MacGregor Mactec NVG Fairway Woods

MacGregor Mactec NVG Fairway Woods

DESCRIPTION

Mactec fairway woods are created using an exclusive combination of advanced materials and technology. Silver brazing technology joins an ultra-lightweight 15-3-3-3 Beta Titanium cup face with a heavier 17-4 Stainless Steel body. This construction combined with a light Titanium hosel sleeve organically shifts the CG deep behind the clubface which promotes an easy high launch, lower spin and driver-like distance.

Model Reviewed: Macgregor Mactec NVG2 3 wood

I had a Tour Exotics strong 3 wood which I bought based on the write-ups it received. It was very long, but I wasn't consistent with it. The head was small and not forgiving. I bought the NVG2 because it was asthetically pleasing. The head was shallow, but long. It instills confidence at address from the tee, fairway, or even light rough. The sole weights really lift the ball quickly and cleanly. I did lose some distance versus the Exotics, but I gained absolute confidence. The Fujikura stiff shaft is responsive. It adds to the club along with the wacky/tacky factory grip that Macgregor installs. The face is shallow, but super hot. The ball jumps off it.

Customer Service

Bought it from Dick's Sporting Goods. Absolute pleasure to deal with and a knowledgable staff at the Wilkes Barre store.

Model Reviewed: MacGregor Mactec NVG2

I bought the Tour Exotics strong 3 wood early in the year based on its write-up. It was very long (when I controlled it). However, the setup was not pleasing to my eye. It is a small head. Tried the MacTec NVG2 at Dick's Sporting Goods. It's a longer head, with nice weighting to its sole and an active face. Hit it higher than my Exotics but very controllable. The Fujikura stiff shaft is super. It's a solid club that promotes confidence from the tee, fairway, or even light rough given its shallow face design. A true winner for Macgregor.

Model Reviewed: NVG2 3-Wood

I recently replaced my 3-Wood with the MacGregor NVG2. It comes with a special action shaft made my Fujikura. The company describes the cup-face technology (no face welds), creating an expanded sweet-spot.

All company promo's aside, this 3W is as long as most premium golf clubs. Sonartec and Tour Exotics fairway woods are much longer, but can be hard to control. The NVG2 is well balanced, and feels super off the tee or out of the fairway. In my humble opinion, the clubs' best point is control. True to the company, even off-centered hits follow a decent direction. A well struck ball will easily deliver 220+/- yards. Again, an easy swing will get you over 190 yds on the fly.

One reviewer did not like the sound. I did not have any problem with it, but I guess we all hear a little different. The result might cause silience from your playing partners! Now THAT'S a good sound isn't it!

Model Reviewed: Macgregor NVG2 UT5 Hybrid

This is an wonderful club. Of all of the hybrids I have played (Sonartec MD, Cleveland Halo, Kasco, Ping G5, Ben Hogan), this is the best from every standpoint.

I got this at Golfsmith with the Rifle 5.0 shaft.

I have a slow swing speed of about 70 to 75 and with the rollout I can hit this 160 yards.

It makes a pleasing "ka-chink" when strking the ball. Actually, the sound is quite intoxicating and makes me want to hit with the club more.

I do a lot of playing on a 3 hole practice course. This club is so fun to hit that lots of time, I will stop when no one is playing behind me and take as many as 25 practice shots with the NVG2. I am always pleased by my distance and consistency.

It also works well in bad lies.

The head cover is excellent. It is unique, beautiful, functional, and of quality which is consistent with the wonderful quality of the club.

I like this club so much that I think I will buy the UT 4 with the Fujikura graphite shaft.

Congratulations MacGregor. I think you have a winner.

Model Reviewed: MacGregor MACTEC NVG2 - 3 Wood

I've been playing with a Callaway Steelhead 3 Wood for the last 2 years, and have had some success with it. Solid hits would carry around 215 yards. But playing from back tees as my playing level improved (by taking lessons during this time) prompted me to find a 3-wood that I could carry further than 215.

After doing some diligent research, I discovered the MacGregor MACTEC NVG2. I read various articles about the technology behind the club, and then I saw an excellent program on the Golf Channel called "What's In the Bag", that gave an in-depth review of the club and the technology behind it. I knew I had to hit one of these clubs...

After getting a hold of the Nvg2 3-Wood Stiff (from a great buy on E-bay), I took it to my favorite range for the very first time. I have found the added distance I was looking for, with accuracy as an added bonus! I went back and forth between my old Callaway Steelhead and the NVG2, keeping the same swing speed for comparison purposes. The NVG2 was easily flying an extra 20-25 yards passed the Steelhead, carrying approximately 230-235 yards.

It was a solid feel, and the company was not kidding with their claim that the 360* Cupface made the whole face the sweet spot. It definitely hit more consistently than the Callaway (as far as carry distance) as I went back and forth between the two clubs.

The sound off the club did not sound that great, but who cares about sound when your hitting em' long and straight!

Model Reviewed: Macgregor Mactec 3 & 5 woods

Without question the best and easiest fairway woods on sale at the present time! I massive statement i know, but having had them now for 6 months and only fluffing up 3 or 4 shots; having given them to nearly all my partners on the day to try, and they all hit them straighter and further than their own clubs... I feel the original statement is totally justified. NOT ONE PERSON WHO HAS TRIED MINE OUT HAS FAILED TO BE IMPRESSED. In particular, the 5 wood must have the 'hottest' face around. My old 5 wood (Bang; Snake Eyes & Taylor made) were all htting near the 210 yard mark. My average with the beautiful Mactec is 230+ .... for a 5 wood !!!!! The look exceptional and do not have a big face, but a low profile that has more length along the face itself. The shaft respond so well to smooth swinging... but.. just like the driver, the Flex is set up wrong. I use normally a regular, but a stiff flex is needed for the Quadra actioned, fujikura Mactec shaft. Appartently they are bringing out a Mactec utility in 2006 to compliment the others... I WILL BE FIRST IN THE QUEUE FOR ONE!

Model Reviewed: Mactec NVG 5 Wood Reg flex

I play the Mactec NVG driver and love it; so I thought I would try out the fairway wood. It's a beautiful club but I didn't care for the stock grip, so I swapped it for a Winn G8. This wood has a low center of gravity, coupled with tungsten weights placed strategically to improve forgiveness. That technology works well. It' easy to get the ball up and you really have to make a bad swing for the ball to go out of play. The flip side is that if like to work the ball, this club probably won't be to your liking, as it appears set up to go straight. The factory reg flex shaft also appears geared towards players with smooth easy swings. It makes a nice "tink" sound when you strike the ball but it doesn't feel as solid or perform as effectively out of thick stuff as my TM V-steel. It is however, 7-10 yds longer with my swing speed. Overall, it's a great club for me, providing the forgiveness and distance that I need for those long par 3's and that 2nd shot on the par 5's. My 3 wood of choice is the Nike t60. On ebay I see the NVG's go for less than $100 and at that price they are a steal!

I reside in burma. Good golf clubs are hard to find. A lot of knock-offs/clones though. but this morning I saw McGregor's MActec 5 wood. I tested it, and it was awesome. I am new to the game, started playing in 2003. I can drive the ball to 230 yards using Taylor Made 580 10.5, but I hit it exactly 200 yards with this Mactec wood for several times. Awesome. Unfortunately the price tag was USD 450, too expensive compared to prices offered on the net. I will have to wait until I go to Bangkok next February. (shopping online is not possible from here)
