Callaway HX Red Balls

Callaway HX Red Balls

DESCRIPTION

Unlike any other ball on the market, the solid core, three-piece HX features a patented tubular lattice network that results in 100 percent surface area coverage. The design improves low-speed lift and reduced high-speed drag to give you a more penetrating trajectory, greater carry, more roll distance and unsurpassed flight stability.

Well first tee shot I ever took with this ball I killed, and drove a 306 yard par 4. Using ProV1's I came close a few times but never hit it. First time with the HX red, if that tells you anything..

This is an excellent golf ball. I find it does especially well in the wind. Otherwise it plays equally with the Pro V1 and other pro quality balls. I had played the Pro V1 and its improved versions, but find the Callaway a better all around ball because of its advantage in the wind. It's worth a try for any golfer trying to improve his game. I haven't noticed any scuffing problems, but I like to "retire" a ball after about 27 holes and for sure after 36.

true 7.7 index played pro v1 now I lean towards the red it seems to hold it's line better in the wind, spin is similar and is about 10 yds longer off my driver, 5yds or so off irons and just seems to have a better flight, it's just a tad crisper off the club face. I don't change anything quickly but this is the best ball I've played with so far. my swing speed 90-100, normally 260-270 with roll not a shock to hit 280-290 every now and then, I say this because if these specks are close to yours you should try this ball for yourself. It will scuff quicker than pro v, but takes a cart path better sometimes not marking at all,so to wrap it up in one package it flies farther, rolls farther, holds line truer, holds greens the same, putts a little crisper, flies a little higher, the wind doesn't seem to affect it as much, and is a little less durable, I got a good confidence boost from it.

I know that golf balls are a personal choice and although I may not need or want excessive spin, you may. So let me start by explaining me. I am a 5.8 Index, I could not play the Pro V1 or V1*, the Hogan, Maxfli A10, Revolution, or Revolution Solid, the Precept Tour premium and premium LS, or the Nike Tour Accuracy or Tour Accuracy TW, due to the excessive amount of spin they have. I am a relatively short hitter by today's standards (avg 250-260 off the tee). I was looking for a ball that was 1) Long off the tee 2) Had a nice trajectory 3) Would "check up"/ hold fast greens w/ out backing off the planet and 4) A soft feel around the greens. I don't know how Callaway did it, but they seemed to figure out what nobody else could. This ball immediate added 10-15 yds to my tee shots while at the same time maintaining the other characteristics that I was looking for. I love this ball! My only complaint is the obviously poor quality control practices. Although the balls performed consistently, they have visual blemishes right out of the box that would vanquish a Titleist to the X out variety. I have not experienced the cutting problem with the covers and I "pick" the ball from the fairway, even a thinned wedge caused no damage to the ball. Hope my review has helped.

I would like to start out by saying that I am a ligit 3.5 index. that means I enter all my scores not just my good ones.-----Anyway the USGA sets a limmit on how far a ball can go. They use a machine that shoots a ball off a wall and then they measure the re-bound. The differance is only about 6-8 yards in distance between a two piece distance ball and a three piece perrormance ball. So if your are geting all this extra yardage just by switching balls you probaly were playing the wrong ball to start with. I would strongly recommend that you get fit by a PGA professional on a launch monitor, to tell you exactly how much of a distance gain/loss you get from diffrent balls. I found that the HX had a higher ball flight and was mostly carry distance with little roll. Titleist gives me more of a boring ball flight with the pro-v1.They both go about the same distance, with the HX averaging about 2-3 yards longer. I also have had problems with the cover scuffing. Callaway has always had a problem with there covers riping, I think they need to research a new cover compound. All and all not too bad.

It is a very good ball, as long as you accept to throw it away after a few holes when you find out that the cover is peeling off, where you have been hitting it. Then the colour changes from white to a pale yellow, not particularly appealing. I am not an enough good player to find out if the ball performance drops when that happens, but I definitely do not like it. I am not the only one, many of my friends had the same problem, so it is not a one off occurence, but a trend concerning the quality of the cover (and its adherence to the under cover)

I have to disagree with the remarks about this balls durability. I find they are very resistant to shaving. The paint chips off, with an occasional, slight buckling on full wedge shots, but I've yet to to actually rip the cover. Contrast this with the new Hogan balls that seem to rip on every wedge shot. I find the durability to be almost as good as the ProV1. In terms of performance, these are the best balls I've used. The trajectory if more boring, and holds in the air better than any other ball I've played. The closest ball for me is the ProV1*, but the HX is a little longer, and I like the feel better (especially off forged irons). The spin seems between the original ProV and the ProV*, which for me is perfect. I don't have to worry about hitiing 10 feet behind the pin like I do with the ProV. The one downside is the price. They are still asking $44 for them where I live, and as much as I like them, thats a bit steep.

This ball is not only long off the tee, but as accurate in the wind,as in none at all. You barley have to change your position. True it does scuff up easy, but what ball doesn't

I LOVE THIS BALL. I know there are a lot of complaints about the durability, but a lot of that has to do with your equipment as well. Of course your gonna scuff it up with a square grooved, raw Vokey. But then again, that would leave marks on a ball made of marble. As for distance, its better than the ProV and the spin is equal. I agree that the blue does feel a bit soft but the red is just right. Also, the ball flight, off every club in my bag, is phenomenal. I was a Titleist man for years until I saw a Rule35 shoot a 59. I havent seen a ProV do that yet so naturally, I gave Callaway a chance after dogging them for even trying to break into the golf ball market. Now Im eating my words, but my scores are lower and Im staying ahead in the money. Excellent choice for the better golfer.

I have always been a fan of Callaway equipment(X-12 irons), and LOVE the Rule 35 balls. So naturally decided to try the new version of an old favorite. Unfortunately, this cover is so thin that my wedge shots from inside of 120 yds (I play Vokey wedges) chew these poor things up something fierce. The cover is shredded by the turn. The performance is still outstanding, but I can't see buying a new sleeve for every round. The ProV1's and Strata Professionals are a much sturdier alternative!
