This driver just rocks! I have never been consistent with a driver until I started using this one. I played 2005 using a 3-wood (TM 200 clone), but got the 540XD (couple of years old) from eBay for about $50 with a new Apache PM-30i shaft. If you need a solid driver that is forgiving, you cannot go wrong here.

This is by far the best driver I have ever owned. I used to play the Callaway BBII, The Callaway C4, Mizuno 001 and all those are good drivers, but the Taylor Made R540XD is outstanding. I purchased the 12 degree driver (I used to use a 10.5 or an 11) and while you would think I would lose some yardage with that high of a degree, I have actually gained alot. I am hitting more fairways, and I can hook or fade this thing at will (probably has more to do with me than the club!?!?!). It looks great at address, and it instills confidence. I can honestly say I havent duffed one tee shot with this thing. I am hitting this 12 degree driver about 265, so you can imagine how well a player with a good swing is going to hit the 9 or 10 degree driver... I bought this for 149 dollars at golf galaxy BRAND NEW---excellent club and excellent value.....

Best driver I've ever hit. Goes very far without much effort. The sweetspot is very large and miss-hits still go very far. The club is also very light and produces a very high swing speed. Ideal driver for a mediocre golf player looking for distance and accuracy.

I had never tried this club b4 i bought it. I was enthralled with the R7 demoing at the range. However, the price tag still was too high and I settled with the 540XD. This club plays is very aggressive sweet, indicative of all TM clubs. The R7 has better feel and the acoustics of the 540xd is bit ackward. However, the ball launches with much alacrity and the head shaft combo yields better accuracy than my GBBII. Revamping my drives has really brought more enthusiasm back into my game.

Customer Service

Traded in my steel shafted GBBII(big mistake for reshafting it to steel) and paid a chunk change for the driver

This driver takes some getting used to. I just turned 16, and usually shoot in the 80's. I Highly recommend this club to people with a low handicap, due to its "small sweet spot" . I can Smack the ball on holes that have big fairways, but if i need to place it in a certain position in the fairway, I would be opted to use my 3 wood rather than this. But, after about a month of playing with it, I have adjusted to it, and have no regrets of buying it.

I traded my Ping driver in for this club about 6 months ago and have enjoyed it from day one. It is 10.5 degrees of loft, stiff shaft (55g) with a soft tip. I do admit that at times it does feel a little to soft if you try to over swing the club. On my good days , I can drive the ball about 265 to 275 yards total with roll. I played with someone that had the same club, but was reshafted with a Graffaloy and he was hitting it about 290-300 yards easily. Maybe the shaft or the golfer, but he an I hit our 3 woods and irons about the same distance.
