TaylorMade R5 Dual D Drivers

TaylorMade R5 Dual D Drivers

DESCRIPTION

The r5 dual features widely spaced, dual TaylorMade Launch control (TLC) cartridges that are pre-configured and permanent. This positions the weight ideally so you don't have to. With Launch Control promoting an extremely high MOI (moment of inertia) and proper clubhead rotation, the r5 dual Type N delivers remarkable forgivness and a straight ball flight while the r5 dual Type D provides a draw. Meanwhile, the exceptionally large 450cc titanium clubhead not only looks substantial at address, but it also gives you solid contact, consistently straighter shots and of course, confidence. And with TaylorMade's revolutionary inverted Cone Technology, the expanded COR of the r5 results in higher ball velocity on off center hits for longer, more consistent drives.

i got the 12 degree version of this club second hand from E-Bay at a steal. it came with stiff flex which seems to perfectly complement my swing. this is without doubt one of the best clubs i have ever put my hands on (normally in the wrong grip!!) after only a handful of rounds with this club i find i am hitting longer and straighter (with slight draw) than ever before. Usually i found it difficult to reach the green in 2 on long par 5's but with this club and my new v-steel 3-wood they are now well within reach. i currently play off 28 but i expect that to drop dramatically when my chipping and putting improves. this club gives me confidence standing over the ball that i am going to hit it sweetly down the middle. Seriously it is that good.

i recently had an r7 425, and on one round of golf, i tried out my uncles r5 dual d. I absolutly loved this club, and prefered it to the r7. So i swopped it with my incle. I am 14( nearly 15) and can easily hit 240+ with this emaculate driver. The 450cc head is extremely forgiving, however you hit it. It also loved the amount of distance and also height i got on the ball, and only a touch of draw. I recommend this club to any type of golfer.
Thank you taylor made. Im in love!!

Model Reviewed: R5 Dual Type D 10.5 w/ Aldila NV Regular Shaft

Well, after playing a few rounds with this club, I think it is time to post a review. The first thing I noticed was how hot the face of this club was. No mattter where you hit the ball, the ball will go fairly far. This club is quite forgiving as well. I used to have a huge slice with my old TM 360 Ti and this club has fixed that completely. Now, the only true miss I have is a pull hook to the left that still goes at least 250. When I hit it the best I could, it goes 300, no joke. On average, I hit it 275-280. Just for your info, I'm 15 and I weigh 125. So, if you're older and more powerful, this is definitely a club that will provide distance. The main purpose of buying this club was to not slice the ball. I definitely feel the club close a bit more at impact which has given me a straight shot and even a slight draw sometimes. With the Aldila shaft, the ball launch is lower than the factory shaft, but more forgiving because it is stiffer and higher quality. One thing is to maybe look for it at a cheaper price than 249 at Golfsmith, but it was still worth it. Overall, this is a great club that will work for any skill level of player.

Customer Service

Haven't had to use it yet, but I am sure it will be satisfactory.

I bought this driver from rockbottomgolf.com for $200 and I can honestly say it is the best $200 I have spent on a driver. I am not hesitant to spend $400 on a club, but after being put on a launch monitor, this was the best club for my swing.

I am not like some reviewers who claim I hit the ball 310+ yards, but with a 102 MPH swing speed, I am getting the ball 270-285 down the middle.

The club is very forgiving and sets up well behind the ball. It also produces a great sound when you strike the ball solidly.

This is just my opinion. Get put on a launch monitor to see what works best for you.

Model Reviewed: R5 DUAL TYPE D, 10.5 deg

I read some reviews about the feel on these R5's being tinny and that worried me a little. I was trying to buy a TYPE N and accidentally bid on this Type D. I thought I'd just resell it but then I noticed it came with a regular flex Grafalloy Blue and decided to give it an honest evaluation. The combination of this clubhead and shaft gives this driver a very solid feel. I was afraid the shaft might make my trajectory lower than I wanted but it hits it high with lots of carry. The Type D gives me a little more distance with the draw tendency and I need that since my swing speed is only 91 mph. Shot dispersion is noticeably more accurate unless I put a bad swing on it. Overall I'm enjoying this driver much more than I thought I would. I see now why TaylorMade is #1 in driver sales and on the pro tours.

