The R7 425 is the best Taylormade driver since the 510TP. If you are a consistent player consider the heavy weights in the heel and tow. It gives a real piercing flight and very good control. I think it sounds better too. The reax shaft seems pretty good for stock. I have many drivers and this is one of the best. Can't go wrong for $199 new. I think the smaller head is easier to hit than 460cc. It seems to me that the 460cc heads give too much room and create lazy swing habits and you get weird misses all over the big face. I just seem to make center comtact more with the 425cc head. The manufacturers ought to come out with more club options around this size. Most 460cc drivers are just overkill. Buy the 425 if you are considering. If your swing speed is very fast you may need an aftermarket shaft. For high 90s and less you should be ok.

Every review of a driver that I seen says the same thing - "With this driver I can drive the ball over 300 yards." Distance is great but what I am looking for is consistency and the ability to hit the ball straight. I only got serious about golf last year. I bought a complete set of clubs, including drivers, to start my journey. By the end of the year, friends would let me try their clubs and I could feel the difference.

This year GolfTown had the TaylorMade R7 Quad 425 on sale for $200. Given that these clubs were $400 a couple of years ago and that a good friend loved his, I bit the bullet and bought one.

So far this seems to be one of the best decisions I have made. For my level of competition, I consistently hit the ball straighter and with more control. I cannot hit the ball as far as I can with my Nikent 3DX Square driver when I am hitting it well but since I have had this driver it has become my most consistent club.

Currently I have it in the standard configuration and I have had no real need to change weights.

I believe this driver was a great club when it first came out. Even being a couple of generations behind it is still a great driver. At $200 there isn't any reason not to get one.

Customer Service

I do wish the website or the documentation better explained the weighting system. A video actually demonstration this part of the system would have been most welcome.

Great club - I have the weights set with a slight draw, very comfortable driver. This club will instill trust back into your game. Very forgiving, I tend to really get into hitting my driver big, my bad drives are drives that other would love to have. I highly recommend this driver to those looking for a forgiving driver.

well the numbers dont lie. 371 carry on the monitor works for me. This club is tight on the dispersion when i swing about normal speed (i dont like to overdo it with the drives) but when i need to lay into one, this club agrees with me. Feels great looks great t is great enough said

great feel off the face. I first had some trouble getting the club up in the air with the stiff flex and didnt touch the club for a couple months. When i had some more power later in the season i hit the club with great control. It doesnt sit closed which is a big plus for me becuase it seems like all the drivers i try out go too far left and are made for chops. This was a players driver and i liked it alot. (the club seems to be more dead off the toe than off the heel, good for drawers of the golf ball)

The club I purchased was totally stock. It has 8.5 degrees of loft. The shaft is the 65 RE-AX stiff flex. Young strong guys will find this shaft a bit whippy, but it's perfect for me. I'm 50.

It took me a 9-holes to fine tune the weighting system. I was very impressed at this aspect of the club. I settled on no bias and a high center of gravity. I could really tell a big difference in launch angle when I moved the weights forward. What a fantastic option.

I also switched balls from the Pro-V1 to the Pro-V1X.

This club is super solid. It has a geat sound and it's very easy to determine where on the face contact was made. That's a big deal to me. I hate drivers that are over forgiving. This club gives me the high boring ball flight I demand.

It's much more forgiving than my current driver. It's also comfortably 10 yards longer and much straigher.

I've been using a Titleist 983E driver. I have three of them with various set-ups. The Titleist 905R and D2 could not stand up against the Big E. It really wasn't a fair fight. The lastest Titleist drivers have been real stinkers. It's hard for me to say that since I've used them for more than a decade, but they have clearly lost their edge.

The Cleveland High Bore came close, but no cigar. The 983E is a somewhat dated club, but I find few of the modern drivers can out perform it, but the R7 threw it down hard. I am so impressed with this club.

I tried so many drivers, include new Taylor Made Burner, 460, Calloway FT-5 etc. This is the best one for me. Straight, straight, straight. Not surprised distance, but I can recover from fairway easily. Also cost is cheap now.

This is a good driver that I bought off ebay for $100. Definitely worth the money would recommend it. Have the weights set to normal and I hit it straight compared to my mega slice I used to hit with my callaway great big bertha 2.

Model Reviewed: TaylorMade R7 425 driver

Bought this from ebay for US$78 while the wife wasn't watching. I am 6' 3" tall and my swing is a little brisk at the turn-around and slightly upright thus normally producing a fade with clubs over 40" long.

By adjusting the weights on this club for maximum draw I manage to hit long enough and land on the fairway more often than with any other driver I own. (I have 7)

Distance and accuracy depend on who is holding the club I guess, but as a pretty average player I find this club easy to use. You can still fade when you want to.

I tried the larger and more expensive SuperQuad 460cc but it's a bit of a bomber. Hits straight and as long but less control. The R7 425cc makes more sense.

I say I hit in the 90s but I am saving a few shots with this driver and now generally end up in the high eighties.

Hope this helps :-)

What a great club, having struggled for years with a callaway vft hawkeye driver this driver is a god send. With a stiff shaft and the weights set for a a slight draw this club suits me A1. I now have the confidence to use this club on every hole as i am hitting hit straight and long, average 300 yards!!!!!! This club is a must.
