Okay so even though everyone loved them I was still skeptical. But for 200.00 for a brand new set why not give them a try? First round with them 89, second round 78, third round 82. These clubs are almost too good to be true. They have great weight to them and they look really good at address. They are very straight and crazy long. Easily a club and a half longer than my old clubs. One thing about these - they go where your line is. The get the ball up very quick with a lot of carry. You can work the ball with these clubs some as well. I am 6' 185 and hit the 9 iron 155. Yes 155 that's 15 yards longer than my old Hogan's and twice as high. The long irons are very true as well. You don't get the feedback like forged irons, instead you get that light as a feather feeling like you didn't even strike the ball. The fat shafts are pretty cool to look at too. These clubs will definitely get your conifdence back and take your scores down.

I used to play the FS Fat Shaft(the originals). In 2004 I broke the 7 iron shaft and decided maybe I would upgrade to something better. Well I have played Ping ISI's, Callaway x14's, Mizuno MX 15 and 23's over the past 2 years and I have been frustrated as hell.
I pulled my old FS's out of the garage and hit 12 greens my next time out. I saw the Deep Red 2's for cheap on Ebay and bought a set.
If you like Irons that can be hit high and straight, buy these. Also, if you know what you are doing you can work these right or left if needed. I will never stray from the Fat Shafts again. I am actually going to buy a couple of spare sets since Wilson does not make them any more.

These clubs may be the best value for game improvement irons at this time. I picked brand new on Ebay (3-SW) for about $200. They hit the ball long and staight. The mass dampening insert works well. I recommend buying a GW as the distance gap between the PW and SW is too great, a common problem in most modern sets. The only negative may be the quality. The MDS insert in my 9 iron fell out after about 10 rounds.

Customer Service

Customer service has been poor. Wilson takes 2-3 weeks just to acknowledge your email. For a company trying to make a come back this is not acceptable. If it was not for the suspect quality and poor customer service I would have rated this 5 stars.

Just recieved these closeouts and they are awesome. I have been playing Hogan apex irons which are fine and tried some Callaway x's. The Callaways got the ball up in the air and these do also for about on quarter the price. I've been playing for 40 years and hate to go to the oversize game improvement irons but they work. Distance is a little better but the consistancy is fantastic. If you apprecitate the advantage of a 460 driver then you will see the same benefit from these.

I've been playing golf for just over a year and need to move up from the set if Wilson ProStaff AD irons I started out with. I wanted a good set of cavity backed irons that wouldn't cost an arm in a log. After hitting several irons including Calloway's, Titlelist, Mizuno's, TaylorMade's etc. I read the reviews for these irons and decided to give them a try. I consider these a very good looking set of irons that inspire confident in your bag and over the ball. I've been extremely please with the performance. Ball flight is hit and straight. I can hit the 8 iron about 160 yards, the 6 iron about 180 yards and with a good swing the 5 iron about 190 to 200 yards. Bottom line these are very nice set of irons that deliver solid performance at a great price.

Wilson may have made some marketing and manufacturing mistakes that have knocked them out of the market as far as "snob appeal", but these clubs are DEFINITELY high quality. It takes just a short while to get used to how long they hit, but it's quite worth the time, effort and money. I bought the MAXX II driver and fairway woods as well. The type of surfacing scratches easy, and I guess that's my only complaint. These clubs are really beautiful, both aesthetically and in performance.

Since returning to the game a few weeks ago after a 3 year break. I decided to replace my graphite shafted irons (too flexible, susceptible to torque). Having hit some of the original fat shaft irons, I decided to give the newer ones a look. I found the deep red II distance irons on ebay for $189...$202 delivered. Now, on to the clubs. These clubs are definitely long and straight. I find them to be very forgiving for all but the worst swing mistakes. Hitting a clean shot results in an almost surreal sensation as the ball flies away very rapidly. I believe that these irons can help those with mild problems with there swing. I would suggest these irons to anyone who is looking for a set of irons with above average to high quality and excellent playing characteristics

I have played golf for about 13 years, and I now play from a 12 handicap. I've played several sets of irons over the past decade, and I am comfortable saying that higher price does not equal lower scores. Note: I carry Ping G2 irons in my bag, and I love them... wouldn't trade them. However, while working out of state over this current summer, I had the pleasure of playing my brother's Wilson Deep Red II's. Overall: I can honestly say that I am very impressed by these clubs. Even at a 12 handicap, I am not concerned with "working" the ball, as most recreational golfers shouldn't be either. My thought: If you hit it straight to begin with, there are few times you even have to work the ball. With that being said, the Deep Red II's hit straight... very straight. And, they are long... +5 yards compared to my G2's. Granted, the set I used were very close to my specs, being only 1 degree more upright than my Pings. Remember, custom fitting is a must, regardless of the brand and/or price of the club you buy. But, the big difference is the price. I paid $700 for my custom fitted G2's. My brother paid $275 for his custom fitted Deep Red II's... enough said. For the money, these are the best deal out there (now discontinued). Shaft: The 'fat shaft' (referencing the factory stiff shaft) seems to hold to its promise of less torque/twisting, holding a good line from even moderate rough. Although heavier than my Pings, the balance of the club is good. Feel: I will agree that there is little feedback from the club, as the dampening system really does the job; however, one can still interpret where on the club face the ball is being struck. Another thought of mine: I care less to "feel" a bad shot than I do to "see" a straight one. Grips: My brother had custom grips put on; therefore, I can't comment on the factory ones. Look: The visual set up is clean and comfortable. The appearance of the club is quite attractive; however, my brother informs me that they show wear easily (not altering playability of the club). Performance: As previously stated, these clubs are long and straight. I will say that the ball flight is quite high, which made long irons were pleasantly easy to hit. It does causes you to club and grip down on some punch shots. Although it hit straight, I agree with some other posts that the PW is a bit inconsistent. I have Cleveland CG10 wedges, with which I can easily control distance and spin, something that took a great deal more concentration with the Deep Red II wedge. Summary: If you are looking for a cost-efficient, straight-hitting, and aesthetically pleasing club, the Deep Red II's are for you. P.S. ~ I will assume most people that complain about particular clubs are not using clubs customized for their swing or game. Take the time and money and figure out your swing and equipment specs... it will save you a great deal of money (constantly switching and/or blaming the clubs) and frustration (even the most expensive clubs are going to perform horribly if the specs are incorrect).

Well, I decided after a 10 year break to get back into the game. After reading the reviews, I found these irons on close-out to replace my old Stature Confidence irons. I was considering the Taylor Made RAC OS but after the reviews on the Deep Red Distance II's and recommendation at a pro shop in Sydney, found the irons just as accurate as claimed. The irons have a sweet feel. My 7 iron goes straight, 150 yds everytime with an easy swing of the club and the sweet spot on the face is generous. I don't know why Wilson discontinued these irons but all I can say is if you are looking a great iron at close out price, look no farther than the deep reds distance II's.

THese irons are what they say they are. Ive had mine for about two months and have already dropped five strokes. They are long!!!! My 3 iron goes about 200-210 yards easy. Off the tee or off the ground, there are no better irons around.
