Zero Tolerance Crown Jewel Maxima 300 Drivers

Zero Tolerance Crown Jewel Maxima 300 Drivers

DESCRIPTION

This attractive club promotes a sense of confidence at address. It produces a higher ball trajectory than Spectra and has a long ball flight. At impact the feel produced is soft and solid, with a clear high pitch sound. The head size is perfect for those looking for a club with a large sweet spot without the large appearance at address.

Club set up: Graffaloy Prolite 45, R-flex, pured by golfsmith. 10*, 1 degree closed face

Feel: VERY solid, a little nuted compared to my od KZG MP, but solid none the less. The report at impact is nice and reassuring. Easy to tell where you are at on the club face.

Forgiveness: Here is where I found it to shine. Mis hits were punished on length on all but the worse swings. The ball tends to go where you aim it. The combination of loft and face angle really helped to reduce ugly power fades into conrolled fades.

Length: The club/shaft combo really rewards a nice smooth cut at the ball. Just take here back, and let the club do all the work. Distance was great 275-285 yds. were common on the course. One hoel playing 410 that day left me with 90 yd. shot the the middle of the green. By far the best rive I have hit this season.

Overall impression: I hit the Maxima along side the new KZG PFT, and found the Maxima to be the intial winner, it just seemed to be more consistent. Cmpared to oferings from Ping, Callway, etc I cant see where you can wrong with this club. The money saved will allow me to soend it on quality instruction and time on the course. This is a real winner.

Model Reviewed: REVISED Maxima 300

Review on the revised Maxima 300
Facts on me:
Handicap – 10.1
Age – 29
Weight – 185
Height – 5’ 9”
Swing Tendencies – Play the straight ball, but usually can fade the ball on command. Can only hit a draw about 20% of the times I try. When I miss though, it is usually big ugly hooks undoubted caused by the over the top swing or blocks caused by severe lack of timing. Driving is one of the strong parts of my game.
Swing Speed – Average of 107mph, but the last time I checked it varied from 102-118 in 20 swings.

Specs – 8* Maxima with ZT Power 65 Stiff Shaft at 45” with 1* Closed face

Appearance – The Maxima is a great looking club as I stated before. The look did not need to be changed from the original version and they haven’t. Metallic blue club head with a silver face. Club head is a very comfortable looking 300cc.

Performance – I have played 3 rounds and had two practice sessions with the revised Maxima 300. I am not sure of all of changes John at ZT made to the club, but I can say that I like everything he has done. I do know that he has re-weighted the head so that it was a few grams heavier and it really does seem to make a lot of difference on tracking the club throughout the swing. I am pleasantly surprised with how much better the new version performs in my hands. This is a very long club and the Power 65 shaft seems to really compliment the club head. Shots spring off the face with a hot mid trajectory that really hits the ground running. I have also found this club to be very easy to work right or left, yet very forgiving. I’m not sure how the club accomplishes this as I thought those two items were pretty much mutually exclusive. Off center shots hold their line very well and have minimal negative impact on direction and distance. To test the Maxima’s revisions a friend(7.2 index, 110 mph swing speed) and I tested it head to head with the original Maxima test model. The old Maxima had a UST PF 65S at 7*. We both found the new Maxima easier to control and work the ball in attempted draws or fades. The new Maxima was also slightly longer and more forgiving.

Feel – The Maxima has a very muted feel on well struck shots. Off center hits are not harsh but are easily apparent even without watching the ball. The sound is very quite for a titanium driver.

Summary – This driver has replaced what I thought was an un-replaceable driver as my first choice. This club is a true bargain when compared with the other OEM drivers on the market. A great design and very beautiful club that should be considered by all levels of players. John at ZT has perfected the design with his refinements and in my opinion there is absolutely nothing else that needs to be changed about this club.

Specifications:

.5 degrees closed (face angle)
bulge & roll: 9" x 8"
assembled with Penley Tour Light R-flex @ 45 inches, D-4 swing weight & Golf Pride Players Softie grip.

This is my review of the Maxima 300 head that I received from ZT Golf where the material for the face plate of the club head is different from the original Maxima 300 that I reviewed a while back.
Namely, the difference between the original Maxima 300 and the New is that the original has a Beta Titanium forged face, and the new Maxima 300 has a forged 6AL4-V face.

