Ben Hogan Apex Plus Irons

Ben Hogan Apex Plus Irons

DESCRIPTION

From Ben Hogan Golf: "When Ben Hogan introduced the first forged, perimeter-weighted irons in 1989, he built the club some said, "couldn't be made." The "impossible" combination of perimeter-weighted forgiveness and forged feel. This experience, technology and innovation shapes the Ben Hogan Apex Plus. Many golfers have aspired to play a Ben Hogan Apex. Now, the perimeter-weighted Apex Plus provides an appreciably larger sweet spot across the face of the club, from heel to toe. Off-center hits will go longer, be more accurate and just happen to "feel" a lot better, too."

The Best clubs you will ever buy. But lets not get carried away, These clubs are for the better golfers who have their swing in check. So if your a high handicap players i suggest you play a more forgiving club than these. I have owned these for about 8 years. and I absolutely love them. the price is right and the feeling you get from well struck shot is pure heaven. these are long and accurate. I am not a fan od the sand wedge as it is heavier than what i like.
if you get a chance to buy these you will not be dissappointed. unless you are a high handicap trying to use these clubs.

As the last post mentions, rumors abound that Callaway plans to discontinue the Ben Hogan line of clubs. That would be a hugh mistake on their part. The 2007 Apex Edge Plus iron is one of the best irons currently available on the market aimed for better players. It is every bit as good, if not better, than any better players Titleist, Mizuno, Nike, Ping, etc. Feedback is as good as it gets. Well-struck shots feel like the old Hogan forgings of years ago when Ben Hogan himself ran the company. Workability is as good as any club on the market. The overall weight and balance complement each other to allow the clubhead to be felt throughout the swing. The Apex 4 shaft (similar to - if not - a Royal Precision Lite shaft) plays as a "firm regular", yet is more responsive and ball-controlling than the True Temper Dynamic Golf 300 shaft or the Royal Precision Rifle Project X shaft. Quality of the ironhead itself compares to the best ironheads Japanese manufacture Miura has to offer. Hopefully, Callaway will "reinvent" the Ben Hogan brand so that sales will warrant its continuing production.

Since Callaway's takeover of the Ben Hogan company I had a feeling they might discontinue the Hogan line of clubs. I have always wanted a set and made the plunge with the Apex Edge Plus. Firstly the feedback one gets with ones shots is great. These clubs force you to groove your swing. The feel of a crisply struck shot is pure Hogan....butter. These clubs also let you really work the ball on the course. They bring the shotmaker out in you! The over all feel is great and the clubs are very well 'balanced.' I will be playing these for many years to come.

WOW!!!! I HAVE HAD THESE IRONS SINCE 2004 AND LOVE THEM. WHEN YOU STEP UP TO THE FIRST TEE AT YOUR LOCAL CLUB OR SOMEWHERE NEW AND PEOPLE SEE THAT YOU ARE HITTING THESE IRONS, ITS KINDA INTIMIDATES EM' BECAUSE OF THIER SIZE. LEFT TO RIGHT, RIGHT TO LEFT, OR DOWN THE MIDDLE CAN BE ACOMMPLISHED WITH THESE BAD BOYS. THE ONLY COMPLAINT THAT I HAVE IS WITH THE MIS-HITS. YOU REALLY CAN TELL; HOWEVER, LIKE OTHERS IT HAS MADE ME A BETTER ALL AROUND PLAYER AFTER DIALING IN ON MY SWING.

Great club. I have been a golfer stuck in the mid 80's for about three years and looking to get to the next level. Since I have used these irons, I am now consistently lower 80's upper 70's. Because of the awful feel on a mis-hit, it has forced me to concentrate on my swing. My swing has not only improved on my irons, but has improved in my driver and three wood as well. Once again great club, but definitly would not suggest it to a beginner or someone who is not a good ball striker with his irons.

The Ben Hogan Apex Plus are absolutely the best irons I have every played. The forged head feedback is immediate and the forgiveness is geared for the consistent player. This means you must practice a repeatable swing to reap the benefits from these clubs.

The shafts yield a very powerful flight and you can shape your shots for any situation. Though I am a large player, I swing the number 3 shaft which is a regular flex. This flex gives me the opportunity to control my tempo and dial in those in-between-club yardages.

I cannot say enough about the Hogan quality as well. The Company is first class in workmanship.

Five stars for the Ben Hogan Golf Company. I hope Callaway dosen't tinker with what works extremely well. Leave'em be Callaway, leave'em be!

Very high quality irons that provide xlnt feedback and control. Fairly forgiving as well, but you need to be a good ballstriker to get maximum benefit from these. The Apex #4 shafts are lighter and slightly more flexible than DGS-300, making them ideal for swingspeeds(driver) of 90-100 mph. The feel of a solid shot is pure Hogan, and will inspire you to improve your game.

I've had these clubs for over a year now and thought it was about time i wrote a review.
If you're looking for a set of forged clubs at a great price (cheap on ebay - i got mine for £100 in like new condition) then these are the clubs to buy.
I first started playing with cavity backs but then wanted to try something that would force my swing to get better (with practise of course). These clubs have been great for that purpose, they teach you how to strike the ball properly and give feedback on mis-hits, in other words you can tell what you were doing with the club face while making your golf swing and hitting the ball (very important if you want to improve your golf swing).
Quite a heavy clubhead compared to other irons i've used but this isn't a problem.
These clubs are very long, but that may be due to the strong lofts and stiff shaft.
I didn't think much of the sand wedge though, it was too heavy for my liking (even more so than the rest of the irons), so i replaced it with a cleveland s wedge.
Great feel on these clubs when you hit the ball flush! It really is a nice feeling! Worth persisting with them just to experience this feeling, as it is a joy to have during a round.
At the end of the day though, a golf club is a golf club, and no matter which stick you choose, focus more on your swing (especially shortgame) than the technology.

Not needed, these clubs are solid and will last a very long time. Nothing to fall apart on these beauties.

I brought a set of these several years ago when my really old cast pal joeys were near death...My local club pro had me hit about 6 different brands of irons and these were so far out in front of the others it was a no brainer...these are great irons...i love the "snick" i get when they are hit flush (more and more often)...my shots fly straight and long...when i miss hit, there is not a huge hook or slice, just less distance...these may not be for everyone, but i dont ever want to play with a different set...i would recommend that everyone get fitted for clubs, and if your lucky like me, you will fit into the Apex Plus
