wow - this is a long club. Used to consistently hit around 230/240 off the tee.. Played this thing for the first time last week & hit several drives around 260-275. Suits me just fine!

Was playing a 975J-VS, which was not very forgiving. Miss the sweetspot by half an inch and direction and distance suffered. My swing speed is a little over 100 mph and the 540 (9.5) with the stock shaft has made a serious difference in my confident. The driver plays longer than the J-VS for me because of the soft tip shaft that gives a little whip on the end without over-torquing and the sweet spot is huge. Players that generate power with quick swings (fast release) may want to try a custom shaft with a lower torque and firmer tip. If you swing smooth, the shaft is fine. It feels almost like a trampoline. The ball seems to jump and scream. You can hit it high or low. I think it is a great driver and sets up just fine.

Alright, I have been playing Titleist Drivers since I have been playing competitvely in high school. started with the R, the D, the J, and stuck with the J for a while, when I was hitting it good it was a great driver, but when my swing was a little off, it got bad. So I went to my head pro and tried out all the new Titlest drivers, the 983K, the 983E, the LF's and whatever. my launch angle was way to low with ALL of them and they just felt terrible. So at the last second I picked up the 540 with a stiff shaft at 9.5 degrees and started hitting it and WOW, i had my launch angle at about 11.5 to 12.0 consistanly. and for the week I have had it I have not hit a driver this well IN A LONG TIME. I am at a +1 handicap and I have gained a good 10-15 yards compared to my J and the other Titleists. This club is comsemitcally nice as well, it has a good weight, and is simply a cannon. I have never felt better as I do with this club over the ball. If you have not hit this, do it before you consider anything else.

I seldom put up review, even though I tried lots of drivers. R540 is something worth ring a bell. I change the shaft to low torque Harrison and a flex which fits me. The result is extremely long - 20-30 yrds more. Even on 8.5 deg, slicing is minimal on mis-hit. Hitting toe/heel will drop yardage by 20%. My norm on R540 is 250yds, My recent record distance on R540 is 300 yds, and a toe/heel hit is >200 yds. really impressive. I've never tried on a stock shaft, but the feel of the head is good, though not excellent. The best feel I've tried is Titleist 975. But 975 head is too heavy. I played C4 before. Good and v forgiving but it is too light. Japanese drivers (PRGR, bridgestone, s-yard) are too flippy. Callaway and Cleveland are too loud & bouncy - you can never feel the impact as the ball flies off right away. Frankly, the whole point playing a driver is long while keep ball in play. (else use 3-wood) so forgiveness and distance is my top priority, not feel. I am sure if you don't mind a higher ball flight, playing a 10.5 deg is almost guarantee straight shot, at least for me. The ball flight is slightly higher than R510. On my 8.5 deg, the ball rolls quite a lot and I don't think R540 put much spin on it. In all, it is a superb driver, and the price you paid for is worthwhile.

HAVE BEEN HITTING THIS CLUB FOR 3 WEEKS NOW. IVE HAVE ALWAYS DISLIKED THE BIGGER HEADED CLUB, MOST LOOK & FEEL LIKE A BRICK ON A BROOMSTICK TO ME. WAS HITTING THE OLD T/M TI BUBBLE CLUB NOT REAL LONG BUT PRETTY STRAIGHT. STOPPPED AND HIT A R540 DEMO AT A DRIVING RANGE BECAUSE ONE OF MY BUDDY HIT THIS CLUB. I WAS TRULY AMAZED AT HOW WELL I HIT THIS CLUB SINCE I DONT LIKE THE BIG HEADS. HAVE HIT IT LONGER & STAIGHTER THAN ANY DRIVER I HAVE EVER HIT. THE LONGER I HIT IT THE MORE I LIKE IT. I KNOW SOME PEOPLE SAY THE STOCK SHAFT IS JUNK BUT FOR ME IT HAS BEEN EXCELLENT. I KNOW MANY PEOPLE THINK THEY HIT THE BALL FURTHER THAN THEY THINK THEY DO, BUT I KNOW FOR A FACT THIS CLUB I 30-35 YARDS LONGER THAN MY OLD TI BUBBLE. I THINK MY NEVERENDING QUEST FOR A DRIVER IS OVER, AND I HAVE PLAYED ALMOST EVERTHING. CLUB IS SUPER FORGIVING.

If you want the best driver money can buy, then look no further. I average 290 with this thing and have driven several par 4's over 300 yds. My personal best was a tap in on a 367 yd. par 4. I can hit it high, hit it low like Tigers stinger 2 iron, 270 and never rises more than 20 ft. off the ground). I can fade it, hook it, or hit it string straight. I have gained so much confidence with this club that I am going to try out at the Tour Q-School this fall. Look for me on the tour next year. Tiger better start quaking in his boots. Peace.

LIKE OTHERS HAVE SAID, THIS IS A VERY CONSISTENT CLUB. NOT THE LONGEST BUT HARD TO GO WRONG. FORGIVENESS IS SUPREME BUT THE LARGER HEADS ARE SUPPOSE TO BE. FEEL IS SLIGHTLY MUTED ALMOST, DARE I SAY PERSIMMON LIKE. STOCK SHAFT SEEMS OK BUT I'VE ALREAD Y CUT THE SHAFT TO FIT ME. 1" OFF AND ADDED 10" OF LEAD TAPE ON THE SHAFT NOT THE HEAD( LIKE ERNIE DOES TO 983K W/757) JUST ABOVE THE HOSEL AND BELOW THE GRIP. FLIGHT IS PERFECT FOR ME MED HIGH BUT NOT A BALLON LIKE IT'S SIBLING THE 320TI. AFTER GETTING OVER THE SIZE THIS THING MAKES GOLF EASIER!!! READ OTHER PLACES WHERE THEY HAVE CHANGE THE SHAFT BUT THE ENGINEERING SEEMS TO FIT THIS CLUB VERY LOW TORQUE, SOFT TIP GOOD COMBO.

All I can say is verrrry nice. Very smooth, good feel at impact. I don't notice the club being particularly long, its about average. But it's next to impossible to miss, it you put a good swing on it. Buy it don't fear....

Have never hit a driver like it! I have a 540 9.5 stiff, and have added 30 yards to my previous TM 300 8.5 The club head is remarkable, but the TM shaft (too torquey, too soft) and grip need to be upgraded. My pro put a Harrison Pro 2.5 shaft shortened 1.5" and I carry it 275 on center hits and not much less on off center hits.

Customer Service

Excellent. I had a problem with the clubface, and TM replaced it no prob.

This is the driver that is staying in my bag for a long time. I've tried a lot if different clubs in the past thirty years, and this is definitely an outstanding driver! I've never used a Taylor Made product before (I have kind of a Pavlovian-like brand loyalty to Callaway), but this driver will certainly make you sit up and take notice. It does not have the same draw bias as my old Hawkeye VFT, so it took a bit of adjusting. Also, it is not any longer than any other drivers out there. But it is extremely consistent. Toe shots go much further than they should, and heel shots are not much worse. Not as much of a "nailed it" feel as some other drivers, but I can live without that if I can avoid trouble (which I have not been in since I got this thing). Try out the various shaft options and the 510 and 580 because they are very different from each other. The 540 ball flight is a little higher than I am used to, but I don't appear to have lost any yardage.
