I play the Steelhead 9 degree driver. When purchased I had them install a UST 65 shaft. I keep hearing bigger is better and that seems to be the case. The Steelhead is just too small to consistently drive in the 285 yard range. The cosmetics of the club are great and the UST shaft adds character and pro trajectory flight but the performance of the Steelhead left me some what disappointed. Over all, the club will give the low handicapper 290 of the tee at best but usually you can count on 265. Small sweet spot would be to blame for this. I hit the Taylor Made 320 ti while my UST was getting installed and believe me I did not want to give it back. The 320 ti is a superior driver for golfers of all levels.

First of all, I have to say that CALLAWAY CAN NOT MAKE SHAFTS!!! The stock graphite shaft on the Steelhead plus is the worst stock shaft I have ever tried. It's kickpoint is in the funniest point, and the firm shaft just feels downright whippy.

This is a review of the steel shaft model, and even though it is cheaper, it is miles better. More consistant ball flight, better ball flight, more distance etc. etc. etc. If you swing slow, MAYBE try the graphite, but anytime I swung hard at the graphite, it was crap, and the shaft just collapsed. The steel is way better.

This club is a wonder. I could easily smash it 280 off the tee, and an easy 250 off of the ground. This is the best club I have hit in the case of fairway woods. The Adams ST and the Titleist 975F don't even compare. This is a great club. It might even take some strokes off a scratch golfers game.
Of course steel shaft

This is a good club, but don't mis-hit it otherwise you will be screwed. Otherwise it is great! Goes far off of the tee

Model Reviewed: steelhead 3 wood w/ DG X100

this club is awesome! i've had 5 different shafts in this club including original Memphis 10, EI-70, UST Proforce 75, Aldila TGW 70 and current shaft, Dynamic Gold X100 (very playable). I went back to the steel for extra control and found it was more accurate as well as being as long, if not longer than the graphite shafts(due to the lower ball flight). If you are thinking of putting a Dynamic Gold shaft in your steelhead go for one flex stronger due to the shorter hosel in the club(i would usually use a S300).

If you like graphite i would recommend the EI-70 or Fujikura Vista Pro 90. I have tried the new steelhead plus and think it's not as good as the original as it lacks control and feel. You just seem able to work the ball better with the original. If you can, get your hands on an original steelhead over a s/h plus. the best 3 wood i have ever hit and probably the best one out there along side the titleist pt 13.
