Titleist 731 Phil Mickelson Set Irons

Titleist 731 Phil Mickelson Set Irons

DESCRIPTION

The Limited Edition 731PM irons are a blended set of cavity back long irons, hybrid mid irons and muscle back short irons developed by Phil Mickelson and Titleist. These irons are the exact product specifications as Phil Mickelson who has been using them since the second half of the 2001 PGA tour season. The objective in designing these irons was to offer better left-handed players a more traditional blade iron choice.

Awesome clubs, great, immediate feedback.First day with the clubs shot a 77 on a long tight course, best previous round at same course was a 91. I have always had a hard time hitting long irons. On a 555 yd. par five,I was attempting to lay up from 235 out with the 3 iron, figured I would have 50 to 75 yds left for my 3rd. shot, instead I was pin high 20 ft. from the stick, best feeling I have had on a golf course. Overall clubs were 15 to 20 yds.longer than anything I have ever played before. Needless to say I am selling all of my other clubs. If you're left handed and have decent swing speed, you need to try these babies, you will never look at another club the same way, these are the best clubs I have ever played. Good luck and have a Grateful Day!!!!!!!!!!

Model Reviewed: Titleist 731 PM irons 6.5 Project X

After months of searching for a lefty combo of cavity backs and blades, I decided to try these. Ball flights are half a club longer (5-10 yds) and lower in trajectory. The short irons are pretty forgiving despite the blade design. Long irons are a bit harder to get airborne due to 1. stronger lofts and 2. my swing (there...i admit it). One thing about these irons....distance control is optimal. If your swing is tight, they will deliver the ball to the target. After 2 months, I replaced the DG S300 shafts with Rifle 6.5 Project X shafts. These are a bit stiffer but they eliminate half of my low hooks (the other half is ...again...my swing's fault). ...In summary, if you want a player's set and lower your ball flight, these are the best (albeit limited) set out there. Make sure you bend those wedges to match with the 45 degree pitch.

This is a great set of irons. The short irons are very easy to. And are great to control ball flight and distance. The long irons are also very easy to hit. I also love the feel of the s300 shafts. The only down side is the mirror finsh on the blade irons in the set. After only a couple uses there are scatches all over which is a eye sore. But when is comes to performance there great!

Am in the process of looking for irons to replace my 1984 Titleist blades. After comparing these to the 690.MB I have to say I prefer the 731pm. The reason is feel. With the 690's I couldn't get a feeling of clubhead position during the swing anywhere near to what I do with these or my 1984 Titleist blades. Distance is longer than my previous set (loft on these is very strong). Finish will scratch easily since it is mirror polished stainless 431 and not chrome. Feel at impact is more harsh than either of the other sets of forged irons I mentioned, but still pleasant. I also prefer the looks of the 690s with the thinner topline, but couldn't get them to work for me even after playing around with a roll of lead tape and swingweight scale. My advice to other lefties out there is to get a number of used sets off of ebay to try them out and sell the one's you don't care for. I even picked up a set of X-14s just to see what super game improvement clubs felt like these days. Nice, but a bit of fools gold. They hit a mile on a very high trajectory, but in the end they have little feel or workability. They do make up for a bad swing though to a much better extent than do the Titleists.

Out of the box these clubs feel lighter and much better balanced than my Titleist 990's. The construction from top to bottom is air tight. The face profile of the 731's is higher than the 990's although the clubs are the same length from heel to toe. This design difference is major when comparing the two clubs. The 990's feel toe heavy by comparison. Grip and set up felt at home immediately. Offset progression from PW-3i looks extremely natural and not manipulated. These are the first progressive offset irons I've ever seen that look natural at address. Easily aligned clubface to ball at address. Very handsome clubs. Clubs feel lighter than 990's due to better balance of clubhead. They do not pull swing out of plane back and/or through. On the range they hit beautifully. My 990's with Rifle shafts felt harsh by comparison. Dynamic S-300's match perfectly with clubheads and my swing. Stronger lofts add distance without sacrificing trajectory in the shorter clubs. 3i and 4i have a lower trajectory than my 990's with my swing. On the course the clubs played up to expectation with every lie and wind condition. Definitely longer by at least a full club over the 990's. Mis-hits held the line and feedback was appropriate-not harsh. My only concern is the wear that chrome clubs normally show after time. Just a tip for the care of any golf club-use a wet towel to clean them and not a wire brush! I demo'd these clubs a year or so ago but felt they were too expensive. Got a great deal on a new set on ebay. Sometimes it pays to be a lefty! Hope this review helps other lefties out there. I know how difficult it is to find and try clubs before you buy them. However, if you think your game is worth it, I wouldn't hesitate to buy these irons new or used. Frank

This was my first ebay purchase and the folks at Nevada Bob's in Chattanooga were first class throughout. Having played Titleist equipment for a number of years, I feel sure that any manufacturer problems can be taken care of. I do not anticipate any.

Just got back from my first 18 holes with my new set of 731´s. Wow for at great feeling in these irons. Lign up with the short (8-9-pw) irons and just hit it - straight at the pin - , and talk about spin. Somebody told me blades were difficult to play, well I gues Titleit may have solved that problem. The mid and long irons (3-7) are very easy playing. No problem at all getting the ball airborne and from almost any lie. And talk about the look of these irons. It´s just great. YES I love my new set of 731´s. Sorry Tiger - Not avalible in right hand!!

Awesome clubs, awesome look. I typically shoot high 70's, low 80's depends on how often I am playing. First round out with them fired an 80 on a pretty tough little course. If my driver, and 3-wood would have been working like the irons were would have been a 75, but thats a different story. I switch from Cleveland TA-5's talk about from one extreme to another. I will admit the blades demand good contact, but within one session on the range I learned more about my swing than years with other clubs. An added bonus I found was the spin you can put on the 8-PW is crazy, talk about sticking it and spinning it back. Only complaint was the shafts weren't to my liking. I came from some sensicores and want a little more buttery feel from the shaft along with more stiffness. Getting them switched to rifles that will be a little stiffer. All I can say is these clubs are a whole lot of fun and will improve your game if you are willing to put in the work.

Bought from Jason at Ibuygolfclubs.com via Ebay. Awesome deal, he accepted my old irons as trade in and gave me a very good price for them, and the new 731's. If you want to upgrade your old clubs check him out he does a great job, very fast and extremely fair. I doubt you can get a better trade in on your old clubs anywhere else.

Titleist 731 - Great buy, great feel. I have played PING, Callaway, and Cleveland. You can basically go down a club because of the power in the S300 shafts. Slight offset in the 3 iron (.205) and cavity back make the 3-5 irons easy to hit. There's also plenty of power delivered in the 6-PW. Now I know why Phil dogs Tiger for playing inferior clubs. Tiger should be a lefty.(!)

Well it took me several rounds to get used to these but I'm glad I kept trying. Actually a friend of mine told that the clubs were too beautiful to sell. Anyway, I've taken the 9 wood out of my bag because the 5 iron is so much more accurate and hits at least as far. I also hit my 4 iron onto a 200 yard par 3. (with the wind behind me) I can't exaggerate how much more fun the game is when you just know you can stick an iron shot from almost anywhere. It relaxes you on the tee, and even my driving has gotten better. I love these clubs.

I've been playing with these clubs for the two weeks and have put several 78's on the board. Setup with these clubs is so natural and the ball comes off the face with such a smooth feeling. The fact that it is a combo set really makes sense. The 3,4,5 are cavity back, 6,7,8 muscle, 9, PW blades. I did pick up a Vokey 56 to go with the set. I would high suggest these clubs to any golfer, no matter if you are a scratch or a hack.
