Wilson Pi5 Performance Irons

Wilson Pi5 Performance Irons

DESCRIPTION

Each iron in the Pi5 series is designed to move a precise amount of mass to the club's periphery, creating maximum forgiveness during off-center hits. The unique back weighting of the Pi5 design goes from an undercut cavity in the long irons to a standard cavity back in the short irons. This design progressively moves the CG location giving players an arsenal of advantages – from a higher flight with more forgiveness to a lower, more controlled ball flight for maximum shot making capabilities – all with the soft feel of 431 stainless construction.

WHEN I FIRST PULLED THESE OUT OF THE BOX I THOUGHT,"GREAT LOOKING BUT ARE THEY FORGIVING ENOUGH". I WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY WERE AS FORGIVING AS MY TOMMY ARMOUR SILVERBACK CS FORGED CAVITY BACKS. I TOOK THE 3 IRON OUT AND DECIDED IF I HIT IT WELL THAT THE REST OF THE SET WOULD BE FINE.

I AM A 3 HDCP AND FEEL AS THOUGH THESE CLUBS WOULD BE GOOD FOR A 11 OR BETTER. THE UNDERSUCT BACK MAKE THEM VERY FORGIVING. I HAD SEVERAL OF MY FRINDS HIT THEM AND THEY HAVE ALREADY BOUGHT 2 SETS.

THEY ARE VERY ASETHICALLY PLEASING TO THE EYE AND FEEL VERY GOOD. THE VALUE IS INCREDIBLE. AS A MATTER OF FACT THE FACT THAT THEY ARE SO INEXPENSIVE PROBABLY CREATES MORE DOUBT TO MOST GOLFERS. PLUS IT HAS BEEN AWHILE SENN WILSON PUT OUT A GOOD SET OF IRONS AIMED AT TEH LOWER HDCP GOLFERS.

By far the best deal in irons to be had right now. Too many people looking to buy a game and think "shovels" are the answer. Anyone who can get anywhere near the sweetspot will have no problem at all with these clubs. Should a 20+ play these? probably not, but if you are a solid mid cap or better these are just fine.

i relly like thse irons and for the money right now you cant really find a better club cheaper new. i like the compact size with the pretty thin top line. these are so easy to work both ways. i never hit the 4 or 3 much but i carry the 5 about 190. the balance is great. maybe not the most forgiving. great club for someone who wants a traditional iron. also the stock shafts are great with these heads. the undercut in the long irons really helps get the ball up. the short irons produce a boring lower flight. feel great for a cast iron. of course this is from a pretty good ball striker who has a case of the tin cup disease keeping him from putting up low numbers consistant.

feel is awesome you know the good and you know the bad.
good contact is rewarded with excellent distance and a very good feel in the hands
bad contact is punished accordingly and you also feel it in your hands.

iron distance for me:

4i-210
5i-195
6i-185
7i-175
8i-160
9i-150
pw-135

those are when i strike it well. and i usually do. anymore its my putting that gives me my woes... these irons are amazing there is absolutely nothing wrong with these irons the blade like appearance with the thin topline and minimal offset these clubs just impressed me from the start. i dont carry a 3 iron but i do carry a hybrid although im thinking of just picking the 3 back up because i have gotten even more consistent with the long irons since ive purchased these irons. no i was not paid to say these things these irons are amazing enough said. buy these and i promise you will not be dissapointed.

I saw an ex demo set at my local driving range for £190. The only clubs that had been hit were the 6,7 and PW. At the time I was playing Hogan Apex FTX. Given my handicap I was finding them a little demanding.

The Wilsons are easier to hit. They are visually very attractive at address bearing no resemblance to a game improvement iron. Don't get me wrong, I'm no golfing snob but having started playing in the 70s I have never got used to the bulkier head of GI irons, but can understand why they are so popular.

Performance wise the Wilsons are no longer than the Hogans. Ball flight is slightly lower as my Hogans were fitted with DG Lite shafts that are higher launching than DG Golds. That said the short irons do get the ball up very quickly.

As for feel, to me there is not enough difference to matter. These clubs perform very well on short shots around the green. Even though they are cast there is no harshness off the face.

I can work the ball after a fashion, but my skill is the limiting factor here.

Overall a very fine set of clubs in the best Wilson tradition. It's great to see the Wilson Staff brand back again.

The only thing I don't like is the plastic button in the butt end of the grip. I prefer my clubs to be as plain as possible.

After 5 years with Hogan forged irons, I found a good deal on these wilson irons and gave them a try. The difference is noticable right away. My ball striking has improved. The feel is superb and the higher launch and ball flight gives me much more confidence on forced carries. I wish I had changed sooner. I plan to stick with these irons for a long time.

The Wilson Staff Pi5s are long, forgiving, and look amazing. At least 1 club longer than my previous irons, maybe more. In my opinion, these irons are THE best value on the market today. I've noticed that my ball flight is much more penetrating than before, something I've been trying to achieve in my game. Great buy for anyone, although these irons are probably more suited for a mid-low handicap.

I have to agree with the last guy in saying these clubs are awesome! Just purchased them brand new on ebay for $180 and they are a steal. I am by no means a scratch golfer but have a good swing and swing rather fast. These clubs are perfect for me as I can easily work the ball left or right and miss hits dont rattle your body like true blades. When hit flush, they feel just as smooth as any other forged club on the market.
Plus Harrington won the british with these sticks......looks like wilson is back!
