Ping I5 Irons

Ping I5 Irons

DESCRIPTION

The Ping i5 iron is a mid-size, stainless steel iron with reduced offset. The perimeter weighted iron shares many of the G5 iron features, including the larger, thinner Custom Tuning Port (CTP) for improved feel. The sole width and cavity size are created for forgiveness and playability. The lead edge and bounce angle are designed for a smoother, forgiving transition through the turf and from the rough.

Wonderful. Ping has done it again it appears. The new I5 is the perfect combination of workability and control I have found to date. I notice it seems very easy to work the ball left or right. The long iron actually get the ball up very well. While the short irons produce a boring trajectory. The feel is wonderful and the look at address fills me with confidence. If you are looking for a playable iron with a bit of forgiveness you may want to consider these.

Customer Service

As with everything else Ping does. Its great.

I have hit virtually every iron from major manufacturers over the last 4 or 5 years. Recently when Ping announced the G5 and I5 irons I was curious but not overly excited. I work in a pro shop and although the G2 irons had been our best seller over the last year I personally didn't care for them. Honestly I didn't like the finish and craftsmanship of the G2 I was afraid PING was taking a step back. I had never seen new Pings come into the shop with smudged paint fills and overall shotty workmanship like the G2's. Also I thought they were "clunky" with too much offset for my likeing. When we got the demo irons in for the I5 and G5 I was impressed. The design and fit and finish of these irons is top notch. I had thought the G5 was just a cosmetic change over the G2 but upon closer review and testing the irons side by side the G5 is IMHO a much better feeling iron. Now onto the I5. I have been hitting PING irons for years and have been hitting the I3+ the last couple of years on and off. I must say the the I5 is a superior iron. The feel is outstanding for a cast cavity back iron. I really like the CSL shaft which is a lighter weight steel shaft. The size and shape of the I5 head is almost blade like but with a very subtle offset and a nice white paint fill line for alignment. It appears to be a slightly more squared head than the I3+. These irons are like lazers. Straight accurate and consistent with distance. Also I find them easy to draw or fade. They are reasonably forgiving for their size especially on toe hits. The most prominent characteristic of these irons for me is sold feel. Distances for me are about the same as my I3+. The other thing that sets these apart from any other iron is the PING name itself. I ordered mine CSL stiff, Green dot (2up), plus a half inch and added the U wedge right away. In addition I specified D2 swingweight as Pings usually come in a little light if not specified. I had the clubs 1 week from the day I ordered them and they were dead on with the specs. No other manufacturer can come close to doing custom orders like Ping. Try these irons if they are too much iron then I would suggest the more forgiving G5, both are very worthy irons. Again quality is top notch and the new improved insert in the cavity is much more solid and has a high quality look to it compared to the G2 or I3+.

These irons are great, and they feel much better than my King Cobras and Callaway X-14's. I have more control on the shots and overall distance has increased at least 10-20 yards per club.

Customer Service

From what I hear they are great.
