Zero Tolerance Crown Jewel Maxima 300 Drivers

Zero Tolerance Crown Jewel Maxima 300 Drivers

DESCRIPTION

This attractive club promotes a sense of confidence at address. It produces a higher ball trajectory than Spectra and has a long ball flight. At impact the feel produced is soft and solid, with a clear high pitch sound. The head size is perfect for those looking for a club with a large sweet spot without the large appearance at address.

The ZT Maxima 300 is one of the best looking driver heads I have seen in a long time (since the 975D).The club I received from John at ZT was assembled without any flaws and the specs I ordered. The specs were:
8*,45", stiff ZT HP-200 midflex 80g shaft, Winn grip, D-5 swingweight

After 2 rounds and 3 range sessions, I found that the Maxima 300 was very good in distance and direction with solid contact. With not so good contact, the distance and direction suffered greatly. In comparison to the ZT Spectra, the Maxima 300 did not perform as well especially on heel and toe hits. The Spectra is one of the most forgiving drivers I have hit. The Maxima was longer on solid contact but the Spectra was long enough and distance and direction were not affected much. A poor swing produced shots off the world for both drivers. In comparison to the 975D, the Maxima 300 performed very closely in all aspects, distance ,direction, and forgiveness.

Setup: 9 degree, 1 degree closed face, ZT Pro 2.5 stiff flex shaft at 45 inches. I have an 18 handicap and an average driver swing speed of 98 MPH.

This is a beautiful club. The size, shape are perfect; not too large, not too small, inspiring confidence at setup. I especially liked the deep face of this driver. The fit and finish are first rate. The dark blue head and the dark grey shaft are a nice combination. Just looking at the club, you know it means business.

Performance: Smooth swings produced long, medium high drives, with moderate roll. Carry in the 230 - 240 yard range. I found it to be about the same or slightly shorter than the Spectra. My only criticism of the club is the light weight of the head. Although it feels very well balanced, the overall weight of the club is a little too light for me; less than perfect swings tended to fade right. However, a little lead tape on the heel solved this problem. John at ZT has told me new heads in this line will be heavier than the one I tested (195 grams).

Overall, I would heartily recommend this club. Another winner from John and ZT Golf.

John and ZT Golf are very courteous, responsive and helpful.

ZT Crown Jewel Maxima 300 Specs: 8* with UST Super 47 stiff flex shaft 45” My Specs:
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 270lbs
Age: 29
Hdcp: 15
Swing Speed:105-110 Looks: The Maxima 300 is a great looking club. I really like the dark blue color. Club sets up nice and square to the ball. Forgiveness: I tended to loose a little distance on toe and heel hits. Balls hit on the sweet spot flew long and straight. I couldn’t swing nearly as aggressively as I could with the Spectra. I found the CJ Spectra to be more forgiving. Distance/Trajectory: The Maxima 300 was about 10 yds shorter on avreage than the Spectra, The 8* Maxima did tend to have a higher less boring trajectory than the Spectra. Overall: The Maxima 300 is a very solid feeling driver, that looks great. I liked the CJ Spectra better, but I believe I have just gotten use to the 320cc plus drivers. For those looking for smaller driver this is one is worth a look.

I am a 12.2 handicap. First let me says this is one Beautiful club. Mine was 196 grams, 9*, with Zero Tolerance's Pro 2.5 shaft. Despite this club being 300cc, it doesn't look overly large. It still promotes alot of confidence with the size though. It is more traditional looking. This club is solid. It doesn't feel like other titanium drivers. Its sound is solid not a tink like others. It doesn't sound like it is going far, but the ball just keeps flying. It doesn't give me the same distance as my Crown Jewel Spectra. My spectra has the same shaft and shaft length (45") I don't seem to get the same amount of role with the maxima, but its not a huge difference. The one drawback with my club is that it is a little on the light side. Its only 196 grams. For me, it sometimes promotes an over the top swing. I understand that since then, other club heads are a little heavier. If you're looking for a larger head but still traditional in shape, this is the one for you.

