the fairway. The Ping G5 460cc and Callaway GBB 454cc are crap compared to this club and easy to push or slice. The TM R5 9.5 is on average 15 yards further than both of those and much more forgiving. The Ping and Callaway lose alot of distance if you don't hit them dead center. The TM R7 460cc is almost as long but does not feel as solid as the TM R5 and cost twice as much $399. If it is not messed up then don't screw with it. Get the Taylor Made R5 now before they are all gone. I would opt for the better shafts like the Aldila NV 65, Grafalloy Blue, or UST V2, to get a more boring trajectory. The stock Taylor Made MAS 55 shaft in the Draw models is tip soft, will hit the ball too high and you will lose distance. It is to light for me at D1. I use a D3. In the TM R5 Neutral model, the MAS 55 shaft is tip stiff and probably O.K. for some people.

Model Reviewed: r5 D

I bought this club a couple of months ago and it is by far the best golf purchase I have ever made. I had the Great Big Bertha II before this and stuggled with a slice. With the r5 I hit it dead straight every time, even on my hardest swings. In fact I swing as hard as I possibly can on almost every drive and the best part is the amazement expressed by my playing partners how far and straght it goes still goes.

Also, I can reach many more par 4 greens with this club than my GBBII. I am so confident with this club that on long par 5s I opt for it rather than fairway woods on the long second shots and consistently have great results.

I have hit every new driver out there numerous times and can say this is the best. The only thing that I would say compares is the r7 460. But for a driver you can get for low $200s, there is abolutly nothing better, even a driver in the $400s. If you don't have the r5 already, buy it NOW!!!

Model Reviewed: Taylor Made R5 D Driver

I have always had a slice with a driver and was used to aiming at a target off to the left side of the fairway. No more! With this club I can can aim straight down the fairway with accuracy and distance. Before buying this driver, I tried them all at either a demo day or local store. The R5 had the best performance for me and as a bonus it was a better value than the others I tried. I paid $225.

I'm short, stocky, and in my mid forties. It was time for a regular shaft and I'm quite happy with the stock shaft on this driver. If you tend to slice, I recommend this driver.

I am 15 and were on the look out for a new driver im quite a straight driver of the ball and average high 70's to low 80's. I have had this club for a couple of weeks now and i love it. At the start it took a while to get used to mainly because i didnt want to wreck it lol. But now its going great good distance and great accuracy. I cant praise the accuracy of this club enough its great. I have it in the 10.5 reg type draw and works a treat. I tried other drivers to the Callaway x 460 horrible!!!! The ram fx cg 9 tour poor!!! Ping g5 a good driver but i preferred the r5. Finally i would just like to say if you are on the market give this a try its great and i love it.
