Model Reviewed: Wilson Deep Red II distance irons

I tried the original Deep Red irons with steel shafts and really liked them. Then during the winter I found a great deal on the Deep Red II with graphite shafts and I couldn't resist. I've been able to play a few rounds with them and I understand there's an adjustment period, but I'm sure I'll like the Deep Red II version even more than the originals. I love the clean, simple look -- more classic in design. And the UST "control weave" graphite shaft is predictably light and smooth but not whippy. The two main attributes of this set are distance (as in long and longer) and forgiveness. The urethane insert in the head and the graphite shafts mean they're almost vibration-proof -- and the sound of a well-struck shot is solid and crisp. Overall, this is a beautiful set of irons at a bargain price. They're very attractive and inspire confidence. These quality irons are a great choice for the mid and handicapper.

Model Reviewed: Wilson Deep Red II (graphite) irons

I found these clubs to be exactly as they were reviewed. Very long and straight. Very easy to hit, very forgiving and very comfortable. I have been playing golf for 12yrs and have not owned a proper set of clubs (irons - 1,4,6,8,PW). I did not want to spend more than AU$1000 on a good set and all the golf stores I saw would have easily pushed me over this budget. When I began researching on the internet for the clubs to suit me, I came across the graphite+fatshaft technology and in parallel tested these clubs (+ many others) in the actual golf stores. After weeks of doing this, I realised these clubs would be the one for me. I am not a long hitter, I'm a smooth easy swinger and these clubs have added 15m to my iron play. The clubs feel great and look fantastic. The soft rubber grips are sensational. The graphite shafts and head inserts make them very comfortable to play with - no vibrations through the club. The black control weave pattern can be seen within the gloss of the shafts near the tip and grip making them the most straking and beautiful shafts I have ever come across. It's also very easy to get the ball in the air although the fatter shaft does give them a slightly higher weight and thus feel compared to regular graphites. The clubs will also make you feel very confident at address. I am now able to choose the right club for the right distance and with the added accuracy, my game is already improving. I commend Wilson for their ability to apply technology to help average golfers like me improve my game and enjoyment of golf. I feel like I've rekindled my interest like when I first started playing it. I bought these clubs (3-SW) for AU$519 over the internet (ebay) and they are the genuine thing. It would have cost me $1100 from the shops I saw stocking them.

I bought these clubs on sale/clearance. I love these irons. I was shocked that I ended up with these irons after all of the clubs I tested. First off they do not look like any other club. I tried every other iron in the market from the TA7, slingshot, and the X-18's. I read every review on this site and hit every iron imaginable. I was surprised when I ended up with these irons. When I want to hit them straight I can hit them straight, when I want to dial-up a draw or fade I can do it. You will BLAST your tee shots and you will BLAST your fairway shots. One of the great things about these irons is hitting out of the rough. Just take one more club and Grip it and Rip it. I can afford any iron in the market and I ended up with these. The shots are so crisp it will leave you up at night thinking about how well you strike the ball. I recently got rid of some blades because I thought my game was better than it truly was. These Irons are as forgiving as you can possibly find. They just look a little different. Believe me that I am happy with shots that are on the green and are relatively close to the pin as apposed to shanks and hooks. These irons give me the most confidence that I have ever had. I know that by the end of the summer I will be in the 70's. I had to buy a Gap wedge because these Irons are LONG. Be a little different and buy these Irons. I give you my word that you will save money when you get these irons and you will make it back on the course. I have played 7 times and I have made my money back based on my handicap. Men/Women they look different but I am telling you that you will be attached to these irons quick and YOU WILL PLAY BETTER! I have that feeling again about golf that you had when you first started to play. I can’t wait to get back out there. FINAL THOUGHT: For those of you that are looking for an iron that you can hit that will go LONG and straight regardless of your skill level these are for you. Don’t get ahead of your-self and think that the fat shaft looks too awkward. Be bigger than that and know this that when you get this iron you will hit the crap out of it and you will hit it straight. That will take care of any misconceptions you have about a fat shaft. I wish that Wilson would have stuck with the fat shaft for the non-tour player. They work and they are so forgiving it's just that they look a little different.

Ladies and Gentlemen. Look no further. If you are looking for distance AND forgiveness, then the Wilson Deep Reds are for you. I use the Distance irons with standard North American specs, but stiff steel flex. Just to give you a rough idea of the distance I'm getting off these irons, I get 145m/160yds off a 7 iron, 175m/190yds off a 4 iron. YES, no kidding! I'm 6'1'', only weigh about 150lbs, so I wouldn't consider myself a long hitter.