The difference in driving distance between these identical club heads was noticeable. While the original 300 had a more softer and muted sound at impact, which I really liked, the newer 300 has a higher pitched "crack" resonance upon impact. Not that I enjoyed the higher pitched sound per se, but I did enjoy the added distance that I got with the newer Maxima 300. On a side-by-side comparison at the range and on the course, I have noticed a noticeable gain of 6 to 8 yards per drive with the newer Maxima 300. Granted, this is in no way an accurately measurable way to determine that it's the club head that is attributable to the increased gain in my driver distance , as each club has a different shaft attached to them. I have spoken to John Lee at ZT Golf and he has also personally noticed a distance gain with the newer Maxima 300 head based upon his test results.

In summary, while I prefer the softer, muted sound of the original Maxima 300, I certainly prefer the added distance in my drives with the newer Maxima 300 in spite of its higher pitched sound.

As for workability and ball flight characteristics with the drivers - both original and new, no noticeable changes to write about, as both clubheads have the exact same specs and dimensions, save for the head weights - the original is at 193 grams and the new at 198 grams.

I have been able hit consistently straight drives with the Maxima 300, something I have not been able to do even with much more expensive name brand drivers.

This driver is a winner in my book.

Customer Service

John Lee at ZT Golf is a champion to golfers of all playing levels. He is very responsive to his customers and listens intently to what they have to say about what they are looking for in a club. He bases much of the design characteristics and performance attributes of his clubs based on his customers' input and feedback. Thus, he produces some of the best performing, best feeling, and best looking clubs that challenge major companies that charge three times as much for drivers that can only equal what he offers from his line up. Another key attribute to his quality products is that he sticks to what he does best: designing and producing drivers that really perform, as his livlihood and the success of his company depends on it, not having much spending capital for much else (i.e. Marketing & Advertising expenditures)

Maxima 300 8.5*
ZT Power 65 stiff flex

This head-shaft combo is absolutely striking. The deep blue color scheme works very well together. When you have a club this beautiful, you just know you'll have to work your swing until you can hit it well, no matter what.

PERFORMANCE:
Distance is average, but it is fairly forgiving. Balls want to go straight off the face. Trajectory is a little higher than most heads, but roll was not bad at all. Don't try to kill the balls with this head. Swing smooth, and SWOOSH... balls just fly off the face.

The head should be ideal for those looking for forgiveness in the driver that does not look overly large at address.

Review:

Appearance: This is a beautiful head with a deep blue finish. I really like the brushed metal around the toe. The fit and finish are fabulous

Distance: Long but not huge. The 300cc head is easy to hit, but the ball doesn't BOING off the face like the big heads.

Playability/Control/Workability: The 300cc head with square face and lower COG made for a neutral club. Although not as easy-swinging as others I have tried, it is workable and playable. This is not one for a poor ball-striker. You need to a decent striker to make this club do its thing. When the swing is smooth, but aggressive this head is terrific.

Ball Flight: This was an 8* head with a mid-high kick Penley G2 stiff shaft. My ball flight was moderate and boring. No ballooning with this combo at all.

Feel: Very similar to my 975D. SOLID! I like the feel very much.

Summary: Very nice stick. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone over an 18 index, but for a 5 to 15 solid ball-striker this is deluxe. Another winner from ZT.

Specs: 8* maxima 300, tag specs; 7.5* 1* closed 194 grms. Penley tour light shaft reg flex tipped firm, lamkin sof-wrap grip, length 45.5 D1.

Appearance: As previous reviews have stated, this is a great looking head. I don't think any other club is going to beat this one in this regard. I loved the size at 300cc not too big looking at address, nice pear shape. Very classy directional marking on top.

Performance: I found this club very easy to work shots particularily draws possibly from the closed face. Distance was very good when hitting it on the sweet spot. Mishits will probably cost you a good ten yrds, however not too punishing directionally. Sound is good solid, not too loud. Mishits are audible compared too a more solid sounding sweet spot hit. Nice medium trajectory. Only complaint was the head was a little light I probably would have liked to see it closer to 198 grms, however at 45.5 club is easy to swing.

Summary: Great looking head, very solid performance from ZT golf looking forward too trying the Maxima 360

I have the 11* Maxima 300 with an Inno-lite soft flex shaft at 43". At address I like the look of the club, and the feel on contact. As a 31 handicapper (with the intention of dropping a lot of strokes this summer), I was surprised at the height and distance I got out of the Maxima. I really expected to have a hard time hitting a driver with such a deep face, but that was not the case at all. At the present time, our course is quite wet, so there isn't much distance added by roll. With the Maxima, I had some of the longest drives I have ever hit (200-215yds). I can't wait to try it out on some summer fairways! When I made good contact, I couldn't have wished for anything straighter. Part of being a high handicapper is inconsistency, and I had my share of bad drives, but the bad ones were still long and in a decent recovery position.