Model Reviewed: CJ Maxima 300/Leyland UL Shaft

The Crown Jewel Maxima is one nice-looking driver! I assembled mine at 45" with a Leyland UL shaft at 45". The head is marked 10.5, but true loft is 9.5.
My primary driver is a CJ Spectra. It took me a little while to achieve good results with the Maxima--my first few times hitting the club I hit mostly moderate fades. After taking it to the range for an extended test, however, I was able to "dial in" and the results were quite positive. Feel is very good, and "pured" hits feel better and go farther than the Spectra. I am more consistent with the Spectra, however, perhaps because of the different shafts or because the Spectra is more lofted. Many of my friends have hit the Maxima and no one has had a negative thing to say.

ZT is very responsive.

Model Reviewed: Maxima 300 7* with UST PF65S

Facts on me:
Handicap – 11.8
Age – 29
Weight – 185
Height – 5’ 9”
Swing Tendencies – Play the straight ball, but usually can fade the ball on command. Can only hit a draw about 20% of the times I try. When I miss though, it is usually big ugly hooks undoubted caused by the over the top swing or blocks caused by severe lack of timing. Driving is one of the strong parts of my game.
Swing Speed – Average of 107mph, but the last time I checked it varied from 102-118 in 20 swings.

Specs – 7* Maxima with UST PF 65S Lamkin Mid-Size Cord Grip

Appearance – In my opinion, the Maxima is one of the best looking clubs on the market. Beautiful metallic blue finish and good head shape.

Performance – I have played 9 holes and been to the range three times using the Maxima. During this time I have discovered that the shaft/head combo on the Maxima just doesn’t work for me. I believe it mostly to be the shaft, but I’m guessing the low loft of the head contributes to the problem. I thought that perhaps I was just making bad swings, but a side by side comparison with my current driver showed that this was not the case. My current driver was long and straight. After adding lead tape to head and experimenting with proper amounts of weight to be added, I have been able to get the driver to above 50% fairway shots. However, less than good swings produce horrible results. Since low face lofts add more spin my mistakes are magnified. When it is hit perfectly though, WOW! I love the results it produces. Long, long, long with great roll.

After the previous ZT products I had used and the great reviews I had read on this driver from others, I was convinced it had to be the shaft that was causing the problems for me. To verify this, I let one of my regular playing partners use it. His swing speed is a little higher, he plays a draw, and he is a much better player. I can confidently report that he loves this driver and he hit a mile and straight as an arrow. The results that he produced were amazing. The ball flight was a perfect mid-high trajectory and very hot when it landed. He wanted to buy the driver from me that day and has sent me two emails trying to buy it since.

Feeling – The club felt more muted than the other similar products and the sound was definitely quieter. Well struck balls have the feeling of swinging through air, while off center hits provide good feedback.

Summary – Due to over estimation of my abilities, I tested this club in a manner that didn’t fit me. My next test will involve a club that is better suited for my game. After seeing my playing partners’ performance though, there is no doubt that ZT has another winner on its hands.

Here's another rave review of the Maxima 300! A beautiful looking head, deep blue, not too big at address. Mine's a 9.5*, 0.5* closed, 44" Inno Lite S flex. I took it to the range to compare with my current driver, a KZG MP 10.5*, 45" AJTech X335 R flex.
The winner hands down was the Maxima. Virtually all my shots were long, straight and consistent, which is great when you usually fight a slice like I do. The trajectory was generally a medium-high, boring flight. Mis-hits still went pretty straight, sometimes a bit right. Overall, this is the best driver I've hit to date, and it has definitely found a home in my bag! Highly recommended!

