Golf Smith Tour Cavity Forged Irons

Golf Smith Tour Cavity Forged Irons

DESCRIPTION

From GolfSmith: " Perimeter-weighted cavity offers forgiveness on occasional mis-hits, while the soft carbon steel, tour-radiused sole, minimal offset, slightly rounded toe and thin topline are all features preferred by better players. The long irons are designed with slightly more cavity thickness in the heel to help prevent the tendency to leave the club face open at impact."

A very nice set of clubs. They look good in the bag--maybe not quite as pretty as Hogans but not too bad. They have a very soft, solid feel. My set has True temper Tri-gold shafts in regular flex and Lamkin grips. I agree with all the other reviews. The clubs are forgiving, feel great and are a great value. Some players might prefer to use a mixed set with Golfsmith's pro-forged blades in the short irons. These are definitely as good as anything else out there (better than anything else I've played.) You could probably get a custom set of these made with the shaft and grip of your choice for less than a set of off-the-shelf cast irons. Tough to say no to that. I think anyone considering Macgretor PCB's, Precept forged tour irons, various Mizuno irons etc. might want to check out the Golfsmith's as well.

Simply stated, these forged cavity backs from Golfsmith are awesome clubs. The best I have used to date. I had been using OEM and component cast cavity backs for years. I have owned various Taylor Mades, Clevelands, Callaways, MacGregors, and Mizunos. For me, none have matched the performance or feel of these Tour Cavity Forged irons from Golfsmith. I had this set assembled with Rifle flighted 5.5 steel shafts and Crossline grips. The entire set is very forgiving for forged clubs. All types of golfers will enjoy and benefit from these clubs. The wedges are simply unbelievably sweet!. Do yourself a favor and give these irons a try. They are as good or better than the leading brand name forged irons I demoed including the Mizuno MX 20''s and the new Nike blades. At half the cost you just can''t go wrong. Scott Verplank and J.L. Lewis know a great club when they see one. Way to go Golfsmith!

In a word, awesome! For the past year or so I have been playing Cleveland Quadpro irons with Ping Eye2 wedges and have been very happy with them. The year before that I was using some Callaway Tungsten Titaniums. Also some excellent sticks. However, after hitting a Golfsmith Tour Cavity Forged wedge I assembled for a customer, I knew I had to assemble an entire set for myself. I now have a full set of these beauties assembled with Rifle Flighted 5.5 shafts and Lamkin Crossline grips. They will be in my bag for a long time. The feel of these irons is simply unbelievable. Solid and smooth! I guess Forged irons really do provide a different, more pleasing feel. At least these certainly do. Hitting the generous sweet spot results in a deadly accurate shot with wonderful forged feel. I also like the standard degrees of lie that Golfsmith uses with most of their iron heads. I have found through demoing various OEM irons that to me, they seem too upright resulting in either hooks or severe unintentional draws. For example, Golfsmith recommends useing a 60* lie with the 38" length for a 5 iron. Callaway, TM, Cleveland, Macgregor, etc., use 61.5. I am average heighth (5''11") and these OEM lie angles are just too upright for me. Maybe some of you have experienced the same thing. Anyway, give these irons a test drive if you ever have the opportunity. You will be very pleased. A component iron with tour level performance. Great job Golfsmith! I guess Scott Verplank and J.L. Lewis know a good thing when they see one.

Simply stated...WOW! I had been playing Cleveland Quadpros (3-9 iron) and Ping Eye2 wedges and was very happy with them until I hit the Golfsmith Tour Cavity Forged wedges that I assembled for a friend. Words that came to mind after hitting these clubs included smooth as silk, soft as butter, great forged feel, very accurate, and forgiving. Needles to say, I have now assembled a complete set for myself using Rifle 5.5 Flighted shafts which seems to be a perfect combination for me. The Quadpros and Pings have departed by way of Ebay. Also, I am 6'' tall and find that the standard degrees of lie used by golfsmith work very weel for me. Many of the OEMs seem to use too upright of a lie on their irons which cause sharp draws and hooks. For example, the standard 5 iron lie from Golfsmith is 60*. The 5 iron lie from Callaway, TM, Cleveland, etc. are 61.5* or more. (I guess it is probably a good idea to have a proper club fitting from a professional club fitter). I have been building clubs for quite some time now and these forged cavity backs from Golfsmith are the sweetest set I have built and used to date. They are absolutely first rate in looks, feel, and performance and will remain in my bag for a long time. Great job Golfsmith!

