I found these Golfsmith Pro Forged on Ebay for $175.00 for a 3-LW with Rifle 5.5 shafts and Lamkin Crossline Midsize grips. I like forged irons for the feel they give but have always played cavity back irons. I've always wondered if I could hit a blade and after reading the reviews on this website, I thought I would give them a try. I love the way they look just holding them and at address, very classy with no offset and a thin top line. I played with them the first time today and shot my lowest score of the year. My last seven rounds were from 81-85, today was a 78. They more confidence I got knowing I could actually hit them, the better I did hit them to the tune of shooting a one over par on the back nine. They felt very solid on shots with a nice soft feel. The smaller classic head made me concentrate more as one poster has already said, I had very few miss hits, if any. If you're a 10 handicap or lower, I'm pretty sure you could hit these clubs. I'm presently a 9 handicap and if I hit these clubs the way I did today, I can only imagine I will get better.

I bought my set of GS Pro Forged irons from ebay and it turned my game around. I am a 4 handicap and was playing with a set of Mizuno T-Zoids. I have owned several sets or irons ranging from Ping eye 2 to Lynx Parralax. I have never played a better set of irons. I have 2 to PW and I hit my 2 iron on a lot of short par 4's. With roll and carry I hit it 230 give or take. They have the sweetest feel of any club I've played. I like to work the ball up down, right left and I cannot do that with Cavity backs. I would not take anything for my Golfsmith Pro Forged Irons. To me all cavity backs give no information on where and how you're hitting the ball. With blades you will know instantly. I tell my friends that if you can hit a blade and get used to them you'll never go back to a cavity back.

There's nothing negative that I can say about these irons. They look great at address, feel great and hit great. I got mine used from a forum for $110 shipped. What a steal!

The most playable forged blade I have played with. Easy to live with on up and down days. I have newer Titleist (terrible feel), Hogan and Wilson blades in the basemement. Nothing feels like these except for a Mizuno which feels just slightly softer at 10 times the cost. Mine are on Flighted Rifle 5.5 shafts.

Just a follow up on my recent post. While I still maintain that these irons are a great value, I have to take back my remark about them being close to the Mizuno MP-33. I hit them next to a set of MP-33's and the feel is definitely better with the Mizuno's. One other small complaint about the Golfsmith's is that I think they are a bit too thin and need a little more weight.

I just received a brand new set of these irons and have nothing but good things to say about them. I did have Mizuno MP 33's and see no drop off in performance with these clubs. They may not have the exact feel of the Mizunos but they are pretty darn close. I only paid $350 for 3-AW. Unbelievable value.

Bought from independent club maker Jim McLain of McLain golf. Outstanding service.

The Golfsmith Forged cavity backs are a mid sized iron. The have TTGold shafts-r 300 from 2-sw They are smooth and accurate and excellent from long, mid, and short ranges and for chipping They have great feel. I sometimes use the CVs for 3-5 and the MBs for 6-SW as a combo set but even as one set they are great as are the Golsmith MB. A cheaper but excellent alternative are th the new Integra Forged MBs and mixed set ---CV/CV with mb and blades. The are close to the Nikes--very, very close suggesting that Nike might well be produced in the Intgra factory north of Guangzhou (just a idle suggestion---they seem to resemble the Nikes and the Mizon MP 29 blades and the mixed or combined set is a dead ringer for the Nike set down to the swoosh--on the integras it is a bold V..... They also play well but not quite at the level of the Golfsmith clubs that are a bit larger and softer in feel.. However cost wise they are about $10 us versus $26 for the Golfsmiths. In any case modest priced and high performance blades and CB s are available as components (and can be made up by the seller) at relatively modest cost. Certainly better than the $800-$1000 it costs for Nike, Mizuno or Titleist

I can't beleive you can build a club that beats the pants off the higher priced name brand clubs. This clubs are sweet. I built them with True Temper Dynamic Gold Stiff and made them 3/4 inches longer basically for my son. He didn't like them so I started using them. I never thought blades were for me but they perform. I just need to cut them down to normal size.

These are the best. For the price & labor of building your own, it WILL save you $100's. Plus you build them to suit you. I'm a 10 hdcp. & can get more feel working these than any other club I've tried. Shafts are the most important. You must find the shaft that fits your swing speed. I built them with TT Sensicore S300's. Was considering Rifles, but sensicores seemed more consistant. Rifles work great with these heads also, but it was a personal preference. Senicores felt a little softer & smoother. Grips make a difference too. IMHO Winn are the worst. Tried a few & they came apart just from bag wear. I have never seen a Winn grip go more than 2 weeks without signs of wear & tear. May be a great putter grip, but... Go with GolfPride, Lamkin or a rubber tour wrap. This head & the Tour Cavity Forged are the best heads Golfsmith makes. I previously played the Cavity forged. The Pro Forged are as forgiving. The muscle back design digs in a little more. They are very similar to the Mizuno's. I think they are forged in the same factory. I took the step & made my own clubs. Couldn't be happier.
