A NOTE ABOUT R7 REVIEWS BELOW: First I’d like to say that the poor R7 reviews below, MUST be talking about last years R7 model, because after my experience with the TaylorMade (TM) R7 HT, yes *HT* model; I can only say that the poor R7 reviews below in NO WAY reflect my personal experience with the R7 HT. Neither do they mesh with the plethora of reviews I have read in the golf magazines. Curious, several of those magazines and reviewers choose the R7 HT as their winner of many models reviewed for 2005. On to my summery report of the TM R7 HT: As stated above I was surprised by any negative comments here after hitting the R7 HT. I hit shots with my old Callaway BB, and then the R7 HT. I kept alternating every few shots, and the results were amazing. The R7 HT consistently did two things for me: 1) MUCH longer, and 2) Much straighter. Overall I have to agree with others that have stated its forgiving nature. I just love the way this club launches the ball. I was still able to fade or draw with the default weight setup. I was able to pick out a spot and land ball after ball in a given area. This acute accuracy just was not happening with my other drivers. I MUST conclude that the R7 HT was the difference. I got the club used on EBay for $300 delivered, hence my value rating. This will be the driver in my bag for years to come. I just cannot fathom using anything else now. Wow!

Well not only do they charge you 500 dollars for this, they dont even tell you that it weights twice as much as any other driver you can find. Which really kills your swing speed. Everyone, except for maybe one person i have talked to has lost distance with this over priced piece of titanium. I also wish taylormade put a better grip on their clubs, they always seem to slip on anything except a when you hit the spot.

This driver is segmented towards mid-to-high handicappers. Can it really give you the advantage with a higher spin rate and wider hitting surface? It depends on whether you have a sound swing or not. Think about it - mid-to-high handicappers usually have a problem of hitting outside in since a lot of upper body is used especially on the downswing - instead of lowerbody. The ballflight usually starts on the left and then go way right(a slice). With the high spin and more distance - you will find your ball further right - it actually exacerbates your swing! Hence, if you want to get the driver, fix the swing first by coming in inside-and-square to the target, then you can really release the "monster" in this driver -well, any competitive driver. Some of you might be wondering about the weight cartridges - I own the regular Taylor Made Quad r7 (not this version - HT) and I tell you - you could set the weight so the driver will produce a high draw, but the outside-in swing will offset this driver's draw setup that it won't help you at all - you will still slice the ball. What I find with these new breed of drivers is - use high tees (seriously), the lower you tee the ball, the easier it is to slice the ball ( I can't speak for lower handicappers). You can ignore the ratings - I don't own this driver but the regular Quad R7.

Model Reviewed: Taylor Made R7 Quad HT 10.5 Regular

After switched from 580XD to R7 Quad 9.5, I have better control of my tee shot due to the 6 differnt combinations . However, the ball frieght seems to be a bit too low. As soon as I saw the HT version came up, I switched to it right away and immediately notice the big differences. Of course, I also change from 9.5 to 10.5. The original R7 Quad have a high kick point shaft also made the ball flights lower. With my swing speed of low 90s, the HT version stock shaft of mid torque and soft tip feel more relex to swing. The face feel thiner than the original R7 and sound different too. Overall, a great club to own. Since I am still taking lessons to fix my swing, this club provided me a quick fix temporary. Worth the money!
