wsa playing with x16's and felt that it was time to try a new set of clubs. At £299 I thought these are worth a try. they are similar in distance to the x16's for me (5 iron about 170 carry with a controlled swing). I hit the ball mostly straight. These clubs have helped me understand what I need to do to improve. That is because I am spending a lot of time working on it at the moment. I still score around the 83 mark, but with practice they should give me a few new shots to get my score lower (reliable draw/fade). In my opinion they are ideally suited to better players than me. But, they might give me chance to get there if I practice the right things. I don't think the x16's would.

Picked these brand new off ebay for $300 cdn including shipping. After hitting them at the indoor range I gotta say they feel great. I have read alot of negative reviews about the Speed Step shafts but the seem to suit me pretty well. They are forgiving on off center hits and when you hit them pure the fly off the club face. This is my first set of forged irons and I now know what they mean about feedback. Mine are stiff flex. The 8, 9 and PW are baldes and are the nicest to hit. Overall I am very happy with them. I will post another review when I get on the links and give them a real workout.

i love these irons!!! With my 3 iron i can hit it longer than most people drive (250 yards and even a bit more with a huge swing) as well as centre of the fairway, great for when the big gun isnt working. The thing i most enjoy about these irons is from 6 to P. These are simply fantastic, the baldes from 8-P are deadly accurate and this is without shaft changes and lie etc. The only problem i have with the clubs is they can scratch easy in poor lies and I cant hit the 5 iron (probably psychological) Apart from that, a great set of irons at a great price!!!

These are 2004 models. Bought brand new on ebay for $200. Had lies changed to my specs and replaced the shafts with Dynamic Gold SL (S300). The irons are very soft feeling and give very consistent ball flight from iron to iron. The head stay stable without much distance loss through the set with hits toward the toe. Iron generate the amount of spin I look for. Nike quality control gets an A+ for these irons, since I did not have to add weight to a single head with the reshaft. That means the heads are manufactured to very tight weight tolerances. Most bad reviews of these irons I would bet are related to fitting. Lie angle, shaft and head design affect direction and trajectory. For example too upright (toe up) causes pulls and hooks, while too flat (toe digging) causes pushes and fades. The shaft will affect feel and ball flight. The head design will affect trajetory and can provide forgiveness. If you can't hit these, then the problem is one of fitting. At the prices these are going for on ebay the savings can be applied to a fitting session and you will have a dynamite set to play with.

Bought them 2 years ago after a good friend bought them and raved about the long irons. I had been playing pings(eyes then eye 2s) for twenty years. in 2003 I probably had more rounds in the 70s than ever before ( i'm 45 now) and thought some new technology might cut a few more strrokes off the handicap. I didn't have a problem adjusting to the blade like low irons as I have always carried titleist wedges 52, 56, 60 instead of the ping sand and loft wedges. I will say the 3 and 4 irons are easy to hit and very workable right and left BUT----- the low irons leave a lot to be desired. Wedge,9,8 are very inconsistent in direction and control. Nike may be a billion dollar company but the R & D needs some more work. I don't think the blades are balanced right, at least not compared to the titleist which I love. I never felt I could knock it stiff on a consistent basis and got into the bad habit of shooting to the center of greens in stead of at the flag when I was inside of 150 yds. There is no such thing as a green light with these irons. Of course I had played for years with trutemper gold shafts and maybe it was the NIKE speedstep shafts all along. I thought about putting new shafts in all the clubs but chucked them in favor of a set of callaway x-18s. My rounds could be anywhere from low 80s to the 90s, all it took was a few so-so swings and you end up in places 10-20 yds short or offline of your target. As far as distance, I was never impressed and I never felt I could nuke an iron if I was between clubs and needed 5-10 yds extra without sacrificing accuracy. Also I broke a shaft and it is impossible to get a matching replacement shaft without sending the clubhead back to the nike factory. In fact it is even hard to find replacement grips. I'm not saying these clubs suck but if you want offset clubs or blades, go buy them and don't mess around with a set which is 1/2 of each. I really wanted to like these irons because they looked and felt good but I couldn't stand the bad results. I play to have fun not talk to myself on the ride home about what I could have done differently or what I could/should have shot.

Customer Service

Nike does not have any authorized repair dealers in my area and broken equipment must be sent to them to repair. Also the Customer service phone rep. was very unknowledgeable and I felt like he could care less if he helped me.

I bought these clubs a week ago after careful consideration. I looked at the Nike Slingshots, the Callaway X-16 and of course the Nike Pro Combo. These are without a doubt the best irons for the price you pay. I picked them up for $399 at a local golf pro shop. I am still having a little trouble hitting the long irons. I always seem to hit them to the right, not sure why but I will figure it out. The mid-irons are very good, but where I have found the most success is the short irons. These irons are deadly accurate. I am a 16 handicap but I was hitting by 9 iron 130 to within 10 feet of hole almost regurally. I haven't seen much in increased distance but I have found especially with the longer irons is when I do get a hold of one they go straight as as arrow. Overall I give these clubs two thumbs up.

This is just an update to my review a few months back. I was not really unhappy with Pro Combos but on a whim I just decided to purchase another set as they are very inexpensive right know ($200 shipped). Took them to my Golf Smith and had him reshaft them with the Dynamic Gold S300's and had the lofts adjusted a little. I like them 100% better and they may be the best sticks I've ever played. Try em, you'll like em!!
