I have tried a number of drivers lately and this one seemed to suit my swing the best. I have been struggling to hit drives over 200 yards--I can hit a 3 iron just as far, usually. This club has been a major improvement. I have been hitting the ball longer and straighter--usually around 250 yards and my swing speed is very average. I have been more consistent, too. I don't know what is different about it--it just feels good and the ball goes long and straight.

Best driver on the market. I've tried others like Taylor Made and Calloway...Deep Red beats them all. For distance and straight shooting...Wilson has a real winner here. I own the Fat Shaft Irons, as well, and with Deep Red now in the bag...my scores are going down.

Tried it out at the local range and was immediately impressed by its accuracy (believe me, it's no small task for me to hit a driver straight).

Yesterday, I was fortunate enough to play at Bethpage's 'Black' course (site of the 2002 U.S. Open) and tested out the Deep Red on the course. As those of you who have played the course, the numerous 400+ yards par 4s and fairway bunkers requires long and accurate drives. Being a fairly short hitter, the club worked wonderfully and provided me much better chances to reach those par 4s in regulation. Do note that the trajectory of the Deep Red tend to be high.

Similar to most drivers out there, I think the club is a bit pricey.

I should have gone to a longer range ! The first ball I hit pitched at 250 yds (the range limit) dead straight. This is definitely the best driver I've ever hit (for me) and believe me I've tried a few in search of the Holy Grail of straight and long. Deep Red also seems to be pretty forgiving, with any poor shots (less than 5%) seeming to produce a push rather than a slice (maybe due to the slightly closed clubface).Great noise and feel as the ball comes off the face. The club feels very stable and somehow the fat shaft seems to encourage a smooth controlled takeaway. This is also a great looking club !! If you're in the market for a new driver, try this one first. Most of you won't need to look any further.

This club is magnificent! It's color is fantastic, it sets up perfectly at address, and gives a beautiful ball flight.

This club truly inspires confidence because of its second-to-none accuracy that puts the ball exactly where you want it. It sounds awesome, with a delightful "swish" on the back swing and a crisp "ping" at contact.

I had the Mizuno T-Zoid before, but it does not compare the the consistency and accuracy you will get with this club.

Wilson has created a gem.

Model Reviewed: 7.5 Tour Shaft

Let me start by saying when I bought this I had doubts whether I could hit a 7.5 degree driver with a tour stiff shaft, but this is the nicest setup I have ever had for trajectory and feel. Don't be afraid to try the 7.5 if you have the opportunity. The Fat Shaft - finally a graphite shaft that feels like steel! This is a club that is consistent and long without being too punishing if you miss the center of the club face. I have tried several other clubs side by side, but always leave feeling the WDR is the most playable. The club has a beautiful paint job that, unlike others (Mizuno Forged, for example), can rebound from a scuffed shot or two. I hope that Wilson's fairway woods are just as successful and show the public that there are other options beyond Titleist, Callaway, etc. Not that those aren't great clubs, but Wilson has a legitimate contender here that should earn them some great respect.

WOW! This driver is for me. In a side by side comparison the WDR easily was more consistent than the others. It was just as long at least as the other ones I tested. I couldn't tell you how long because I couldn't see that far!

It is true that it lacks some of the feel the others have but it more than makes up for it in accuracy. And after all isn't that what it is all about?

The other guys may have more name clout than Wilson but I'll take consistency and forgiveness any day of the week--plus I'll have some money left over!

I have submitted several reviews on this club, if you'll look below, and this is really not a review.

Since I absolutely love my WDR, I contacted Wilson to see when the WDR Fairway Woods would be available. This is the response I received from them:

"Wilson is pleased to announce that the development of the Deep Red Fairway Woods is complete. After extensive consumer and mechanical testing, Wilson
has designed a line of Deep Red Fairway Woods that will equal performance of the Deep Red Driver.

The Deep Red Fairway Woods will be available in a 3, 5, 7 and 9 wood with the following specs:

3 wood - 15 degree loft, 43" long, right and left hand

5 wood - 18 degree loft, 42" long, right and left hand

7 wood - 21 degree loft, 41.5" long, right and left hand

9 wood - 25 degree loft, 41" long, right hand only

All above fairway woods are available in lite, regular, stiff and extra stiff flex options. The suggested retail price for each is $199.00.

You can expect to find them in stores around September 15, 2001."

I don't know about anybody else, but I can't wait to get my hands on a WDR 3 wood and 5 wood!

Anyway, I just thought some of you folks, who liked the driver, might be interested in the above information.

After wining several comps at my local club and subsequently loosing confidence in my old Callaway Warbird, I felt it was time to update my driver. I went to the range and tried the clubs mentioned above.
The Titleist was probably the longest of the 5 but I found it difficult to control. The Adams ST felt very heavy and the head design was not to my liking. Taylormade 320 was very good in terms of distance and forgiveness, but in comparison to the Wilson was not worth the extra money. Callaway hit the drives very hit (similar problem with my old Warbird) no matter how low I placed the ball.
The Wilson felt right from the moment I picked it up. Drives on the range were longer than my Warbird and much more forgiving.

Having now played several rounds with the driver I can say that the results are very pleasing. I would not say I'm hitting more fairways than before, but I'm certainly hitting it longer (anywhere between 250 and 300 depending on my swing and the conditions - the fairways at my course can be soft one week and rock solid the next) and my confidence off the tee has increased. The added distance has made several come into range so I need to work on my accuracy and improve my strategic play (i.e. not reach automatically for the driver at every long hole).

Overall the club has more than satisfied my needs. It looks fantastic, plays well for my swing, was good value for money, and is more forgiving + longer than my old Callaway.

I submitted a review about this club several weeks ago, but I just couldn't help myself, and I am gonna submit another.

The more I play with this club the more I love it! As I get more confidence with it, I hit it longer, and I keep finding the fairway! Last night in league I recorded drives of 335, 320, 315, and 330... and the 320 yard drive was into a 10 mph headwind!... I only used the WDR on 4 holes because the last time I was out at this particular course I kept driving the ball through doglegs 300+ yards out.

Two weeks ago I was playing in a 3-Man Scramble. On the final hole, a 380 yard par 4, with an elevated tee, I hit my tee shot pin high with my new WDR!

I absolutely love this club. Right now I am hitting knock-down sand wedges into 400 yard par 4's and hitting 5, 6, 7, and even 8 irons into 500+ yard par 5's. I am literally overpowering golf courses with this thing. My handicap has dropped 2 strokes in the last month and I broke par for the first time in about 4 years! The only thing I have changed in the last 4 years is my driver... so I have to credit my new WDR!

People who say the WDR isn't as long as some other drivers are waaaaaay off the mark. Either they aren't catching this club in the sweet spot or they are swinging one with the wrong flex shaft for them. I have always hit the ball fairly long. With my previous driver (A Callaway Pro Series Titanium), I averaged around 270, but had heck of a time finding the fairway. With my new WDR, I am routinely hitting the ball 300+ yards, and I am not even trying to "kill" the ball. That is with a nice smooth swing. When I go after one.... I absolutely kill it!

All I can say is if you haven't tried a WDR, you gotta take one out to your local driving range. I guarentee it will be love at first swing!

Customer Service

Liquidgolf.com customer service has to be one of the best in the business. Very easy to work with. One bad thing... they are a little slow getting things shipped. But, if you complain, they will give you a gift certificate... at least they did for me.
