Movable weight makes this my best club bought. Able to keep up with my playing partner whom used to driver at least 50m in front prev. Ball flight is penetrating and stays in fairways more often

I too am an equipment junkie...

I recently got a good deal on Ebay for a 425TP with Rombax 75S. I thought the shaft might be a little heavy for me but it was a great feeling shaft. I did seem to swing it a bit more "deliberately", but that turned out to be a good thing.

This driver is VERY consistent and plenty long. The sound is nice, the balance is great, the 10.5* launched a bit lower than other 10.5's but that too was just fine.

The face felt to be maybe 1* open... I hit it with just a whisper of a fade when I tried to hit it straight... again, what a good thing, I just can't hit those 2,3,4* closed faces! Unlike some tour type open faces (like the Ping i15) I could draw this driver with a strong turn through the pellet...

I think this is a great driver, among the very best (Sergio maybe should have stayed with this one!).

Prices are now very reasonable and it is better (distance, workability and consistency)than almost all of the new OEM offerings... and for around a third of the cost.

I am an average golfer, but I am a golf equipment junkie. I have owned almost every iron and driver on the market. Old to new..... I love the new iron sets, great technology in all the new irons... Adams A7, Ping i15, Taylor Made R9's, etc.

But when it comes to drivers, I definitely, 100% think the older drivers are better. And I think a lot of the other reviewers on this site think the same way. The new driver heads feel way too light, clinky, almost like toy-drivers. This R7 425 driver is great because you can feel the head as you're swinging the club. It's not that it's heavy, it just has a nice solid feel to it. And you can feel it as you swing thru the ball. I am not a long driver, but I recently traded in a Callaway FTi driver, which actually isn't bad as far as the new technology goes. But with this R7 425 I had the longest drives of my life so far. Played the other day on my regular course, thought I hit a bad drive because I kind of hit it on the toe. Then we drove up to the ball, it turned out to the the longest drive I ever had on that hole, and I have played this course hundreds of times.

All in all, great driver, great feel, good distance, not gonna get a million more yards, but I bet I gained 10 yards on average. Distance is better then or equal to Ping G10, Nickent 4DX, Bang, but this one is more solid, just a solid accurate great driver.

First off let me say I am probably alot like all of you, reading reviews trying to justify a purchase of a new club.

When I bought this driver, I didn't read any of the reviews on it. I went out on a limb and bought this driver because, in a nutshell, it was a "Taylor Made". I bought the name.

I was a true loyalist to Callaway drivers and fairway woods. That all changed however with my first swing of this R7 425cc Taylor Made. It is deffinately confidence inspiring and just real good feel throughout your swing. I am not knocking Callaway because I still play their fairway woods (original Steelheads). I just like the R7 425cc better in a driver.

Don't listen to some of these knuckleheads saying you have to be a good player to hit these, if you make a good swing you'll hit a good drive, if you make a bad swing you'll hit a bad drive, it's as simple as that. Those guys just have egos bigger than themselves.

I did however change the shaft from the stock TaylorMade reax stiff, to a UST Proforce V2 stiff and what a difference. By the way, if anyone wants a sweet shaft check those out.

I hope this might help anyone looking at this driver....buy one! It's nice looking, long, forgiving, and long. By the way they are cheap now! You can go out and buy a new R9 for 4 bills, or you can buy this one for 1/4 of the price and not have buyer remorse.