I don''t own the full set. I just had customgolf.com build me a SW and PW with stiff Dynalite Golf shafts and crossline grips. I had the PW bent to 51* to use as a gap wedge. These are the sweetest wedges I have ever hit. Much more forgiving than any blade wedge I''ve ever hit. I can''t hit the ball all over the clubface without losing much distance. Very accurate. The flat sole sets up beautifully at address. These are the first forged irons I''ve ever hit and impact has a wonderful soft, solid feel. Full shots fly high and land whisper soft. Chipping is a breeze and the SW is great out of a bunker. Better golfers might want the wedges build with a little heavier static weight and swingweight they what I''ve got, but the Dynalite Gold shafts swingweighted at D4 (PW) and D6 (SW) work great for me. My only complaint is that the forged chromed heads do scratch very easily if they meet a rock or stone. My 2 year wedge search is finally over!

I brought the components of 3-PW about six months ago over the phone and had the local retailer assembled for me. The club maker said that these are the most beautiful clubs he''d even seen. Indeed they are! Abd the Tour Cavity Forged are very pure - the feel is excellent. It''s a joy to hit with them shots after shots.

Customer Service

The mechandises came on time. But the sales rep. didn''t check if the hossel type of the shaft matched with the heads. The local golf shop helped me to exchange the shafts so there was no damage don

Ihave been a Golf Professional for the past 10 years, so I get the opportunity to play whatever clubs I want for free. The Tour Cavity Forged are the softest and best performing iron I have ever used. I assembled my own with Graffaloy Prologic graphite shafts. This combination allows me to hit high, long shots that stop on a dime when they hit. I have used just about every brand name on the market and nothing compares to these clubs.

Customer Service

Golfsmith is always on top of their game. Questions are always answered immediately and thoroughly.

I had been hitting some ancient Rams. My game was fair, but I could never put it all together for a solid round. I tried several friends clubs including Mizuno, Titleist and Ping. All of them hit better than what I was used to, but I wasn''t willing to fork out the $400 to $500 for a used set of Mizunos. Then I tried my dad''s Tour Cavity Forged. These were by far the softest clubs I have ever hit. The first round I played with them I shot an 82!! I order a set off of Ebay the next day for $205. They came with the Tri-Gold S-flex shafts and I couldn''t be happier. I highly recommend these clubs to anyone who wants top of the line quality at a very reasonable price.

Customer Service

Excellent. I ordered the Sand and Lob wedge heads online and made the final two clubs myself.

Great Irons. Built with Rifle 5.0 and Golf Pride. I learned on blades and have been left cold by the game improvement irons I have tried. These have enough forgivness for me. My score is the same with these or Ping I3 O's but these feel a 1000 times better. I will be building the SW and Lob with Rifle 4.5 Spinners. The shafts that come with off-the-shelf wedges are way too stiff for me. I go for the softest feel I can get.

I built this set last summer to replace my Ping Zing 2's. I wanted to go to a blade feel, as my swing was ready for the move. I assembled the 3-LW (SW and LW are golfsmith forged blades) with rifle 5.5 shafts, and Winn grips. I have assembled well over 100 clubs, and this set was to be my crowning jewel. They are. I could not have been happier with them. Whenever I am at a driving range, I always test out the name-brands which the manufacturer's reps are selling, and I have not found anything that has the feel and power that I get from these clubs. In fact, when I first started playing with them, I kept flying over greens. I think that actually clubfitting myself, and getting the proper shaft and length for my swing made all the difference. If you purchase OEM products off the shelf, you will never get this mix right, not to mention the fact that most OEM clubs use inferior quality shafts, which are the engine that drives the clubs. This is especially true if you are looking at graphite shafts. I would highly recommend these to anyone who feels ready to swing a forged club.

Customer Service

Usually in the store, I know more about clubmaking than the reps, but if you talk to a clubmaker, they are really good.
