If you're considering the R7 425 or 460, go for the value and pick up the R580. I try just about every driver and this one is the one to play. The feel, set up, sound, and ball flight are the best of anything that's out there. I love this club. I hit fairly straight with a little draw and the only difference this club makes is the big difference in carry distance. I went from about 240 carry to 260 when I starting using this club. The golf shop guy got me to try the 8.5 instead of the 9.5 and there was very little difference, but the 8.5 seemed like it rocketed off the face. I have been waiting for the prices to drop to get myself a 460cc driver. I refuse to pay $400 for a driver, but this club was a bargain at $150 new. At 440cc the R580XD has plenty of volume and provides exceptional forgiveness and added distance. I bought a 10.5 degree with stiff Fujikura shaft. This is the best driver I have own by far; I gained 15-20 yards compared to my previous driver, a Wilson Deep red Tour 10.5/stiff shaft. I hit it straight or hit a little fade as the size of the club head makes it difficult to hit a draw, but I am happy with the ball flight. This is an outstanding club for all levels of players. Probably the best value for money driver around at the moment. I tested both the stiff and regular factory fitted shafts, and chose the reguar shaft for consistency even though the stiff shaft was a bit longer when I hit one out the screws. The only trouble I have is consistently working the ball left to right, but that is probably related to my swing more than to the club.

Quick Review: Great Driver! I've been playing golf for about 4 months, and was previously hitting an Adams GT2 (430cc) driver. I decided to pick this club up at Dick's for $149 with the Fujikura shaft!

What a great driver. Went from an R7 with 10.5 loft and stiff shaft to the same configuration in the R580XD. I instantly picked up 20 yards. I really struggled with the R7, but the R580XD is very easy to hit. I try all kinds of clubs and this is a steal at the close-out price of $179. Customer Service Didn't need to contact. A few swings with a buddies XD580 convinced me I should make the switch from years of Callaway preference.

First of all, this club is a suberb value at $200 brand new. I have been using this club for a year now and my handicap has gone from 17 down to 7. I am not going to say that this club gives me X number of yards or that I never miss a fairway, but it certainly adds confidence looking at the large clubhead at address. This club is playable for all handicap levels, but with the slightly closed clubface, if you hook the ball you may want to avoid it. All things considered, this is a great club that you definitely should consider if your looking for a driver. Customer Service Never Used. Similar Products Used: A bunch of other pro-line drivers. |

All I can say about this driver is how great a driver it really is. I play to a 10 handicap consitently, and avg about 290 yds off the tee, and with a good wind over 300 yds is easy with this club. I play a 9.5 degree with a Grafalloy blue stiff shaft and a lamkin dual density torsion control grip(awesome grip for any club recommended as well!!!), and the shaft is standard length. If you payed attention in the 2006 Masters you would have noticed that final round last group, Fred Couples was playing this driver, but had a bridgstone headcover on it. go figure now we know how boom boom still hits it a long way. Slicers beware, this club will enhance it. I probably hit 1/10 balls in the fairway, yes my swing isn't the greatest but man was this thing unforgiving if I made a particularily lousy swing. I can't tell you how many times I was 2 fairways to the right. If you have a good swing though I'm sure this club would work just fine, plus you can get it for under 100 used which is probably worth it. However if you're a slicer like most weekend golfers I'd stay away. Similar Products Used: R7 |

I had heard that this driver was very hot and forgiving but I have to say that I was surprised at how it performed when I finally tried it. It has a very hot face with what seems to be a very large sweet spot. Mis-hits produce good results and good contact produces bombs. Although it seems to want to hit straight, when I try to, I can work it either way. I have seen other people replace their 580xd with an R7 only to go back to their 580xd. I am considering buying another for a backup. Can't say enough good about this driver and wish I would have tried it sooner. I paid $169.00 brand new for it at the local golf shot in town.
