Finally got to try this driver. I've been using an r5 for several months, and bought an r7 on a whim just to see if all the hype was true. I'll keep it simple: My swing is inconsistent, and even though I am young and can hit the ball a mile, I need the forgiveness afforded by the r5 as opposed to the r7. With the r7 it was much harder for me to get the ball airbone into the nice high loft I prefer. When I hit the r7 dead center (1 out of 3 or 4 times) the ball would fly low, and go very far. But when I nail the r5 in the center the ball will FLY FOR MILES AND MILES on a nice high trajectory. Basically all of the reviews agree, and I have to agree with them, the r7 is NOT for the average golfer. Save yourself some money and MANY headaches, and buy a forgiving club like the r5 (which is staying in my bag, and the r7 going up on ebay), or the Callaway Big Bertha 454 (which I have yet to try, but I've heard a lot of good things).

Customer Service

Not too bad, but callaway is much better. Trust me, callaway golf has THE BEST customer service around.

Great product. Longer and more forgiving than original R7. I like the sound at impact as well. I did Compare with Ping G2 which is another great driver. G2 was a bit farther on average, but not as accurate and consistent (of course, for my swing).

Do not believe the hype. This is the most over rated driver ever to hit the market. I tested this club for a couple of rounds (set up for a draw configuration). Results: No draw (it did go reasonably straight though). No Distnace (This club is 20-30 yds shorter than my Ping G2). No feel (Absolutely no feel or feedback from the club, poor strikes, solid strikes all feel the same). In the past I have used the following TaylorMade products: XR-05, 510TP, RAC irons. All have been disappointing. They just don't feel solid or top quality like Titleist clubs I do have an old TaylorMade 200 series 4 wood. This is a brilliant club, possibly the best fairway wood ever made. TaylorMade should go back to making solid products like the 200 series and stop marketing gimmicks.

Model Reviewed: R7 Quad HT 9.5 Aldila NV65 S

This a very solid club. I like this newer version compared to the original R7 mainly due to the more shallow face. It sets up alot better at address and looks more like a Titleist pear shape, unlike the earlier deepfaced R7 that is just so overwhelming in size. It has a good sound and feel and the enhancements to the HT that have moved the weight back and lower do help with the trajectory. My 9.5 is basically now a 10* As far as the weights, if you are swinging consistently, the weights will make a difference in the ball flight. They have used scientific golfball hitting robots to proove this. That said, with an unsound swing with a poor swingpath and no square clubface will not be corrected by this club no matter the weight setup. It is relative to using a ProV1 golfball---unless you are hitting it solidly you will not gain anything from a premium ball, same thing applies here. This club is very forgiving and instills confidence at address. I currently use two drivers that I rotate, this and the Titleist 905T both with the exact same Aldila NV65 stiff green shaft - and this club feels longer and has a little better sound. Since I bought the two new drivers this year, I have been pacing off many drives to see what they are truly doing for my length. I normally hit drives from 245-255 with a fade with my 905T and I have been hitting this one consistently at 245-265 very straight, sometimes with a slight draw. remember the shaft is the engine for these expensive heads, test them all first. I have tested all the new drivers including the original R7 and TP models and the R7 HT and Titleist 905 are far and above all in forgiveness. I will admit the G2 was definitely the longest..it almost seemed illegal, I hit it the furthest every time, but it was a little harder to control.

Model Reviewed: TaylorMade R7 HT 10.5 Stock Shaft Stiff

Recently purchased the R7 HT 10.5 with the stock MAS-2 55gram shaft. I went with this model over the original R7 mainly due to the shaft, which has a softer tip and medium torque. My average drives are in the 240 to 250 range, and I don't believe this changed much with this driver. However, this is one of the few oversized drivers that seems to set up square, as opposed to closed, and it has a clean look to it. I also like that it is 400cc, which is more than enough. I owned a couple of the latest 460cc drivers, and they just seem a bit too big to me. I am looking forward to grooving a consistent shot pattern with this club to experiment with the weights to see if they will really help.

Model Reviewed: Taylor Made R7 Quad HT

After a week of testing a new driver I believe this is the best one available for me (and maybe you). I tried the new Titleist 905T (all shafts) The Cobra 460 and the new Cleveland Comp 460. The Ping G2 and a few others. This Taylor made HT is a fantastic golf club. I like the shaft (stiff but has a soft tip) which allows me to launch the ball on a really good trajectory with a lot of carry. The adjustable weights make a huge difference in performance. If I have a neutral faced driver I tend to hit a fade...so I can easily counter act this and set the driver up for a nice high draw. It really works. My advice is to try as many different shaft options as possible before you shell out $ for a club. This is the most consistent performing driver (of the one's on the market today) that I've been able to find. The price can be too high so I cut the value rating down a bit but I would always pay more for the right club instead of saving a few bucks on a club that doesn't fit my swing perfectly.

Many of these reviews have just been bashing this club. and if you look at them, most of them are from higher handicappers. the weights are not a gimmic, they really do work...if your swing is technologically sound, and if it is the exact same every time. the weights are not meant to cure your slice or hook, if that is your problem, the only thing that will fix it is a coach/lesson. so back to the review: this driver is awesome, a vast improvement from the r7 quad. I have hit every one of the good drivers on the market right now, and this is by far the best, it has a great size, and i love the look of it. I ordered it in 8.5 with an extra stiff NV. The 2 things to remember: this will not cure your swing flaws, and dont play with the wieghts too much, because you will start to chang your swing.

Customer Service

taylormade's customer service is by far the best in the business. I have had problems with 2 of their products, and they have taken them back and given me a replacement that is the newest thing they have. I returned a 580xd, and they gave me an r5, i returned a bag, and they have me the newest bag. simply great

Really wanted to like this driver. I bought two of them used in the same 10.5 degree loft but with two different kickpoint shafts. Just no "pop" off the clubface and trajectory was mid-level at best. The face is generally forgiving, I'll give it that, but the distance lacks over the Cleveland Launcher I use and even the KZG Gemini that is a moderate length driver itself. Taylor Made has an interesting idea and if the plan is to find more fairways, I think this driver works. However, I didn't find it to be any higher trajectory than the original quad nor does the lack of length off the tee make it attractive to a shorter hitter like myself. Solid Club, good innovation, just not the driver for a mid-handicap person like myself. There are better drivers out there for us.

Let me say that this driver is very easy to hit. I have not had a single problem hitting the sweet spot time after time. The shaft is very light and even in stiff feels pretty whippy with the soft tip. The ball does gets launched very high even with a 9.5*. Just as long as anything out there but with the ability to change the set-up based on your preference. I really like the club but may need to change the shaft to a mid kick to get a little better control.
