Man! What a club the tradition and promise of Karsten Solheim lives, and bravo to his son for doing so. I just got the club yesterday and today when the course closed for the day I went out just to try different shots, sort of hitting my driver and drop a ball about 220 yards and hit it just to practice hitting it out of the fairway, first I was to quick and the ball went a little right, and MEN! after that it's all smooth and my LORD it is a TOOL!!!! extremely forgiving club that gave you enough feedback when you hit the ball. Amazing just simply amazing.

Great club, the best fairway wood there is. Cheaper and better then the Ti3 too. This is extremely long and forgiving. When buying a fairway wood, this is definately the one to go for!

Well, most of the reviews of the Ping are GLOWING, and i'm not going to buck the trend...

I managed to acquire the Ping 2nd hand. I took it for a test 'drive' if you will, and was pleasantly suprised. The club makes a lovely 'ping' off the face (as you would expect), feels nicely balanced and weighted, and looks smart. I managed to get the club for £75 (bargain over here), and have continued to hit smart golf shots with it ever since.

It is easy to hit off the fairway, and gives good distance even from off centre shots (worm burners from time to time, but that is the indian and not the arrow). The only flaw with the club is the tendancy to sky if teed too high. If you like smaller headed woods (I believe the wood is 138cc, which is very small in comparison with todays titanium beasts) then you'll love these. It gives confidence when hitting off the fairway, unlike some of the Ti 3 woods and drivers.

The only flaw with the club is the tendancy to sky if teed too high. The problem can be easily recified by teeing the ball so that it is SLIGHTLY higher than the face of the club.

The club hits high for a 14 degree. Some people have said that because of the mildly closed face, they find it easy to hook. I did not find this, but I realise now that they were all using the graphite model. Go with steel, it's cheaper and it sounds like it performs better.

Ping have a real winner with this wood.. largely, good tee shots have followed since it's been in my bag.

Model Reviewed: Ping i3 steel 3 wood

This is one of the most well balanced 3 wood I have tried. The custom fitting is an excellent option for anyone wondering about the proper fitting of the club. I found out that I should really be using a slightly upright clubs. The fitting turned my fade (sometimes ugly slices) into a gentle draw. I highly recommend this club to any player. The Aldila shaft is a bit more flexible than the label indicates. I play S or R shaft but when I tried the X-Stiff shaft, I found it to be comparable to S shafts of other manufacturers.

Previously owned orlimar Tri-metal Pluses. Those were good woods, but these are noticably more capable. The 14 degree 3 wood hits long with medium trajectory. 5 & 7 woods are deadly straight. All are excellent at getting the ball up off the deck. Ball flight is straight but can be worked. Callaway Original steelheads were my alltime favorite fairway woods, these are better in every way.Aldila 350 graphite shafts are good OEM shafts.