I HAVE THE GRAPHITE SHAFT MODEL. THESE IRONS ARE EASY TO SWING-GIVE GREAT DISTANCE ON LESS THAN PERFECT HITS-BUT THE BEST THING IS THEY GIVE YOU A LOT OF CONFIDENCE STANDING OVER THE BALL AND WE ALL KNOW ABOUT THAT! MY HANDICAP HAS RANGED BETWEEN 7 AND 11 OVER THE PAST 15 YEARS, BUT WHEN MY CONFIDENCE WAS GOOD MY HANDICAP WAS LOWER. I HAVE OWNED A TON OF CLUBS OVER THE YEARS LIKE ALOT OF YOU AND THESE IRONS ARE AS GOOD OR BETTER THAN ANY.

This is a great set of irons. I play once a month generally. I've had many different types of irons in the past. I don't have enough time to practice a lot so I've had to make some concessions. I need a set of irons that are forgiving. These irons are that and more. I'm hitting a club and a half longer over my Precept Tour Premium CBs. They are a bit stronger on the lofts. If you are looking for a set that is easy to hit and long, these are a set you should demo for yourself.

Model Reviewed: Wilson Deep Red II Distance irons with graphite shafts

I had played the original Wilson Fat Shafts since their debut up until this year. I bought Mizuno MX 15 irons and played with them for 6 months, I hit them okay but seemed to be about two clubs shorter. I bought the Distance irons with the graphite shafts and got back the 2 clubs and a lot more accuracy. The ball goes high, long, straight, and lands softly. These irons do not feel as clunky as the original Fat Shaft irons and I can tell when I miss the sweet spot just by the feel. With the original Fat Shafts there was no feel as to where you hit the ball on the face. I can work the ball both left and right up to about 15 yards. I can hit keep the ball low with a knockdown shot when needed. With a smooth swing the pitching wedge is good for about 130 yards. I have kept my Mizuno raw wedges in 50 and 56 degrees and find that they fit in perfectly. I would recommend these irons to anyone as they are easy to hit but still give you the ability to work the ball when needed.

Model Reviewed: Deep Red II Tour Irons

First thing first: I've been playing for about 4 years (since I joined the service) and the only brand of clubs I've ever used is Wilson, from a cheap department store starter set to this set, but I have tried almost all others. I was playing the Deep Red Fatshafts, an excellent game improvement club, but found that my scores had plateaued (started at an 18 hcp, ended at a 12 hcp in less than a year) so I got some lessons. I learned how to shape shots, but the offset on the Fatshafts didn't allow for a fade/cut, and the large head made it hard to change trajectory. So, I went shopping for a new set of irons. Tried the TaylorMade Rac's, Mizuno MP30's, Callaway X-16 Pro-Series and Cleveland TA2's. All were good, and almost settled on the Clevelands, but on a whim, tried the club pro's set of Deep Red II Tour's. Love 'em. Maybe it's because I'm partial to Wilson's, but for the price (between $150 and $250 less than the other sets), these clubs outshine the others. For a player who wants to move up to a "professional" set (i.e. blade look, minimal offset, smaller head, thin topline) these clubs fit the bill. Same distance as my "distance" irons, easy to maneuver the ball, beautiful at address (at any angle for that matter) this is my set. I found that I have to stand closer to the ball (smaller head moves the sweet spot), but that has been the only adjustment. Can definitely feel the clubhead during my swing and clean shots (as well as a lot of off center hits) feel great. The smaller head gets the ball out of rough a lot easier than those bulkier oversized clubs. With these clubs, I feel like I have the confidence to hit any irons shot (even my dreaded 3 iron into the wind). I don't know if it's the clubs actual performance or if it's the just the feeling of having the ability to hit a "blade" but golf is a lot funner (and profitable) than ever. I recommend these for any player who is ready to move up to a high end club without paying high end prices. If you want to progress your game and start breakin 80 consistantly, give these a try. Beware the Wilson anti-hype!

If you like to hit the ball long and in the fairway, these clubs are for you! OK, so I have your attention.I bought these clubs because they were cheap, $280 on ebay brand new. The set included a sand wedge which I sold on ebay for $30 so the 3-PW was $250! Golf Digest had a nice little piece on them and they were $500 in the pro shop. I figured what the heck, I needed to replace my mizuno pro II's which were just to hard to hit well every time. This turned out to be a great choice. These clubs a long, very long. I went from 120-125yds with a PW to 140! I'm hitting the 7 iron 170! These clubs feel great, look great and play great. Give em a try, you won't be sorry you did!

Model Reviewed: Deep Red II Tour

This review is for the tour model rather than the distance model. Let me just say that I have played forged irons for the past 20 years (I'm 34 now) and I normally would never have even considered a cast set. But these clubs changed my mind. They are amazingly accurate, and the feel is soft, almost like a forged iron. I say almost because it feels slightly different - and better! I would describe sweet spot strikes on these clubs as soft but crisp at the same time. They are truly a joy to hit. As far as distance is concerned I would say I am getting maybe a half to full club longer than my forged set (mizuno mp-33). I'm not sure why that is as the lofts are the same. The ball flight is high and driving on the Wilson's. The best part of it is that I bought these on Ebay for 275.00 USD brand new still in the box with DG S300 shafts.