Model Reviewed: Crown Jewel Maxima 300

Club specs:

- 11* w/ 45" Innovative InnoLite R-flex (tip trimmed 1/2" to play @ 250 CPM) w/
Golf Pride Tour Wrap grip
- Head weight: 193 grams
- D1 Swingweight
- Face Angle: 1 deg. closed
- Bulge & Roll: 9" x 8"

Performance: Excellent. Pure driving excitement. The feeling & sound at impact was very pleasant, and the distance of the ball flight showed for it. For a large headed driver, the sound was very pleasing...I felt that my particular model had a lower metallic pitch than my Spectra.

At first, the relative lightness of the club head was a bit of a distraction, but once I got into a slow and deliberate swing groove, the lightness of the club actually helped increase my swing speed without the added effort. Once I changed to an ultra lightweight grip, the swing weight changed from a D1 to a D4 and the feeling of the club head was much more noticeable and preferable.

Working the ball both ways came quite naturally for me with this club, largely due to its tight bulge & roll dimension IMO. (old style persimmon headed drivers had tighter bulge & roll configurations which enabled the player to shape shots both ways much easier, producing the so called "gear effect"). This club reminded me of the old MacGregor persimmon drivers that I used to use. As for distance, I felt I could drive it equally far, if not farther than my Spectra. And as for forgiveness, contrary to what some others on this board may have written, I think it is very forgiving, perhaps even more so than the Spectra. I'm a natural low ball hitter, and by using the 11 degree driver, I was able hit some of the longest carrying drives to date. I have been using the Original Crown Jewel driver w/ the 10.5* loft before the Spectra & Maxima came along, and I loved that club's feel and performance. But, because of the inherent low COG design feature of the original CJ, I just could not get the trajectory up with it. What it lacked for height, however, it made up for it with a low, piercing, bullet-like trajectory with a ton of roll. With recent introductions of higher lofted drivers (such as the Maxima 300) that are quite forgiving and very easy to hit, ZT Golf has come through for me with flying colors with what I need in a driver.

This is a great club and has remained in my bag. I have a rather difficult time these days deciding between the Maxima 300 and the Spectra. I can't imagine the added dilemma when ZT Golf unveils another quality driver to its line up.

It is and will be a dilemma, but it's a nice one to have, for a change!

Customer Service

John at ZT Golf is wonderful to work with. He pays attention to what the customer is looking for in a club and responds in a very prompt and courteous manner, and ultimately delivers.

I hit my career drive with the Maxima 300 with the ZT.

The head, although 300cc's, looks smaller at address and is easy to look at. If you've been playing a traditional sized driver this club might make the transition to larger drivers an easy one.

Model Reviewed: 10 Degree Maxima

Club specs:
10 degrees w/ZT Power65 R flex shaft at 45"

Not flashy, but a real nice looking club; a nice deep blue paint with a bold gold character/alignment mark. And as true with other ZT woods, has tasteful sole graphics/design.

Just the right size for me (300cc's), not too big but big enough to instill confidence to go for it.

At first, I had trouble with it - couldnt hit it at all (mostly my fault, partly a bit too soft shaft), but after changing to a smoother swing I got real satisfying results. I cant say I was hitting it 300 yds like others (I'm only 5'4", 155 lbs., w/high 80's SS), but was consistently getting 235-240 with it (10-15 yds above my AVG, but consistency is what has my attention.)

The trajectory/ball flight is high and higher than what I'm used to even at 11 degrees, but it does not balloon. (I think some of it has to do with the shaft.) My suggestion would be to go at least one deg lower than one's usual loft with this driver.

One minor complaint: the feel is not up to par with my benchmark, KZG MP. It's just not very crip & lively, but I'm learning quickly to live with it as it consistently keeps me in the short grass.

Summary - in certain aspects, there are better clubs around (i.e., better looks, feel, sound, distance) but OVERALL, I find this club to be right up there. (I think a 9 deg w/different shaft might even net better results for me.)

The most telling thing I can say is that this driver is staying in the bag.
