MacGregor Mactec NVG Fairway Woods

MacGregor Mactec NVG Fairway Woods

DESCRIPTION

Mactec fairway woods are created using an exclusive combination of advanced materials and technology. Silver brazing technology joins an ultra-lightweight 15-3-3-3 Beta Titanium cup face with a heavier 17-4 Stainless Steel body. This construction combined with a light Titanium hosel sleeve organically shifts the CG deep behind the clubface which promotes an easy high launch, lower spin and driver-like distance.

Model Reviewed: NVG2 15 degree 3 wood and 18 degree 5 wood, Stiff flex

These woods are as good as advertised. After doing some research, it came down to the Tour Edge Exotics and the NVG2. Same technology, same gimmick. I tried both of these in simulation booths and on the range. They yielded almost identical results. The 3 wood was good for 230-240 yards carry. With an all out swing, maybe driver distance, but decrease in accuracy. The 5 wood was good for 205-215 yards. My average club head speed was 102mph. The Exotics stock shaft felt a little firmer, but the NVG2 was more responsive. So with all that in mind, it came down to price. The NVG2 can be had for $99 or under pretty much anywhere now. The Exotics were still hard to find for under $199. So the rest of the review is strictly for the NVG2. I love them. Great at address, huge confidence builder and solid feel throughout the swing. A little bit of a shallow face, so lowered the tee and got great results. It is as advertised, very long and forgiving. On most par 4s, I have the confidence to get on in 2 without the driver. I'm seriously impressed with these and would recommend them to anybody.

The best 3-wood I've ever played. Longer and more accurate than my previous TM V-Steel. I feel so confident with it that I no loger use my driver unless it's abslolutly necessary.

This is an excellent fairway wood. It is fantastic off the tee and fairly forgiving off the deck. It has changed the way I play. I leave my driver in the bag unless the hole is over 400 yds. My scores have dropped since getting this club. Much like the tour edge exotics line with the titanium face and steel body. You can get this on eBay for a song compared to the exotics. Can't go wrong for $50.

Model Reviewed: MacTec NVG Strong Three Wood

Somewhat of a mixed review on this one. I purchased this original (blue finish) NVG 12.5* degree for a very good price at Rock Bottom Golf. Was looking for a versatile strong three wood and this certainly is. Works very well off the tee, fairway, and even poor lies in the rough. Sole configuration is very helpful and the face on these (Ti-Cup) is very hot. One of the longest fairway woods I have ever hit. However, the "stiff" shaft on this felt extremely soft to me so I had it tested by my local certified clubmaker. It tested as a weak women's flex, I couldn't believe it. Not sure if this is due to this "triple action flex" or what, but I hit this very hard but sprayed it before replacing the shaft. Now, it is my go-to club. The head itself is worth the price if you find you are not happy with the shaft. Very hot clubhead, sweet blue color, and sits dead square behind the ball. Try it out, just order at least a flex stiffer than you feel you need or plan to reshaft with your favorite. Will give it four stars simply for the quality of the clubhead.

Customer Service

None needed at this point. Thought about sending back to MacGregor for the reshaft, but this is the older model NVG so had it done locally. Rock Bottom Golf has this at a great low price.

I've been playing with this 3 wood for a few months now to make sure it wasn't just a honeymoon phase. I really like it. I'm hitting it about 10 to 15 yards farther than any other 3 wood I've tried (and I've tried alot of them). I have hit several good shots from the tee that went as far as my playing partners driver shots. It is also very forgiving and quite easy to hit off the deck. I have finally found a 3 wood that I will be keeping in the bag.

Model Reviewed: Macgregor Mactec 3,5 Woods

I have the Mactec NVG 3 and 5 woods (not the NVG2's) in my bag and I'm sure they will stay there for a long time. I wasn't sure about Macgregor because they are not one of the modern day bigger OEM Companies, but I got a great deal on the two clubs and thought I would give them a shot. The shallow face offers great feel and playability, very forgiving and super distance. You can feel the clubhead throughout the swing because it is nice and heavy, which I like, but the real star of the the club, I believe, is the shaft. The Fujikara triple kick shaft is just plain awesome, you can really feel it release and whip through the ball. Make sure you get the correct flex though. Even though I am a Stiff flex in my irons I am a Regular flex in my fairway woods because I swing with a slower and more controlled tempo. This little piece of information from the lauch monitor has not only improved my accuracy, but it has also added about 14-17 yards in total distance. I never thought going down a flex rating could do this, but that's what happens when a shaft is allowed to release and kick at the right time.

Model Reviewed: Mactec Nvg 15* 3 Wood

These fairway woods are very solid performers. Cup face technology is not a gimmick as poorly struck shots are still respectable in disatnce and accurracy. The sound of these woods are very different to the mactec driver(not as loud). As with the driver, the stock stiff shaft plays like a regular. On the course this 3 wood is averaging around the 200 metre mark for me - which is about 15 metres further than my old 3 wood. All in all an excellent club which can be bought very cheap today! (e-bay)

Check out www.Rankmark.com. The Dec 2006 "19th Hole Newsletter" rates the NVG2 fairway wood as the best in an iron/hybrid/fairway wood test.
I think its the BEST 3-wood I've ever hit. Easy to hit, very long, and very forgiving. The shallow-ish face makes it very easy to get the ball up in the air, even from tricky lies.

The ONLY thing lacking in these woods is the stock grip. A new winn and it's perfect. Hot shallow face that just WANTS to send your pellets soaring. If this company had some Tour presence they'd be on everyone's hot list.
