A good driver, great feeling at impact and makes a nice sound different to that of other titanium drivers out there, easy to shape and control, distance isn't to bad either not overly long but you definitely wont lose any distance. However, the stock shaft is horrible, probably too soft for those of you with swing speeds of 105 mph and above.

Overall a good club and could definitely improve your game would recommend it to people with handicaps of 10 and over. And make sure you find the shaft suited to your swing its a big help.

Well i just bought this driver and i love it. I gained at least 10-15 yards off the tee. The ball just shoots off the club face and the sound is so sweet. I saw an immediate change with this driver. With my old driver i would have to swing out of my shoes to get it to go as far as i can hit it with this driver.

I bought this club for £75 after playing two disasterous games with the frying pan golf club known as the K1 speed. I switched to this and straight away my game was back to its usual standard. Very easy to manipulate draw and fade so overall this is probably the best driver i have ever hit. My handicap is +1 and with this club im sure i will get back to my old handicap of +2.

I have had a fewer drivers in my time but, this driver is perfect. The feel is great!! With my old Callaway Big Bertha I was lacking on distance (no matter what I did). I got to try this clud at a demo at my local range with many other drivers. With the 540 I was getting the ball over the back net! I even used the R7 but, had better feel and distance with the 540XD. I never thought I woud ever drive to the green on a Par 4. But, I do it all of the time now. This club has really boosted my confidence! I would highly recommend this driver.

I'm sure this driver is great for some people, but, I on the other hand seem to have to fast a swing fot the XD. I have been told by people that a faster swing requires a stiffer shaft. This looser shaft, then say the R540 N, is causing a bad slice in my shot. I still hit the ball 210.

I LOVE this driver. It's probably the best driver I've ever hit, despite going to a couple demo days and trying some newer drivers. This driver is just as good as most drivers out there.

I haven't tried the newer Taylor Made drivers, but I can only assume they're great since this club is so awesome.

I'm hitting the best drives of my life with it.

You can find this club on ebay for around $100- it's a great buy.

Ram 420 Ti- my old driver, piece of crap; I thought I was the problem why I wasn't getting distance off the tee- I switched to the TM R540XD and instantly hit the ball 30-40 yards further.

Nike Sasquatch- A good driver, 2nd best

Cobra F-Speed (I think- it could have been X speed) anyhoo, it was pretty good as well- the Nike outperformed it, as well as my TM

Adams Redline RPM- Not bad, a little bit shorter than the Taylor Made- the weight is nice though

Ping G5- Great driver, right up there with the Nike one

I purchased the taylormade r540xd in 2004.I have used this club ever since and have no plans to change drivers anytime soon!!!The feel and performance are outstanding.i replaced my shaft with a graphite RIFLE shaft. It is a 65 oz stiff flex. That is what seems to work for me,after having this club for a couple years i dont wonder why taylormade is a successful company!!thanx taylormade

Bought this last year new $228 Cndn @ Golftown.Played over 40 rounds with it. I had tried the 580xd in S&R & 540xd R/ stiff&soft tip After hitting the simulator for 30 minutes I decided on the 540xd soft tip9.5, I just consistantly hit more fairway and better distance. I dumped the grips and put on a golfpride softie. The first 10 rounds were fun, oh I had a few strays to the right but overall felt confident on the tee. Usually around the 240-250 marker. Then of course the brain starts to get too involved and wants more, then the tip seemed too soft and I sprayed numerous balls to the right. Broke 90 with it at a Tourney. Decided to change my grip partway through the year so that sort of messed up my game although it did give me my longest drive of the year at 305 with roll no wind. Got a R5 N 9.5 prolaunch 65s this christmas so got to compare them both at the heated range. Found I could swing harder with the r5 without the slice. At address the R5 looks pretty much the same but does have a thicker club face. I decided I would reshaft the xd with aldila nv or nvs. Went to golftown to try the shafts.Prblm being nv was in an ERC and the nvs in a G5. I didn't like the ERC at all and the Ping delivered the same as the XD. I also hit the XD and it was the most consistant out of them all, 286 in the middle accrdng 2 simulator,6 in a row! Comfort level with the club I'm sure helps explain that. I'll have to take it back out 2rnge and hit it again. I find if you try to swing too hard this dlub definately punishes you more than the R5. Take the 250-275 in the fairway and live with it. It's not like Im gonna hit them all 300yds. It does have a very high ball flight, 55g shaft feels very light, marks easy had tubes in my bag and walk with a pullcart, ring marks from new tubes. For the price you can get these at now, $100 used, an excellent buy. Aldila shafts are on for $100 at Golftwn till end of Feb!
