Model Reviewed: R510 TP9.5*, stiff fujikura

I started off well with this driver, extremely long on flush hits (as expected) without too much distance loss on mis-hits. However the consistency was low and I would miss more fairways than hit with driving normally being my strength. I found the fujikura shaft to be a good fit with this driver but need to find more of the short grass so have switched to the new Nike Ignite. If you are looking for great distance, go get one.

I was playing the 320Ti Tour and was hitting approx 290 straight down the middle. I switched to the R510 TP and my drives now go over 300. I just have a problem with consistency. When I originally got the club, I needed a stiff shaft, now I need an X-stiff to help keep the scatter down. When you hit it flush, though, you know it and it's the best feeling ever with a golf club. The ball just SOARS out there and lands softly. I don't recommend it to higher handicaps. The square face does not lend itself to straight mis-hits.

This driver is an incredbly powerful driver i have been using the r7 quad and even that does not give me as boring and powerful ball flight as this Tp version very impresive I would recommend to the more advanced golfer ie <10 others should maybe look at other models outside of the tp version.

I used this club for the first time today (757 Speeder shaft) and wow is it ever long! I always read reviews that raved about clubs with a grain of salt. This machine is incredible. I won't brag about distance, but only that I consistently hit this thing 30-40 yards farther than any other driver I have tried. I've got to work on consitency with it, but I expect that to come in time. Needless to say I'm a believer.

I really ReAlLy REALLY like this club The face is hot but the trajectory is medium -- that's the best combination for me so I can consistently hit a tee shot that rises quickly, flattens out and carries a long way. The wind has less effect and you can get some release on the fairway. The club sets up dead square, which for me is highly important. At address, I can set my hands properly with no sense of needing to press them forward to get it back to square and through impact I feel I can release them freely without fear of hitting a hook. I know other manufacturers claim that many of their models set up square too, but when I set them down behind the ball they still look closed to me (Titleist clubs, for example, look closed to me.) The reason you know the R510 TP sets up perfect is because Taylormade uses the exact same cast for consumers as the ones they use for their tour pros -- as they say, "it's not similar to the pros club, it is the pros club." Another critically important aspect of the R510 TP head is that it's a lot deeper than the regular 510 model -- this gives you a lot more room above the center of the club face to make contact with the ball, which is the way to get the most out of the modern drivers and balls. Lastly, the Fujikura 757 Speeder shaft (the real Speeder, not the joke Titleist puts in the 983's) is exceptional as well. It's so well balanced that even though it's heavier than most graphite shafts on the market, it doesn't feel heavier. You can make an aggressive move at the ball with confidence the shaft will be there with you, unlike a lot of other shafts that kind of flop around. I really find nothing lacking about this club. It immediately became the driver of choice for me after just one session at the range.

Customer Service

They're very slow to respond at Taylormade -- clearly the R&D department is better staffed than customer relations.

This is the best driver Ive ever played. Although the Titleist drivers are right up there in terms of performance, I just like the larger head of the Taylor Made. Even with the larger head, I can still hit the ball in a any direction or shape i want to but still a little more forgiveness with the larger head.

This is the best driver out there. I've added about 10 yards to my drive due to lower ball flight. You can work the ball either direction.

I had already owned the Taylor Made R580 7.5 degree driver when I made this purchase. I hit the R580 well but never really could control it. I then bought the R510 TP and life has never been the same. With the 7.5 degree loft, it bore through some real windy conditions with ease. It was like being shot out of a cannon. I am hitting 500+ par 5's in two thanks to this club. The shaft really does wonders in terms of resisting torque created by my swing.

After waiting anxiously for this club to arrive, I finally was able to get it on the course yesterday. WOW! This is one solid golf club. I had hit almost every other Taylor Made driver they've got, but never could find a shaft that worked for me -- Taylor Made MAS shafts just don't do it, and the two others I tried (YS7.1 and Aldila NV) didn't either. I own a 983K with the Speeder 757 shaft which I love, so I had hoped that the same shaft would perform in the 510 TP. Does it ever. This club has a little more weight and size than the traditional 510, it feels really good through the hitting zone, and it is LONG. I play with pretty good players who usually outdrive me by a good 8-10 yards. Not anymore! I was pretty much neck-and-neck with them. YEAH! Very happy with this driver and would highly recommend it to any single-digit handicapper.