Model Reviewed: Taylormade R9

Let me start off by saying that I know how golf club companys like to play in marketing ploys. I, like so many other people, can amd have gotten wrapped up in the quest to find all that wonderfull game improvement,"find the club that makes my swing better" features brought to everyone ala Technology. I purchased the R7 425 back in 2006, around the time that they came out and I have to say, tried everything else under the sun, and nothing, I mean NOTHING, could match the game I had when I had my 425 in the bag. It was my "gamer", and I would've been a fool to put anything else in the bag. I tried the Taylormade Burner..... Absolute garbage in my opinion, so I gave up on Taylormade after that and after looking and trying their new irons (come on, are these irons or oversized hot weels! Too busy, and no forged sets for mid-handicappers.) I was very, very sceptical about the R9. I thought, "great, what kind of junk is Taylormade trying to push market on us this time". Then, a friend of mine who works @ the local Golf retailer here called me and said a rep. for Taylormade left him an R9 for free and that he didn't care for it. would I like it?. Well, far be it from me to turn down free golf equipment. (I threw him some cash for it, I need a clear conscious.)
At first glance, I was pretty impressed. The business of the underside design is well hid, and at address, it looks a little smaller than some of these 460 square head mamoths thats out there. Triangular in shape, but not enough to put you off. After 2 rounds I can honestly admit.... I have a new "gamer", and R9 is clearly it. I don't find myself wishing I had the 425 in the bag as I did with so many other "try outs". This is very much like that club and I think it's just a mental thing knowing that you can change it up in all kinds of different ways, but that my friends, influences confidence.I set it up for draw, face came square and still is. All I did was configure the back end weights (like my 425). I haven't messed with the shaft, but I like that later on, as my swing will start to slow down, I can purchase and change the shaft myself! Right now it's 9.5 deg. with a stiff shaft. The head is a little bit lighter than some I've tried (Ping, Callaway, Mizuno, King Cobra, Adams, Nike, seriously, you want the entire list, I'm embaressed to list them all.). I'm very happy I opened up and tried this club, and if your hitting a 425 thats getting long in the tooth, check out the R9. You'll get the same great results with the ability to try new lofts & lie angels. To hell with all the marketing, My simple advertisement is I liked it, so go try it. Might be glad you did.

Customer Service

All these golf companies are the same. Helpfull to a point. They have to concern themselves with their biggest clients, who would be the retailers. Find yourself a good retailer, someone you can trust, and have them fit you for your Irons, wedges & drivers. Club fitting and lessons, strongest part of your game.

I heard good things about taylormade drivers so i thought id give this one a shot since its an older and cheaper model and i got it of ebay. First thing i really like this driver but the shaft flex i got was to flexible but since im left handed i didn't really have a choice and i want to ad distance but again i got the wrong shaft on the driver. I got a 75 g regular flex. I should have gotten a 55 stiff flex. As far as the weights go I did nt really experiment because i like the standard 2-12-12-2 set up. As far as straight goes i got a slight fade from the open face but i like it because its not too aggressive (The reason i put the value so low is because ill have to either re shaft it or get a new one but besides that if you can find the right flex and shaft for you its worth it )

great driver all round. it has a really nice solid feel to it unlike a lot of the new drivers on the market which seem to have lightweight heads and shafts that seem to flimsy (callaway ft iq and cobra drivers) when you hit a bad shot with this club you get feedback telling you this but not to the extent where it is jarring to your hands when you hit it off the heel. not a forgiving club which is good for me. weight system is only appropriate if you ar working the ball or can hit it straight and notice the subtlties in ballflight change. I have the stock shaft 65 gram reax by fujikura in stiff flex, in my opinion this shaft is more like a halfway point between stiff and regular which is good for me as i am generally in between flexes. ball flight was a little low to start with but when set to a power fade i hit it nicely. a little more forgiveness and better feeling sweet spot would have been better but you cant have everything i guess. there are definately better drivers for people hu shoot in the high 80s and 90s that need forgivness and just want a straight shot with max distance. but for me(i shoot on average 4 to 5 over par) and players who like to work the ball with a solid feeling club that offers good feedback and high performance then this is a great club. to those that shoot in the high 80s and above i would reccomend a club with more forgiveness and a 460 cc head, this club will just be to hard to hit for you guys. Hope you guys find this helpful.

Model Reviewed: r7 425 9.5 Fujikura Stiff

Previously i used an 11.5* Cleveland Hibore with a regular shaft, and i was pretty satisied until the wind kicked up, then the drives would balloon and get little distance. I was in need of a lower lofted club, so i tested out several drivers, and couldn't find one to work (my fault, just needed something that worked for me). For Christmas, I recieved a New R7 425 9.5* with a Fujikura Stiff shaft, and i immediately wanted to test out this driver on the range. The first shot i hit with it was decent, but was played with crappy range balls and ice cold weather. The ball seemed to stay on a straight path if i hit it on the heel or toe, and it was a dream compared to the Hibore. After about a week of practice with my new club, I started to see increases of distance in short periods of time. Origionally i would drive the ball around 200-210, and now i am seeing drives that are 260 yards and up! This driver on a normal swing gets about 210 carry for me, and alot of roll, but when i need a bigger carry, I tee it up a small ammount, and swing harder, and it gets alot more carry, and not much roll. Overall, this is an exellent driver, and has brought me from shooting in the mid 90's to the high to mid 80's.
