STRATA Tour Professional Balls

Combining a softer and faster core with a new soft Zynthane II cover, the Strata Tour Professional is longer off the driver and more shear resistant while maintaining it's already widely reputed spin and "workability."

Okay, heard all about these cheap, soft balls. Picked up some Strata Tour Pro 90's as well as some Precept Ladies and Laddies. Tried them all out one day. Let me first say, I have a very fast swing (averaging about 115) but was willing to sacrifice distance for some feel. Let me tell you that I got what I wanted with the Lady and the Laddie, but not the Strata. I felt the Strata to be dead off the tee and like a wet sponge on the greens. I just didn't feel right driving OR putting. I wanted to find an inexpensive ball to kill any urge I had to invest in Pro V1's on a regular basis. The Strata "9 for the price of 6" sounded like the ball for me (especially after reading some of the reviews). However, when played next to the Lady or the Laddie, the Strata seemed to come up short where it counted. The Lady was more solid off the tee and I am yet to find something that handles as well as the Laddie. For my money, the Laddie is the ball to beat with the Lady good for days when you need some extra distance. I was willing to give up the 10 to 20 yards off the tee for the accuracy and feel of the Precepts, but not for what the Strata seemed to offer. Take this review for what it's worth: An honest opinion from just one guy. Try it out for yourself and you might see what I mean. Good luck and I hope you have more success than I.

Several months ago, I tried hitting with Strata's for the first time (the buy 3 sleeves, get one free package). I forget which model it was, but I hated it. Then, I went to go buy a dozen Maxfli A10's (my favorite, next to PRO V1). I saw these on sale for $20 b/c they were logo overruns. So I bought it and went to play 18 holes only minutes later. The STRATA's I bought the first time were definitely not these. WOW! Was I impressed. These Tour Professional's are in a whole new league compared to what the other model I hit with last time. I'll admit, the distance isn't quite there (especially with the driver), BUT... what it lacked in distance, it made up with it's control and spin. These things checked on the green every single time. Usually I try to lay up below the hole and let the ball bounce about 2 feet past the divot. I was getting extremely frustrated as I was way too short my first three holes. Then I decided to attack the pin. What a difference. These things checked like nobody's business. One bounce and CHECK! I couldn't believe it. After I understood the ball's qualities, I started playing these like the PRO V1's and A10's. I think the PRO V1's have more distance, and the A10's more spin. However, for the money, I think these are a better play, considering the other 2 run as much as $45! I'm glad I tried these, as I am much more appreciative of STRATA. I only wish I tried these earlier. Thus far, the only STRATA ball I really like is this TOUR PROFESSIONAL. I give it an "A".

Great distance and spin. Nice penetrating ball flight. A little firm off the putter. Excellent ball except for durability. Cover shreds on wedge shots. Had to take it out of play after every full wedge shot.

First time I''ve played this ball I don''t often buy balls new so when I found a dozen used I thought I would try them. I''ve had good success with the Wilson Smart Core Spin Distance and the Straight Distance. I didn''t find the Strata to be as long but I did find it straight with a lower flight path. Can''t tell how well it rolls as it had just finished raining and was wet. However, I did stick the green a few times which I am not accustomed to doing. I really liked the feel I can''t explain it well but it is soft yet confident, not firm to hard like the W Straight Distance. I am not a big hitter so I would like to see a little more distance from a ball. I will try this ball again because I didn''t lose any through 18, again a rare occurance, and I still have 11 remaining.

it is worth note that i am revewing THE NEW STRATA 2002 ball range. the first section of this test will be by fugures going first distance then feel, spin, trajectory(high being 10),durrability and chip shot feel. STRATA TOUR PROFESSIONAL 2002 9 9 9.5 6 8 9.5 STRATA PROFESSIONAL DISTANCE 2002 10 8 6 10 10 8 STRATA TOUR ULTIMATE 2002 9 10 10 9 6 10 STRATA TOUR ULTIMATE 2 2002 9.5 9 9 10 8 9.5 STRATA PROFESSIONAL CONTROL 2002 9.5 8.5 8.5 10 10 9 THE STRATA DISTANCE IS THE LONGEST BALL WITH THE TOUR ULTIMATE 2 AND PRO CONTROL SLIGHTLEY BEHIND. THE TOUR PRO AND THE TU ARE LONG BUT TEND TO SPIN TOO MUCH WITH THE DRIVER RESULTING IN VERY LITTLE ROLL.THE FEEL OF THE TOUR ULTIMATE IS BRILLIANT BUT THE TOUR PRO TIPS THIS SLIGHTLEY.IT IS WORTH NOTE THAT THE PRO CONTROL BALL IS ALMOST PERFECT IN ALL DEPARTMENTS AND WOULD BE USABLE FOR TOP PROS IF IT POSESED HIGHER SPIN.THE BEST BALL IS A TOUGH ONE.THE BEST BALL OVER ALL FOR THE AVERAGE PLAYER IS THE STRATA DISTANCE WHICH IS A GREAT BALL FOR THE SLIGHLEY BETTER THAN AVERAGE PLAYER(15-10 HANDICAP) I RECMEND THE PRO CONTROL WHICH IS A GREAT BALL ASWELL.THE TOUR ULTIMATE 2 PROVIDES THE SAME SPIN AS THE TOUR PRO BUT TENDS TO TAKE A SOFTER BOUNCE DUE TO ITS HIGHER TRAJECTORY.OVER ALL THE EST BALL FOR ME IS THE TOUR ULTIMATE 2 CLOSLEY FOLLOWED BY THE TOUR PRO.THE TOUR ULTIMATE GETS TOO MUCH SPIN BUT WOULD BE GREAT IF THE GREEN WERE HARDER.OVER ALL THESE ARE PROB THE BEST BALLS AVAILABLE EVER

First tried this ball after finding one on the course. Then I used them for most of last season. Really a great ball. Soft, great around the greens and putts true. Acceptable distance with low spin off the driver. First thing I noticed was wedge accuracy. This ball will stop on a dime, often within a few feet of my ball mark. Great for chipping, pitching and putting. Predictable with a soft landing. I think this ball spins less off long irons and driver than the Pro V1 but has all the great soft qualities and it is cheaper. If you are using a distance ball because you need the distance, OK but if you have acceptable driver distance try this ball.
