Model Reviewed: Taylormade R7 425 Driver

Ok was using the Cobra Speed LD drive which can hit some bombing drives. The problem is the head feels way to light for me, forcing me into over-swing situations.

Today I tried a guys R7 425 that played in our four-some. The first drive I hit was one of my best ever. I continued to use this on 4 holes to make sure it was not a fluke and it wasn't.

For me, with the Re-Ax 54g shaft, I can feel the weight of the head on the end of shaft. Here is an analogy. Swing a piece of string. Cannot feel anything. Now tie a tennis ball on the end of the string and swing it.

The R7 425 lets me feel exactly where the head is in the swing and keeping the club on the swing-plane is super easy now.

Drives are right down the middle of the fairways and with the slight fade, distance is indeed gained in roll carry.

Today I hit a par 5 (550 yds) in 2 that I have never hit before in 2 with a massive drive from the R7 425 and second shot with a Cobra DWS #3 steel shaft.

Never have owned a driver that I can hit this straight and for me I attribute it to feeling the weight of the head on the end of the shaft, whereas my Cobra I cannot feel anything because the head is too light.

Taylormade specs say the R7 425 is D4 swingweight compared to D0 for Cobra and other OEM's.

I have sent an email to Taylormade customer service asking what would happen is you used (4) 12 grams weights instead of (2) 12 gram weights and (2) 2 gram weights?

Once you feel the head at the end of the shaft, I think you can reasonably control the driver to hit long, straight shots a high percentage of the time.

Using the R7 425 today on 4 holes put me a drive and a sand wedge away on all the par 4's.

With the R7 425 being 2 years old already, you can find some excellent price deals on them. I picked up one still in the plastic for $140 and also got the tool kit and some extra weights tossed in.

Model Reviewed: r7 425tp 8.5* with TM/Fuji tp shaft

I wanted a winter project so I found the head, shaft and accessories on ebay and put it together myself and saved quite a bit. Once I got to try out the club on the course I immediately didn't like it but I kept using it to see if I would change my mind. Nope! I know some players really like this club but if you're a feel player like I am you probably won't want to touch it. When you read the other reviews where people are talking about how heavy the head is what they're actually feeling is how out of balance the club is, I had this set up with very low weights and it was the lightest club in my entire bag but it still felt like I was fighting it on the backswing. I also feel the adjustable weights are pretty silly, a buddy of mine has almost the same club with 14gram weights in it setup for a draw and still sliced the ball a lot. You can get some distance with this club but you'd never know it without watching the ball. The longest drive I hit felt the same as a lot of the bad ones I hit, I guess when you hit the sweet spot you're not supposed to feel anything!

This thing is crazy it added 50 yards to my drive by lowering my insane high launch to a mid launch with a bite more spine because I took a regular shaft with a 9.5 in a 75 gram version.
now if I could do it again I would have got a 10.5 stiff but that's not the clubs fault. Anyway I had previously owned a knock-off of the cgb max and man that thing launched it high and it was inaccurate I like the launch of this thing but its a tad low and I like to be able to customize it.
I would also recommend if you plan on getting it to go to this website : stealgolf.com

I have tried them all but this thing rises above all. I would recommend the non tp version to any inconsistent golfer because you can go to the driving range and change the weight arrangement before you play

This club was an excellent purchase. I got it for just about $150 of ebay and absolutely love it. I have a stiff shaft and 10.5 degree, and my driving distance and accuracy has improved like crazy!

This club is great! I have used it for a few rounds and I am already hitting the ball consistently further. This driver is great for any golfer one any skill level as it is not overly large making it easy to hit and very workable. I would highly recommend this club to anyone looking to take the next step in their golf game by finding more fairways and hitting the ball further consistently.

WoW! One word says everything. Bought a used R7 425 last night and casually hit a couple of balls at the range. Trust me I have never hit so straight continuously in my entire 1.5 years playing golf until I tried this driver. Easily hitting 200m effortlessly. Confident that if I squeeze a little bit more juice, I can hit 220m or more. Hopefully Taylor Made include a similar 425cc driver in their future product lines. Highly recommended!!!

I am a beginning golfer. I recently bought this driver used, because I could not hit the 9 degree warbird I had. To be more specific, I did not even keep a driver in my bag earlier this season. I have had this driver for about a month. At first, I couldn't hit it, but kept on trying. Yesterday, I out drove my regular golf partner (12 handicap) 4 times!!! This driver is amazing and straight once I learned how to swing correctly. For those with mid to low handicaps. I think this club would work for them, because when I am at the range with my friends who are low to mid handicaps, they just murder the ball with this driver. They only hit it a few times, because they even admit that they don't want to start liking it too much, because their drivers have been solid this season. But they also love it.
Just a note, I have it set to neutral, when I learn a little more about fades/draws etc... I may mess with the weights.

This is one of the best drivers I have ever used, if not the best. I recently went though the process of buying a new driver. I demoed 6 or 7 and bought and returned 4. I had tried Cobra, Titleist (which was a close second), mizuno, nickent, the R7 quad, Nike (least favorite next to Cobra because of the sound) and Ping. I was fed up while playing with my Mizuno in Florida this spring, so I tried out my brothers new R7 460. I loved this driver too. I knew it was the one for me. I could shape the ball better, as well as control the trajectory quite well. I went to buy one of these, but then the man helping me suggested I try out the 425 instead. I'm glad I did. I love this driver. I have it set on high launch, because I naturally hit the ball low. I have a 10.5 degree head with a stiff Fujikura. Best driver out there for the value, like it more than the new taylor made models.

Customer Service

Have had no problems with the club, but I hear that taylor made has excellent customer service.

wow this driver is great. i used to hit a king cobra but its not even close to the 425 r7. i swing a little harder then most so spent the money to get it reshafted. with the stiffer shaft i hit about 300 to 310 with a slight fade. if i lay off it i usually hit a nice draw. best driver i have ever hit.

Model Reviewed: Taylormade R7 425 TP 9.5* Stiff

Shiz man. Bought this driver off eBay the other day for $125 slightly used, and all I can say is wow. I'm not much of a distance driver, more control, but I still nailed this thing 295 with a slight fade my first time ever touching the thing. I have never done that before. I've gone through many drivers throughout my life, but I am definitely sticking with this one until I find something better. So I think I'll have it till I die. If you like both distance and control, (which I'm guessing most people do...) buy this beast. You will not be disappointed.

Customer Service

Never needed, Taylormade is quality shiz.
