Tried it out as a Demo, and I am shocked to say that Wilson actually has something here! Good solid trajectory, plenty of distance, very accurate, beautiful appearance at address, forgiving enough for most people-
(Divine intervention after all, is not found in a Golf Club). Perhaps the "sleeper" of this years releases of Premium drivers This is an all around soild stick. It may not be the longest, but when you look at things from an over all package stand point it is a clear winner over many of the other, over-hyped drivers from other names. Most surprising for me is that with the stock stiff shaft I could put it in my bag and just go play. Usually I need to have a Prolite 35 or other "upgraded" shaft to be installed to meet my demands/needs. If shopping for a new stick this one is a must try. As is the case with all of the latest drivers, (Except the Mizuno Forged), they are priced a bit higher than they should be.

For someone who slices the ball this club seems to correct that problem quite well. My distance off the tee has increased by 10 to 20 yards.

I tried the Deep Red at the range today. This is an absolutely awsome driver! Every shot was straight and long. The shots did seem to be very high which could cause some problems in windy conditions. The owner from the range came and asked why I was driving his golf balls over the fence (265+yards and rising as they went over). People on two sides of me were astounded by the impact sound. I'm so impressed that the club is now found a home in my bag and I can hardly wait to take it to the course! Wilson has definetly found a winning formula with the fat stiff shafted Deep Red!

I have an overpowering swing and this club is not for me. The shaft is just too wimpie. Nice club with clasic design if you have an average swing you'll love it, but if you want the best get the tisi ping you'll ask yourself why you ever used any other driver. Overall a good club for the average player with a bit high msrp price tag.

Tried out the Deep Red and found it to be a nice feeling club. I like the feel from the head when hitting the ball.

Usually I play with Regular shafts, however this one felt i little to soft. Swinging at my regular speed I had a tendency to fade/slice the ball. Slowing down the swing I hit the ball with a perfect draw. Maybe the shaft stiffness classification is a little bit off!? Will try a Deep Red with a stiff shaft.

Model Reviewed: Wilson Deep Red 9* Stiff

This is a great club, but don't buy into the hype and expect to hit 275-yard drives right down the middle every time. There is no magic club that will do that if you have a less than perfect swing. What this club does and does well is hit the ball long and fairly straight.

My current driver is a Taylor Made SuperSteel 250 8.5* Stiff graphite at 44.5”. I don’t have a great swing and usually put this club about 240-250 yards and about 10-15 yards right of my target due to my fade. Other clubs like the 975D might go longer, but turn my fade into a slice and I can’t have that. I bought the Deep Red in hopes it would give me the distances of the 975D, but with the forgiveness of my SuperSteel. The Deep Red didn’t do as well as I had hoped right out of the box. It was longer, about 255-265 on average, but was going a little more right, about 15-20 yards right due to my fade. That extra 5-10 yards right took me off the fairway and into the rough, which I did not want. Plus I noticed that the ball went higher than I expected. I bought the 9* version, but it was playing more like a 10* driver. After my first 18-holes with the club, I was starting to question my purchase.

I went home after that round and made a few changes to the club. I trimmed off ½” to bring it down to 44.5” and put on my preferred grip. That really made a big difference. The next day at the driving range, it was just as straight as my SuperSteel was, but longer. It also was no longer going as high. When I trimmed it, the kickpoint must have changed and that has produced a lower ball flight, which I like. It’s hard to judge exact distances on the range, but it was going longer that my SuperSteel, but no farther to the right anymore.

Another thing I like about this club is how it feels. I don’t like large heads. I prefer a driver with a head size of 250-280 and the Deep Red is 305. However, it feels like a smaller head, which I really like. I found my new driver and am very happy with it!

The one downside to this club is it is still a bit pricey. This would be a good buy at around $250, but at almost $400, it’s not so hot. I would personally recommend people spend the $180 on the Taylor Made SuperSteel and spend the rest on lessons. However, if you must spend $350+ on a driver, this is a very good one for those of us will less then perfect swings. Demo it before you buy though.

Model Reviewed: Deep Red 10.5 regular shaft

Recently tried the new Taylor Made 300 series during a demo at my club. The next day they had the Wilson Deep Red. With all the hype with the Taylor Made's I was ready to purchase one, until I tried the Deep Red. I went with actual results instead of the hype. I hit this club dead straight or with a slight high draw or fade on all my good swings. It looks great and has a solid feel to it. The results really suprised me since I never heard of this club before I used it. I usually used a 3-wood off the tee but the Deep Red gives me the consistency and confidence in a driver I was looking for.

Since I am so stupid that I can't spell "somewhere" see immediately preceding review "Some Whare", and my vocabulary only extends to "it sucked" I felt I should resubmit my review with higher ratings.

P.S. I hope to make my money hustling people a little less intelligent than myself at golf since I am a "scratch golfer".

The Wilson Deep Red driver is an excellent club. As other reviewers have mentioned, if you have been measured up to use a regular flex shaft, go with the stiff flex. Recently purchased the 9 Deg. stiff and have noticed I am driving the ball straigter and further than ever before. It is in the depths of winter here and we are not getting any roll however with the WDR I am regularly driving the ball past where I normal finish with roll in the summer. Overall, the WDR is a beautiful club to look at, the ball screams off the club face and remains accurate even on miss hits. I would recommend this driver to anyone who wants extra distance and also likes to play their second shot from the fairway.
