Adams Golf GT Irons

Adams Golf GT Irons

DESCRIPTION

From Adams Golf: "The Tight Lies GT Irons offer a revolutionary design bringing together the best of both worlds - the first ever irons that offer the combination of steel and graphite in one shaft. Adams' patented multi-material GT Shaft uses a high-strength, graphite tip that is 50% stronger than steel. This means optimal stability at impact for consistently straighter shots." ...More graphite in the long irons promotes a higher ball flight and greater forgiveness, less in the short irons promotes a lower more controlled trajectory.

I was first pessimstic w/ purchasing new irons as i was quite comfortable with a set of Integra (callaway) knockoffs. However, i am proud to say that these irons are absolutely amazing. where do i begin.
The feel is tremendous soft/plush, ball trajectory is what says on the club "high launch". i noticed an increase of at least 10 yards on any of these clubs, especially w/ my money club..the 7 iron. The 3 iron is a breeze to hit and boy does it go. I am now a Adams kinda guy. For the price and products return on investment there is nothing comparable to this.

Model Reviewed: Adams GT2 w/ High Launch 3&4 Irons

I've always played graphite shafts and wanted to switch to steel, so I bought these to "start out" with. I bought these in the Stiff Flex from RockBottomGolf.com about 6 months ago for $129. Out of the box, the clubs are fairly forgiving. If you plan to keep them a while, you may want to swap out the grips. The 3 and 4 High Launch irons are really easy to hit and as the name implies, the ball will launch with a high trajectory. For slower swingers, this would be ideal, but with my swing speed and even with the stiff shafts, the ball would get airborne and balloon, causing me to lose significant distance. I found that even the other irons in the set tended to hit the ball way too high, forcing me to go up a club or two versus my previous set of irons. However, once I got adjusted to going up a club or two, these irons were dead on accurate and was able to get some good spin with the 7-PW. I really couldn't work a draw or fade with any of the clubs like I could with my previous set of irons, but I think this is due to the design of the club heads and Adams' focus on higher handicap players. Pretty decent irons, but I ended up trading them in for the MacGregor V-Foil M565 irons.

Customer Service

Adams was pretty good. I tried to explain that I was getting the ball in the air too high, and they tried to give me some advice, but I wasn't going to change my swing for these clubs.
As usual, Rock Bottom Golf was great. Great price, fast shipping, and they offered free delivery at the time of purchase.

The set I purchased was a demo set that looked like they had never been hit. Very forgiving irons, but I noticed I was hitting every club very high in the air, resulting in a loss of 15-20 yards over my old set of Wilson Pro Staffs. I wasn't doing anything different with my swing, and the specs for the clubs said the lofts were the standard that come on most off-the-rack sets. So I swapped the gimicky shafts for good ol' True Tempers and saw an immediate improvement on the distance and flight of the ball. Since these are an older set of clubs, you can pick them up fairly cheaply. Swap the shafts and you've got yourself a great set of very forgiving, easy to hit irons.

What can I say? These clubs are great! I'm 5'9 170lbs and can run like the wind. My problem? I just had to admit that my swing speed is not "pro". Can you say graphite shafts? So I read reviews on all types of clubs, hit many more at demo days. But only because of the reviews did I purchase the gt ultimates. A gamble? Not in my book. These clubs look and feel great. The graphite shafts feel sooooooo smooth. And as far as feedback? Just the right amount. I would definatly recommend these to anyone.. No wait! I meant no one! I want the advantage from here on out. One more thing. I bought these on ebay. Brand spanking new, aside from the 5 and 9 iron being hit a few times, for $150. The seller threw in a brand new Adams idea sand wedge. I love that man!

Customer Service

I wanted more info on these clubs so I shot them an email. 1 hour later I had a spec sheet emailed to me with any and all info needed on these clubs. Great customer service!

I have decided that golf clubs should be just like a car or a woman. Trustworthy, reliable, fun, inexpensive and easy to take care of. No disrespect intended toward Titleist 981's, but I've put a ton of money in them bewteen the purchase price, reshaftings and refittings. I can't count the lesson costs - I needed them anyway. When hit well, they are great clubs. I don't play often enough to keep my swing in shape to use them. That being said! I decided to revert to a game improvement iron. I picked up a set of the GT irons along with a GT 410 driver and GT 3 and 5 wood for $400 at Dick's. I took them to the driving range the next day and I have only one word to describe the GT's - FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC! Right out of the box I was hitting these irons straighter and 15-20 yards further than my 981's. It seemed almost impossible to hit these off center, even when I tried to. When hit off center I was not punished very much at all for distance, accuracy or in a shock wave through my hands and arms. Many of the reviews have said these irons can't work the ball. Well, neither can I. I'm very happy with a straight ball if I can put it where I want it to go. These irons seem to be able to really help me do that. I did notice that my divots were a bit deeper on the toe side, so the lie might have to be increased just a bit, but otherwise, I love these things. I have changed my attitude about this game. It's supposed to be fun! These irons will help me enjoy it more. They may not have the big name appeal, or be as pretty in the bag as the 981's, but they do a better job, for me, where it counts. They are easy to swing, get the ball up easily, good distance and straight. When you can walk up to the ball and trust that your clubs will help you the game is a whole lot easier and a lot more fun. PS - The GT 3 wood that came with the set is every bit equal to my Taylor Made 200. I haven't yet hit the driver, so "no comment" there. I'm ordering a set of the Adams/Tom Watson wedges today. If they are as good as the GT's I'm going to be one very happy camper.

Customer Service

I emailed Adams with questions about the differences between the variations of GT models (Performance, Ultimate and Tour). They responded very quickly.

Great irons. I would have never thought upgrading my beginner set to these irons would make such an impact in my game. After golfing about a year and a half and consistently shooting low-mid 80s I upgraded to these babies. My game has since improved and I am now consistently shooting in the mid-high 70s. I like the look, feel, and forgiveness of these irons. However, these irons have a smaller clubhead size than a typical OS iron so unless you have a consistent swing these irons will be a little difficult to hit (proven by some buddies of mine). I believe the GT Performance may have a bigger clubhead size but I am not sure. Also the factory grips are not that great. They are not bad, just not great. Ball trajectory is also somewhat high on these irons and the ball will balloon on you in windy conditions if you cannot hit it low. So if you play in windy conditions often and cannot hit a punch shot I would look elsewhere. Overall, great irons, possibly one of the best (if not the best) in the <$200 price range.