I believe anyone of any handicap who wants added distance could benefit from the Maxima 300.

Model Reviewed: ZT Crown Jewel Maxima 300 9 degree

The CJ Maxima 300 has replaced my GBB without much fanfare.

Besides being a great looking club that draws many compliments from my buddies, it is a very forgiving club. Since the head feels lighter than my GBB, I had too smooth out my tempo but this is rewarded with great distance and control without the effort required previously.

The flight is mid trajectory with good roll, and the sound is not a regular titanium "crack", but somewaht softer that I feel gives me better feedback.

The 300 cc head is very deceiving as it does not look like it is any different than the old 260 cc clubs I used to play.

Overall the club is great and ZT quality is outstanding. It really makes me think that I did not need to waste all that $$ on OEM.

Good work, John!

Well, my testing period with the Zero Tolerance Maxima driver is complete and here's what I've found.
Specs:

Loft: 8.5*
Shaft: Power 65 R flex
Length: 44.5"
SW: D2

The head arrived nicely packaged and marked with all pertinant information. It's painted with a sharp dark blue color and has a pear shape. The Power 65 is coordinates well with the head, it is also a dark blue that fades to black at the tip with yellow lettering.

My first couple of sessions on the range with the Driver were a little disappointing. However, I felt that it was more a result of my swing than the club so I persevered and continued on with my testing. With a few more testing sessions at the range I've been able to get a good feel for the Maxima.

The driver has a medium to above medium trajectory, with a penetrating ball flight. The distance was pretty long using range balls. The sound generated sound slightly loud, but not "tinny" at all. I've also found that I don't need to tee the ball very high to get a good shot out of it. Another nice thing about this driver is that off-center hits are forgiving with pretty good distance. Shots with the Maxima and Power 65 shaft felt rather crisp, this is one nice shaft. The Power 65 didn't feel boardy at all.

I put the Maxima into my bag for my last round and was able to get some nice shots out of it. I'm going to leave it in for the next round and hope that it only gets better. I have it hand it to John at Zero Tolerance, he's turning out some excellent products.

I finally got the chance to play a couple of full rounds of golf with my new ZT Crown Jewel Maxima 300. After having had the chance to play a half dozen rounds previously with my ZT Crown Jewel Spectra, my original ecpectations for the smaller Maxima were low........because the head design didn't quite give me that "I can't miss" feeling of the Spectra. I was however, pleasantly surprised by the Maxima.
Basics:

Loft: 9 degrees
Shaft: Innovative Comp Tour Lite
Length: 46.5"
Flex: Stiff
Height: 6'-0"
Weight: 190
Index: 15
SS: 110+

Looks: Like many others have said, the head looks fantastic.

Feel: Great feel. I don't have the swingweight on this combo, but I can feel the club head through the swing and the impact is solid. Even though the head design is very close to the Biam CM, the Maxima is more solid and plays that way. I have played both during the same round, and even though my Maxima is 1.5" longer than my Biam, I quickly go back to the Maxima for the feel and confidence in my swing.

Playability: I found the Maxima to be easier to work the ball to both sides of the fairway when I wanted to than the Spectra. Maybe it's the shape of the head, or maybe I'm just playing better as the season progresses, but that's how it worked for me.

Distance: I thought for sure that I would not be hitting the Maxima as long as the Spectra, but I was wrong. Even though I haven't yet topped my longest Spectra drive at 330yds, I have had little trouble hitting the Maxima at 250+, with many closer to 300 than 250. I have found this head and shaft combo to be everything I wanted it to be.

Overall: Because of the combination of distance and control I experianced with the Maxima, I played my last two rounds at 83 and 80 ........hitting fairways and hitting long does wonders for the golf score.

Summary: After playing with both the Spectra and the Maxima, I sold off my two 975d's (along with a few others in my basement)........I didn't need them anymore as they did nothing more for me than my new ZT's were doing, and I was more consistent with my new drivers. Both the Spectra and Maxima will see the course all through the year. I can't wait to see how the Maxima 360 plays!