I got this club, it was the best choice i ever made. It is rediculously forgiving and easy to hit. I have no slice now and an extra 35 yards on my drive. I got a cool aldila nv65 shaft in mine for no extra cost. It annoys me that some people say, oh its not the r7 though, they dont understand that the latest model isn't always the best its just for a more experienced player, and a little harder to hit. This is the most worthy investment that ive spent on golf.

Customer Service

Never had to use it, bought it straight from Dick's.

Model Reviewed: taylor made r5 dual 9.5 (L)

I went searching for the perfect driver to step up my game. I'm around a 17 handicap. I am serious into golf only a couple of years now. I recently got the taylor made r5 dual 9.5 with the stiff TM M.A.S. shaft. I tend to slice, but not much so I thought this would be perfect. I had a good feeling from the start from the feel of this club and the way it addressed the ball.(sets up with the face out just a notch, not too much) I liked the demo and brought it out to the range. I am telling you now this club is solid! I was hitting it straight almost every shot with penetrating trajectory. I drive usually 250-270, with this club 270-300. The TM M.A.S stiff shaft is fine for now, just enough stiffness and not too much bending through impact. I am a big guy (6'3 230) with around 105-110 mph swing speed. Lots of forgiveness here. I feel confident with this driver compared to others tryed- ping g5/cleveland launcher- which are good also but taylor made is a solid, well made , good looking driver.I am looking forward to starting the season well prepared now. This is a club that any golfer with any skill level can count on for beautiful drives. Not a suprise, TM always delivers!

I am looking to replace my taylormade R-580, 9.5. So I tried this club with same shaft as my R-580, Graffaloy prolite, stiff, stock shaft and aldila NV. And as far as I am concerned, it is not worth the money, forgiving as my 580, distance is about 10 yards shorter, same trajectory. I usually shot in the high 70's low 80's and I could not get myself to shell out the money for this club, you can get the R-580 and the R-580XD for 40 to 60 bucks less in ebay than the R-5 and even R-7's. What does that say about these clubs?

Customer Service

Excellent, borther in law broke shaft on his year old R-580, sent it in and the replaced the shaft with a r-5 shaft and he had it back in 5 days total.

I'm not too happy with my new Taylor Made R5 Dual D. Today I used it on the front and pulled or pull-hooked everything. On the back I used my Accuflex Assassin shafted Alpha 830.2 and every drive was in the fairway. Perhaps I was swinging better, but I don't think so. The Taylor mad is just a hooking machine, I think.

I played with the TM320 Driver for the last 4 years. I thought I would never learn how to hit the newer large head/face drivers. I failed miserably with a purchase of the R7, I just couldn't get the high booming drives that I once got with my 320. At swingspeed of 95-100, there is a dividing point (depending on a person's swing individual techniques - especially angle-of-attack) where sheer balistic force will not get you as much distance unless you put some extra spin on the ball for added lift. What did it for me was purchasing the R7 HT this year. The HT version of the R7 had a big 400CC head, but still had a slightly lower profile than the standard R7, and was set up for more spin. It let me get away with my steeper swing-plane and provided the spin I needed for lift to get the distance I was used to with my 320 - and then some! But the thing is, it rewarded me handsomely when I shallowed out my swing-plane and began to catch it in the upper part of the higher-profile face, producing the gear-effect: those high-trajectory lower-spin knuckle-balls that carried forever. Essentially the R7 HT trained me how to hit the big-headed drivers by giving me both worlds in a single driver head. When I read in a magazine about a robot test with the R5, where they set the robot up for straight shots, and also to slice and hook, and the R5 beat all of the current drivers in accuracy, I had to try it out. Even at 440CC, it was no problem to hit from the get-go. I switched out the shaft to a Grafalloy Pro-Launch 55 gram stiff shaft, and this thing has been fantastic. The R5 launches very high, but with not as much spin as the R7 HT. You can still put spin on it if you hit 'down' on the ball too much, but nothing like the R7 HT. The ultimate reward is when you put a good hit on this thing it is so very long and accurate. Don't put too much hope in the 'D' option of this club curing your slice. You can still slice this thing a country mile. But, I think of it as 'support' for someone who can and will miss to the right. It's just going to add a certain measure of help and confidence on the tee to make sure you come around on this thing with a relaxed, confident swing and a full release and let the club do the rest.
